MAYDAY - TA Going through the roof!

Let this be a lesson to anyone else out there who may, like me, have a dead short between the ears --- The experts here at TFP are called experts for a darn good reason - they know what they are talking about! Who would have thought that using a dry cloth to wipe the dropper tip instead of a...

MAYDAY - TA Going through the roof!

Wow - talk about fast replies! Let's see: I've been wiping the bottle tip but now that you mention it the cloth isn't wet! I know better and will try again now doing the test properly! I have been topping off the water level, not a lot, but some. I haven't tested our well water, but probably...

MAYDAY - TA Going through the roof!

This is my 3rd year of BBB, having been previously trapped in the pool store Chlorine Puck Prison. My 18K Gallon plaster pool was opened ten days ago. No major findings, mostly clear water and the usual (porous cover) debris on the bottom. Cleaned up and shocked (with 6%) nicely. I did...

good source for liquid chlorine in northern nj??

I can't speak for Pelican but we have them plus a Sahara Pool in Hunterdon County. Sahara has 2.5 or 5.0 gal carboys but ... BUT... it is stored outside in the sun in their driveway! I have been using Wally World GV for several years and it works great for me. I have a possible lead on free...

The pressure relief valve on my DE filter is leaking

Follow-up: The pressure relief valve on my DE filter is leak The replacement air valve arrived this week. Yesterday I changed the old, somewhat leaking, automatic air relief valve to the new manual air relief valve. I had to use the old O-ring; for some reason the one provided with the...

Thanks to all for the kind comments. It was an unbelievable amount of hard work for an old man with no prior experience, but I think it was worth the effort.

The pressure relief valve on my DE filter is leaking

Re: Holy O-Ring, Batman - Hayward DE filter O-Rings Thanks for the fast response. That is the alleged 'automatic' air relief valve, DEX2420AR. I'll order a new manual air relief valve and be done with it. It appears I should also order a spare main o-ring or two. Are they still available or am...

The pressure relief valve on my DE filter is leaking

The pressure relief valve on my DE filter is leaking. It appears to leak between the 'hockey puck' top and the main body of the valve. I tried to outline the area where the water appears. (Yes, I know the manual pressure relief screw-in thingy is leaking in this picture; I didn't tighten it...

1st Test: Confused but not Panicked

Great info - thanks. My inclination is to go with the slow alternative. I ordered a pool fountain last week so tis will give me an excellent excuse to use it. I love justifying my toys! It occurs to me that I should also test my well water I use to top off to see what the TA is there.

1st Test: Confused but not Panicked

You gotta' love it when the super-gurus jump right in to assist a green as grass newbie! I will redo the TA test and monitor the rest daily for now. It also gives me a chance to play with the new test kit! As always, the great advice from the giants of TFP is much appreciated.

1st Test: Confused but not Panicked

Thanks to the guidance offered here on TFP I ordered the TF-100 kit for my newly refinished and refilled pool. It was filled on Friday with 15,000 gallons of water from a truck and topped off with 2,000 gallons from my well (water softener on). On Friday I added 1.4 gallons of WalMart bleach...

??? - Anthony Gunnite Pool Steps

Mod - please move this post if it is the wrong area. I would like to add a handrail to the steps in the shallow end of my Anthony Gunnite pool. We have a family member that could use the pool with the added balance it would bring. The steps are the typical three-level semi-circular steps found...

ColorSplash 2G vs. 3G vs. everything else

I'd appreciate your opinion and experiences with the ColorSplash LED pool light replacements. Has your overall experience been positive? Any issues with the product? Is there a significant difference between the 2G and 3G? How do they stack up vs. other LED replacements? Thanx!

    NOOB - First Post Question

Day two: 1.4 gallons bleach added last night, another 1.4 gallons this evening (sun off of the pool). I will add one gallon each tomorrow and Monday evening. Two pounds of CYA started this afternoon. Just started the second two pounds. Whoever came up with the idea of dispersing solids by...

    NOOB - First Post Question

But how do I know what I have for CYA without the kit? Can you give me a 'best guess' how much to add? 17,000 gallons, non-chlorinated brand new water out of the truck.

    NOOB - First Post Question

You guys are the best - thanks Dave! I'm headed to WallyWorld now to get some Clorox. Of course, I can't measure the CYA yet so probably shouldn't just guess. Hopefully the USPS won't delay my kit from you too long because of the holiday weekend.

    NOOB - First Post Question

Thanks for the unbelievably fast reply! Yep - I started to read Pool School and will continue to read more today. I have the calculator bookmarked; looks like a super-handy tool. If I understand, I can hold off for a few days (I hope the kit arrives Tuesday) before doing anything, Then get...

    NOOB - First Post Question

You folks probably get tired of answering the dumb questions first time users ask. I'll ask anyway and hope for an answer! I have an inground plaster pool, 17,000 gallons. It's not new as I've had it for twenty years but am starting over again. It was a black Gunnite job to begin and was...
