Where do you buy your good quality expanding rubber winterizing plugs from?

Mine from amazon have had the size marked. Theres a lot of different sellers for buying anything on amazon. Some good some not so much. Its always a bit of a gamble but its just a plug

Where do you buy your good quality expanding rubber winterizing plugs from?

Ive done ok with what I’ve found on amazon. The sizing can be off so buy a few and see what works. They’re cheap enough to just buy a selection. I am guessing one listing measures at the wide part of the taper and the next looks at the narrow. Make sure the hardware is stainless. The...

    Resin cleanup???

We’ve got a mess. We had some resin/hardener left over from a project spill over the basement floor. To be more precise, it didn’t actually spill but started to leech through the plastic jug it was in. I don’t care much about the stain but its pretty sticky still. So far Ive tried mineral...

    leak from salt cell union

Theres no big secret to it. Just measure carefully, glue and get the pipe seated in the coupling. If you haven’t done it before, practice on some scrap and waste a few couplings to get the feel of it. Don’t forget to put the union nuts on before you glue. I know thats been done more than...

No cats but there is a dog. Same toxicity concern? Its the rv/pool antifreeze. Thought that was non- toxic

    Antifreeze mess

The next couple days are warm. I wasn’t sure a spray down was a great idea as theres some electrical under there. I am sure its got some amount of water resistance but being in the line of a full flush might be a bad idea. Will spreading some kitty liter to absorb work? I assume leaving it...

    Antifreeze mess

Just helped a friend who was in a jam close and winterize their fiberglass hot tub. All went well enough until the end when I failed to reconnect a union before pouring in a bunch of antifreeze. I shop-vacced up the mess best I could and it didn’t get on equipment, just went into the grooves...

Robot for small pool - 2k gallon pool?

That pool is awful cute. I don’t have any robot recommendations but just had to say I love the pond conversion. A good google search comes up with some mini robot cleaners. Anything meant for a larger pool (which is most of the bots this site has experience with) isn't going to have room to...

Using a Harbor Freight sump pump for circulation in the winter?

Yep. Standard close for us northerns is to tarp it up, blow out the pipes and let it sit till the spring. As long as you open early enough, the spring cleanup isn’t so bad. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/closing-an-in-ground-pool/

Using a Harbor Freight sump pump for circulation in the winter?

Why not just close it down and cover it up. No reason to run the pump all winter. If there is a reason…a sump pump will probably work. Not sure they’re meant for continuous submersion though.

Pool repair guy won't install or warranty parts I buy myself

Many services will not line item quotes into parts vs labor costs and this is probably why. They are looking to get their price on the combined package. Yes you can decline the package but its usually not an option to pick the line items you want and expect the pricing to hold.

Pool repair guy won't install or warranty parts I buy myself

I love to complain about how much labor costs until I put it against how much I charge for my own skilled labor. People’s time is their money and it only takes a few hours before the bill starts getting big.

    Skimmer cracking

Yeah that was my take as well. Seems like none of the pros do it right, or at least very few. Ill never use those guys again for this reason and a million others. Good luck to me finding someone who does better. Looks like you were having the same ‘which epoxy’ debate as well. I’ll probably...

    Skimmer cracking

My skimmer (in-ground) is cracking up! This was put in around 6 years ago as replacement for the original skimmer (pool is an 80’s build). I was going to epoxy the cracks this morning (jb waterweld) and realized how bad the situation was as I was cleaning it. I don’t think its really causing...

how important is it to vacuum the bottom of the pool before closing?

I don’t worry about having pristine water at close. I clean it up before putting the cover on but don’t worry about every last leaf. Plenty of crud slips under the cover over the course of the winter, so a few extra leaves at the start doesn’t do much extra damage. Open early enough before...

Shopping for new SWCG and looking for advice

Is it the swg thats the problem or that you’re trying to limit it to 12 hour runs? If the cell is in good shape the better investment might be in upgrading to the vsp and then the swg will be able to keep up. Are you sure the water is algae free and thats not the problem? The electrical...

    Replacing Taylor K-2006?

You run the same tests for saltwater as other methods of chlorination. In addition you’ll want to test your salt levels. The taylor salt test is called the k-1766. Components for the salt test are included in test kits specifying “salt” but it is available for separate purchase as well.

    Wiring SWG Help

Chlorine production and vsp on low speed costs very little to run 24/7. It just makes things simpler to run it all the time. The issue of minimizing runtime because electricity is expensive becomes a non issue. I bet youll find its not enough runtime. For reference, ive got the hayward t-15...

    Wiring SWG Help

Also - many of us run vsp’s and swg’s 24/7. Depending on your swg capacity and pool size you may find you need more than 10 hrs of swg runtime for it to produce enough during the peak of summer. I have my swg on a timer, but ive never flipped the switch to off. I find it very easy to adjust...

    Wiring SWG Help

Do it like ajw said. This is an easy diy electrical job. Its no harder than replacing a light switch or outlet. If you want to learn to become handy, this is a great project to start on. If you’ve never done anything electrical, theres lots of material available about how to safely make...
