Booster pump a goner, do I upgrade main pump

I have decided to eliminate my booster pump and buy a Polaris 360, and after I save some money upgrade to a variable speed pump. Can my Whisperflo(WFE-3) 3/4hp, 1.67 SF run the 360 in the interim?

Booster pump a goner, do I upgrade main pump

I guess my main objective is to save energy costs in light of my $0.25 kwh rates. On the other hand, I am afraid of switching out my Polaris 280 since it does such a good job. Ideally, I imagine, one pump with a pressure driven pool sweep that doesn't require a booster pump would be most energy...

Booster pump a goner, do I upgrade main pump

Hi, My Polaris 280 booster pump needs replacement and I have a WhisperFlo WFE-3, 3/4hp as main pump. My rates are $0.25 kwh. Do I upgrade my main pump to a 2-speed or variable speed pump with a pool cleaner that doesn't require booster pump(eg Polaris 360)? Or do I get a booster pump for the...

Wow! High Total Alkalinity. Ideal Target?

So, just follow the pH? The pH test kit that comes with the TF-100 is hard to read above 7.8 and I'm wondering if my pH is higher than 7.8. What pH do I shoot for? Do I get a more accurate pH tester? Thanks again.

Wow! High Total Alkalinity. Ideal Target?

I'm status post recent total drain and refill. On well water so high TA fill water. TF-100 results: FC 4 CC 0 TC 4 pH 7.8 TA 240 CH 130(pre-drain level-500) CYA15-20 What TA should I shoot for? Muriatic acid or dry acid? (I'm working on CYA level, and non-SWG.) Thanks.

My daughters don't want to use our pool-Tangles!

I am trying to figure out how much CYA to add without overshooting. The pool calculator(at bottom of page) calculates how much dichlor will affect CYA. When I enter the weight of dichlor do I adjust weight based on percentage of dichlor on label. So I have a one pound bag of 58.2% dichlor "pool...

(Sorry anonapersona! I was editing my previous post while you were answering it.) My understanding of CYA is 100-fold better after reading your post! Thank you very much.

My daughters don't want to use our pool-Tangles!

So what do I do first to balance my water? TF-100 results post total drain/refill: FC-0 CC-0 TC-0 pH-7.8 TA-220-230(yes I did wipe R-0009 tip in between drops and I also repeated) CH-120 CYA-not tested My source(and majority of refill) water is well water but I replace evaporated water with...

My daughters don't want to use our pool-Tangles!

Hi, Sorry for delayed response but after my TF-100 results of June 18th I thought my only option was to drain and refill: 6/18/2010 TF-100 test kit results: FC-23 CC-0 TC-23 pH-7.4 TA-250 CH-500 CYA->>100! I am pretty sure the above values are the reason for my girls' tangles. Well with...

My daughters don't want to use our pool-Tangles!

I appreciate all the input. Our pool water is topped off with a water softener so I am sure my pool has some salt. The use of pony tail/bun and swim caps make a lot of sense since you are decreasing the exposure of hair to pool water. The poolside conditioner and hair oil are also things I will...

My daughters don't want to use our pool-Tangles!

I've been thinking about why hair might tangle. Chlorine basically oxidizes and it must oxidize the natural oils in our hair. The higher the FC levels, the more hair oils that are removed. No oils in your hair equates to "dry" hair that is more likely to tangle. Have you ever used bar soap when...

My daughters don't want to use our pool-Tangles!

We've tried the Johnson & Johnson detangler and multiple conditioners. My daughters do have especially thick hair but the tangling is especially bad in our pool. I think I will test my friend's pool water(hardly any tangling) side by side with my pool water and see if there is any big difference...

We've used multiple conditioners after 'googling' the problem. It doesn't seem to happen in other pools...

My daughters don't want to use our pool-Tangles!

Hello everyone, My daughters are ending up with terribly tangled hair after using our pool. The day after is terrible, when my wife de-tangles their hair. They don't seem to suffer from this when using our friends' or the school's pool. It is to the point where they don't want to use our pool...
