    Pool eats CYA

I bought the standard from the TF100 people. It allows you to see what 50 is suppose to look like. Edit: Sorry, I see someone answered this already.

    Pool eats CYA

Well, I have watched my CYA once again disappear to <20, down from 40-50 less than a three weeks ago on my solar blanket covered pool. I was gone for 5 days so didn't test for 5 days, but left the pool with high FC and the SWG set at 80% and the pool covered. We had about 1/2" of rain with...

    Pool eats CYA

Mstgkillr, we luckily missed your big rains across the bay over here in Rotonda West. You got nicked with a lot of rain even before Houston! We don't have autofill and our drain out elbow is already located higher than the top of the skimmer. Good luck to you on figuring it all out!

    Pool eats CYA

Pool heater was turned on mid Oct. It is set to 84 degrees.

    Pool eats CYA

Where do I think I'm going? I do follow procedures exactly. I use a check-sheet every time (habit from flying helicopters). My hope was that someone with more experience with chemistry could suggest something I am missing. I have not lost enough water out of this pool (couple inches at most)...

    Pool eats CYA

Hello James and thanks for the help. It is a Pentair 150 paper filter. I replaced the element once thinking it might be a problem. It didn't seem to make any difference.

    Pool eats CYA

Leslie conditioner granules. It does raise the CYA. I have added around 60 oz since Friday and am back to 40- 50 ppm. I do not have auto fill and we have had only two rains that were heavy enough (besides Irma) to cause any overflow draining and then not that much. As to chemistry, you can...

    Pool eats CYA

No, not possible. The cage is 10" over grade in a cage. Overflowing volumes run out via a drain (drain can't back flow) long before the water level in the pool reaches the top of the deck.

    Pool eats CYA

Sorry I missed your question; no fishy smell. AND, the pool is in a cage so it is unlikely that the fertilizer guy spread any fertilizer into the 20 / 20 screen on his Oct visit. I watched him spread 140 # of 25 / 0 / 11 in granules and didn't notice any overspread.

    Pool eats CYA

Attached is my log of pool activities since opening the pool. This summer we had enough rain (which did overflow some to grade) that I didn't add any city water until this fall. I have added maybe 1" since the rains stopped weeks ago as the level was getting near the bottom of the skimmer...

    Pool eats CYA

I test FC daily. I test CYA weekly; more often when seeing the drops in CYA. I doubt there is any testing error. Normal summer rains for SW FL and then I had overflowing rainfall three weeks ago so the pool needed 40 OZ of CYA from Leslies to get it back to 50 ppm, and have added no more than...

    Pool eats CYA

Since taking over the pool after it was built this past spring, the 19,300 gallon pool goes through CYA. I get it up to 50 or even 80 and it is back to <20 within a month. Each time it requires a SLAM which normally takes 3-5 days. What in the world is causing this CYA loss? Plus, now that I...

    Harvey free fill up

You drained 1/2 of the pool? The pool didn't try to float with all that ground water around you from the storm?

Accuracy of TFTkits Vials May be in Question...

I found that if you buy a cheap digital scale, 1 mL weighs 1 gram. Weigh your samples and never look at the marks on the vials again.

    Totally Confused

I feel your pain on consistency. That whole bottom of the meniscus thing was/is a pain so I bought a small electronic gram scale for $15. One gram equals 1 ml, so no more guessing. Now it is simply trying to not vary the drop sizes from the various bottles.

    Interesting comment from Pinch-a-Penny tester

I was in to Pinch today to get my water tested (I do it to compare what they get vs my TF100). I am still coming down from a SLAM with a FC of 9 (pretty sure about the FC number of 9). She tests my water, hands me my printout and tells me it is my FC is 5. I say that is about 1/2 what I get at...

How do you accurately measure chemical additions?

I borrow the kitchen measuring scale and weight it. Easy-peasy and very repeatable.

    not generating Chlorine?

SLAM took until today, so started Sunday and finished Friday AM. Now, once the chlorine gets down to 8 or so, turn on the SWG and see if it can keep up. Thanks for the help!

    testing CYA with turbidity tester

So, why isn't Cyanuric Acid tested with a turbidity tester? Seems to me every pool store and many well heeled private Joes would have a gadget that would take the guesswork out of the dreaded CYA tube's black dot. Hach 2100Q Portable Turbidity Meter

My Numbers are in and I think I am going to cry lol

Hang in there Marines75... The aces here will get you set up ASAP. You best tell them what test system you have (TF100?), exactly what you have for a pool system (SWG?? etc), and if you have read the Getting Started threads.

    not generating Chlorine?

Thank you for thinking about my problem. The 8:30 numbers are tested numbers. I didn't want to let the chlorine drop below the SLAM recommended ppm over night. Also in the back of my mind I worry that this whole problem is mustard algae or some really nasty thing and extra chlorine is necessary.

    not generating Chlorine?

An update; Added Muriatic Acid Sunday AM to follow the SLAM rules on pH after my OCLT overnight FC drop Saturday PM; Then shut off the SWG and started adding bleach to my what I think is a crystal clear pool to hit the high side of target SLAM Chlorine levels for my CYA level. She gets a...
