Water loss(?), air leak, and pump SHHH sound

That’s what I’m afraid of :/. I did replace the valve last year. I think it’s odd though that replacing the diffuser o-ring and main pump o-ring seemed to improve it a lot, so I’m wondering (especially now with the hissing sound coming from the motor this week) whether it’s still all related to...

Water loss(?), air leak, and pump SHHH sound

Then I apologize. I read that differently than you meant it. But yes, the plumbing is.. well, a mess to put it mildly. I had to dig it out to follow it around and that’s why I labeled the pic because I couldn’t even keep it straight and I knew where it all went.

Water loss(?), air leak, and pump SHHH sound

First off, thank you for the helpful response. I have a dedicated side suction for the vacuum so it doesn’t have to come out the skimmer, but I did have a hose connection that was leaking but replaced it and it seems fine now as far as I can tell, but I do find it weird that it only seems to be...

Water loss(?), air leak, and pump SHHH sound

Thanks for the help, and the compassion. I’m a single woman trying to do all this by myself, but at least I’m trying. I don’t know what parts might matter and which ones don’t, so I felt like it would be best to summarize it all.

Water loss(?), air leak, and pump SHHH sound

Hey guys. I’ve been chasing around a few issues all summer and hoping someone can help me out. When I first opened the pool this spring I noticed I was losing some water, but dealing around the entrance to the skimmer seemed to fix that (at least to where I didn’t notice it anymore). I’ve also...

Zodiac MX8 Elite vs The Pool Cleaner vs Pentair Rebel...?

It’s my local store, Backyard Water. I think they only have this one location but I’m not sure. It was a store holiday sale combined with the $125 zodiac rebate, so it was more than that up front but ends up at that price after you get the rebate back. I did end up getting the mx8 elite and so...

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

Hey, sorry for the delay. I was thinking iron too since it looked brown. I haven’t noticed the stains coming back this year yet like I did last year, so as long as they’re gone I’m happy lol. I did write the MM people from the link on their website last weekend. I didn’t hear from anyone but it...

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

Yes, if I disturbed the waterline you could see the transition from white fiberglass to the stained part below the water that had a brown tint

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

Just to have a reference of it here, this is with the pool stained vs after adding the metal magic. The stains aren’t patchy, it’s just a uniform stain over the whole surface and makes the water look green when it’s not. So whatever it was coming from it seemed to be a significant enough amount...

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

That makes sense. I was hoping to avoid the dreaded drain and refill, but I know I’ll also hit a point of being tired enough of dealing with the current situation that it will start to seem like less of a chore lol. Do you have any idea why it seems to hit a turning point so quickly? Where I can...

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

Yes that kind of confused me too. It says that’s the tap water analysis, so I’m guessing they took it from maybe the town office or somewhere similar, and the main analysis from the water tower, but I’d need to call and ask to be sure. I live in a town of only about 500 people in a really small...

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

It is municipal water. I just pulled the last report from our town website and these are the results. Not sure any of them are high enough to cause the stains. In that case it might have been copper, or maybe some other metal from the heater? I’ve since removed that from the line, so if that’s...

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

I suspect they were either iron or copper, but I didn’t test them specifically except for knowing that a vitamin C tablet removed them. Im starting to have some spotty stains of a different kind that the MM didn’t address, and just ordered a Jacks stain ID kit, but the original one was a uniform...

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

There is usually quite a bit of white stuff after I’ve dosed the pool, but it usually seems to lessen after the initial dose and cloudiness in the water has subsided. The MM does turn the water cloudy and (supposedly) this is the sequestered metal filtering out, but like you I’m also not sure...

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

No problem, and thank you for trying to help! I’m thinking it has to have something to do with the MM because it’s happened about partway through the summer both seasons that I’ve been using it, but I never had it happen until I started combatting the stains. So it’s the only thing that would...

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

It’s regular liquid chlorine in refillable jugs from the pool store. I’d have to check the percent but it’s the run of the mill yellow jug liquid chlorine

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

I’m using liquid chlorine and haven’t added anything else except the MM and standard chemicals to keep the required things like TA/CH/etc in range.

    Adding chlorine makes water cloudy

This has started happening again just now this season, and it also happened last summer about partway through the season. One day everything is normal, and then the next time I add chlorine, I can see it forming a visible white cloud as it moves trough the water. It doesn’t dissipate quickly...

    Air leak driving me crazy

Well it seems that I still have a problem ?. I had chased down and fixed enough things that I had gotten to the point of only having a handful of small bubbles swirling around in the pump basket (this is with a vented flap over the side/vacuum suction port. If I removed that, all bubbles went...

Zodiac MX8 Elite vs The Pool Cleaner vs Pentair Rebel...?

I’ve read also that the only difference in the mx8 and the elite are the scrubbers. At first I thought that might be a good thing, but I have a decent amount of sand and I’m not sure if it would just stir up a cloud before it could actually suck it up? I’ve watched a ton of review videos on...

Zodiac MX8 Elite vs The Pool Cleaner vs Pentair Rebel...?

My pool store was running a special for $350 on the mx8 elite this weekend and had I thought about it in time, I would have ordered the regular mx8 from amazon (which I could return) and tried it out. If it didn’t work I return it, if it did work I still return it, and buy the one from the pool...

Zodiac MX8 Elite vs The Pool Cleaner vs Pentair Rebel...?

I agree that for my situation a robot is probably the best choice, but the price tag is a little out of my range unfortunately. I’ve also read quite a bit about the robots needing expensive repairs also, but then some people have them for years without any issues at all. I think that’s what’s so...

Zodiac MX8 Elite vs The Pool Cleaner vs Pentair Rebel...?

I started this thread searching for general recommendations, but changed the title to be more specific because I've done a ton of research and thought I had landed on the MX8 Elite and The Pool Cleaner as my top choices. Then today I also came across some reviews for the Pentair Rebel that...

Ascorbic Acid Treatment for Metal Stains in Vinyl Pool

I can’t really answer your questions about the AA treatment process, but I also had iron stains on my fiberglass pool. It was enough that there was a fairly decent brown tint to everything under the water level. I tried AA once, but I live in Florida and dropping the chlorine for long enough to...

Zodiac MX8 Elite vs The Pool Cleaner vs Pentair Rebel...?

Thanks for the tip. I do plan to have the tree trimmed, but it’s protected by the arbor association in my town because it’s so old so I can only trim so much. But any little bit would help. I figured I was asking a lot for a cleaner that could do all those things. If it’s strong enough with a...

Zodiac MX8 Elite vs The Pool Cleaner vs Pentair Rebel...?

I’m coming to the point where I’m ready to get my first automatic pool cleaner and need some advice on what will work best for my setup. I’ve done a lot of research here on the forum and YouTube reviews of various cleaners. Everyone seems to love the plugin robot cleaners, but I’m still leaning...

    Air leak driving me crazy

The psi when the filter is freshly cleaned sits at about 16. Before I replaced the diffuser and pump housing o-rings inside the pump, the water in the filter basket was splashing and frothing around. After replacing those it is now just a handful of tiny bubbles, but swirling around as if it’s...
