    Solar Panel Heaters

Primarily because it wasn't right for my situation: Limited funds, relatively temporary installation, lack of real need for real heat here, first time pool person, etc. Maybe someday in our next location...

    Solar Panel Heaters

Of course, it dropped down to about 55° here last night so I lost most of my gains from yesterday since I have an above ground pool...

    Solar Panel Heaters

Yes, the 1/2" poly is definitely a restriction. The pump is designed to handle 1-1/4" out and can in theory push that 22gpm up 15' in the air based on the chart in the manual. However, in my case it was less about achieving maximum efficiency (and the study to understand what it is) and more...

    Solar Panel Heaters

Apologies if it wasn't clear in my initial post. The 200' of 1/2" poly is the run from my pump in the pool up to the SmartPool SunHeater "solar panels" on the roof. It is comprised of two panels, each about 2' wide by 20' long. Each panel sends the water through dozens (not going up to count...

    Solar Panel Heaters

To add some additional unscientific details as measured with my polar bear pool thermometer: As mentioned, water temp is 74° right now I put the pump in and have let the water run through the heater for 20 mins now. It is currently 73° here in Austin and I would say it is about 95% sunny. There...

    Solar Panel Heaters

I bought the Smartpool S601P SunHeater Solar Heating System for In Ground Pool for ours and attached it to the Superior Pump 91330 1/3 HP Thermoplastic Submersible Utility Pump with 10-Foot Cord. Then I used 200' or so of 1/2 in. (0.700 O.D.) x 100 ft. Poly Drip Tubing. The panels are fastened...

    Intex robot wheels "locking"

I still haven't tried replacing the washer under the bearing as gtty recommended. I looked at Home Depot but they didn't have anything that matched the specs. Not do I have any way of making my own custom washer. So after watching Stubby struggle for a week and constantly get hung up due to...

    Intex robot wheels "locking"

Interesting approach. I will have to take a look. My robot worked great for the first couple months but has started to have significant issues. My wheels are also worn but I can't figure out how that should have any impact. I've followed some other the other fixes (cleaning out the pump fixture...

Vacuum for Intex Above Ground Pool

Another vote for the Intex Auto Pool Cleaner. The pecans on our pecan tree are getting bigger and the squirrels are making a mess of things. When I first looked in the pool this morning, I saw the bottom had lots of half eaten pecans all over. I had no expectations that the vacuum would actually...

    Slight Haze?

Oooh. I missed the Canadian part and didn't realize it was that much. I was thinking in terms of US dollars. So I change my recommendation as well.

Cloudy and want to drain 1/2

As many people will tell you, stop spending your money at the pool store and purchase your own test kit (TF 100) and then a few primary chemicals and you will be good to go in no time.

    Whitish/yellowish slime, just a tad

Did you scoop it out? Or did you use the net material to rub the slime off the wall?
  13. mattsmith321

    Slight Haze?

I can definitely appreciate the budget constraints but would suggest you to try to make the stretch to get a good test kit. It will save you money on additional unnecessary chemicals and save you a lot of time (and frustration) in stabilizing your pool and get you back to where you can enjoy it...

    Bubbles and Vacuum issues

Can you post a pic or video of the bubbles and your pump? I have lots of tiny bubbles in my return because I have a salt water generator (SWG) and it purposefully creates lots of tiny bubbles as it passes over the plates and is converted to chlorine. Some additional info would help trouble shoot.

Using extension cord for this year?

I'm connected to GFCI at the outlet on the house. From there I run the cord up into this bin to plug it into the pump. Inside the bin, the cords are in a separate plastic container which sits on top of several things which keeps the plugs off the floor of the bin in case water were to somehow...

    disenchanted at this point

To clarify jeffchap's response, I kept my vacuum adapter plate hooked to my vacuum hose. Then when I was ready to use, I would hook the pole to the vacuum head, slowly lower the head and hose under water and feed the rest of the hose straight down to get rid of all of the air in hose. Then I...

    disenchanted at this point

Great idea. I highly recommend it. I've been much happier since I ditched my Intex floating skimmer Regular one is fine. I have a 12'x24' and my pool is plenty clean. I am still using my original Intex return. The Hayward did come with a return fitting but I didn't replace it and I'm glad I...

    Milky Water syndrome(need help)

Not sure if it is exactly the same issue but I had a similar issue this spring as I was recovering from some growth and milkiness in the water. After several days the water looked crystal clear but I noticed that as I vacuumed that the water in the skimmer turned cloudy as I pushed the vacuum...

PVC Tray Holder For Intex Metal Frame Pool (I Should Patent This!)

Thanks for the great idea. I didn't have a tray handy that I could use so I did some research and found a 9" x 26" fiberglass tray from a local restaurant supply store. My shopping list: Restaurant supply store: (1) 9" x 26" Carlisle Pearl White Fiberglass Market Tray (269FMT301) = $14.65...

Help! Terribly Cloudy and won’t clear up

Again, I highly recommend the Hayward skimmer modification. Check the sticky thread in this forum for links to posts that walk you through the process. You will need: Hayward SP1091LX Dyna-Skim Above-Ground Pool Skimmer (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DPY196) GAME 4560 40mm to 1 1/2 Inch...

Help! Terribly Cloudy and won’t clear up

Sounds good. Just keep running the pump and cleaning your filter. When you are vacuuming, you may want to keep an eye on the water as it runs into the pump (the tank right before the pump with the clear lid). Even when my water looked perfectly clean and I could see the bottom just fine, my CC...

Using extension cord for this year?

+1 as another person that is running a 100ft heavy duty extension cord to run my pump. I have a large 40 gallon plastic tub that I run the cord into and then plug the pump into the cord in there. Not saying you should follow my example but people are doing it. I did make sure that I had an...

Help! Terribly Cloudy and won’t clear up

Welcome to the forum! You are where I was last year. And look at the thread I just posted the other day: https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/163649-Trouble-free-at-last!-Thanks! Based on my experience last year, I highly recommend the advice to stay away from the pool store as they are...

    Ways to lower water temperature?

I have this installed on my roof to heat the pool up: Smartpool S601P SunHeater Solar Heating System for In Ground Pool : Swimming Pool Heaters : Garden & Outdoor (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VU98AS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I'm tempted to see if I can run it at...

    Trouble free at last! Thanks!

TFP has definitely helped. I just donated. I did use the Pool Math app for a little bit and even subscribed to it to get history. However I'm a spreadsheet guy and like the control. The app did serve as inspiration for the maintenance columns on my spreadsheet. ;) - - - Updated - - - Yes...

New member, new pool, small AGP, just want to have everything in order.

I just posted a Thanks! thread a few minutes ago because I finally got everything figured out. For testing, I would recommend adding: - Speedstir - pH pen - Borate test strips For chemicals, I have used the following: - Conditioner / CYA (pool store) - Bleach (because adding CYA means you need...

    Trouble free at last! Thanks!

I just wanted to post a note to say thanks to everyone on this forum for making it such a great resource. Installation Plan....what am I missing?

From my experience last summer: I regret using the included tarp on top of the foam boards I put in. The included tarp is next to useless and anywhere it got a decent amount of sun, it has already deteriorated since June last year. I ripped up most of what is left but it looks ugly. See for...
