Flow From One Return Not Steady

We have a 36x18 vinyl liner inground that has two AquaGenies (skimmer/return in one) on one of the long sides and a normal 1.5” return on the other. We installed it four years ago. Last year, the normal return seemed to have a drop in the flow rate coming from it. With the other two returns...

Pool Failure Debacle. Any Thoughts Before I Rip Everything Out and Start Over?

I bought a 16x32' vinyl-over-steel wall kit from Pool Warehouse three years ago now. It included a motorized cover from Automatic Pool Covers. Installed it all myself. Mistakes were made: specifically, I missed that the concrete walkway we had poured around it should have sat on TOP of the metal...

    "No Diving" Stickers - Required?

That's my thinking as well. I GC'd the build of our house, so I know the inspector well. He's a good guy, but definitely of the "no such thing as too safe" school (nothing wrong with that, he has to cover his Rear AND the town's, so I get it). So I'd rather not open the can of worms unless necessary.

    "No Diving" Stickers - Required?

He hasn't mentioned them in any of his visits. I know I could simply ask him, but I'm slightly concerned I get a "Well, they're not required but they're a good idea" response.

    "No Diving" Stickers - Required?

We have a "sport bottom" inground that is 3.5' at each end and 6' in the middle that we installed this year. I need to get final signoff from the building inspector, but can't find anything in the ISPSC that requires stickers. The pool manufacturer sent some, just not sure if I have to use them...

Any Way to Successfully Patch/Cover PVC Coupler Leak?

I used 2" flex PVC for both the returns/suction side of the AquaGenie skimmers I used in my own pool. On the return side, I had a leak and ended up needing to cut out a short run of 2" rigid PVC pipe that went directly into the coupler collar on the bottom of the AquaGenie. So I spent two hours...

Two AquaGenies - Turn Off One to Vacuum?

We just opened our 16x36' inground built from a PW kit yesterday. It has two AquaGenies on one wall (so a return/intake in each) with an additional return on the other wall. Each return and intake has a ball-valve shut off. If I'm vacuuming, should I shut off the intake from one of the AquaGenies?

Liner Installation Over Hydra Steel Step

Looks like I may have over-tightened some bolts holding the steps together; the gap between the riser and tread wasn't consistent and was too tight in some spots. Ended up using some electrical wire pull lube and was able to work them in.

Liner Installation Over Hydra Steel Step

Struggling a bit to get the rubber bead on the back of the liner to fit into the receiver channels on the Hydra steel steps. I have to press so hard, the plastic install tools they sent are cutting into the rubber bead. Is there some sort of lubricant like dish soap or something I could use, or...

Liners: Designed to Stretch a Bit?

We have an inground vinyl over steel wall kit from PW and are attempting the liner install today. Rolled it all out, and noticed that the spacing between seams is a bit off. For example, it's a "sport court" bottom, so shallow at each and, and deep in the middle. The hopper should be 24" wide...

Durability of Sand/Cement Pool Floor Mix

I have a liner-over-steel wall kit I bought from PW. They recommend a mix of ten parts sand and one part cement for the pool floor. I understand you can't have rain while it's setting up, but once it's cured, can it get rained on? I guess what I'm asking is how solid will this be.

How to Get These Walls Plumb

For whatever reason, clear gravel is tougher to find around me. So I used 3/4" gravel mixed with sand.

How to Get These Walls Plumb

I haven't re-run a string, but for example on the wall in the picture I attached, a 4' level shows the top is about 1.25" out of plumb from the bottom. It was perfectly plumb before backfilling. There is a brace at every wall joint, with the stakes driven into the ground on the back of the...

How to Get These Walls Plumb

I bought a DIY rectangular inground pool kit from Pool Warehouse. Dig a hole, bolt together some steel walls in the hole, and drop a liner over the whole thing. There are braces every ~8' or so along the outside with turnbuckles to make the walls plumb. A concrete collar was then poured ~8" deep...

Bonding Concrete Collar Around Steel Wall In-Ground Pool

I am installing a 16'x36' steel wall inground pool kit from PW. The walls include holes in the bottom flange to hammer rebar through. They recommend one piece of rebar per panel. I need to pour a ~8" thick concrete collar around the base of the outside pool walls. I know the concrete must be...

Bit of Groundwater Seepage - Issue?

Installing a vinyl over steel panel inground sport-bottom kit from Pool Warehouse. Excavated the other day, and at one end it's pretty muddy and there's a bit of water. There's a "T" where two supply lines for my irrigation system run off in opposite directions from the main feed neat this end...

Where did you get your kit from? I am also planning a DIY inground (simple rectangle). Thinking about using Pool Warehouse and was wondering if you had experience with them.

Inground Pool Construction Plans - Example?

Hi all, We are looking to install an inground pool from a DIY kit later this year. I went to my town's website, and for the permit they require both a land plot showing the pool location (which I have), and what they call "construction plans". Does anyone that has built recently have an example...

    Pump "Throbbing"

I've got a brand new Hayward XStream150 cartridge filter/pump for my 10k gallon AGP. This combo is fairly oversized for a pool this size, but its nice in that I only run it ten hours a day and get plenty of filtering. Plus, I got a good deal on it. The only issue is that it is LOUD. A simple...

    Filter/Pump Wiring Question

I actually have both a GFI breaker and a GFIC receptacle. I suspected that tapping off the GFIC receptacle for the downstream run to my pump was probably adequate, but also installed a 20A GFI breaker on that circuit just to be on the safe side. And its all 12G wiring, from breaker to receptacle...

    Filter/Pump Wiring Question

Ah, understood. I noticed my GFI outlet has provisions for both. Don't think I've ever actually seen a 20A plug. What are those used for? 110V clothes dryers (if there is such a thing)?

    Filter/Pump Wiring Question

Ohm-Boy, Thanks again for your help. One question on this: the 20A GFI breaker I bought seemed to snap right in where the 15A breaker was. As mentioned in the update post, I ended up putting the 20A GFI breaker in a new location at the panel and putting the original 15A breaker back where it...

    Filter/Pump Wiring Question

So after more investigation, it turns out the wire back to the panel on the circuit was NOT 12G all the way. I ended up adding a new, dedicated circuit, with its own 20A GFI breaker, and a new run of 12/2 Romex inside the house, connected to the existing GFI outlet on the side of my house, then...

    AGP Liner Install

I seem to be having a bit of trouble getting my liner installed on a 15x26' 54" depth oval AGP. It is very tight in a few spots against the wall. Really, I mean its tight so much so that its tough to feel the wall as the liner is pulling away from it. All of my seams are pretty straight and...

    Filter/Pump Wiring Question

Ohm_Boy, Thanks for mentioning that; I actually replaced the existing outlet with a GFI outlet (house was built in '87, assume before GFI required for all outdoor outlets?) in preparation for this and noted that it was 12/2 that was run there. 15A breaker though, which is strange. Haven't looked...

    Filter/Pump Wiring Question

I should have mentioned, I also have an outdoor-rated timer (hardwired type, not a plug in type, see link) that will be installed inline, located next to the existing outlet. It offers a simple on/off switch, in addition to the on/off switch on my pump itself (Hayward Matrix for a XStream...
