Usually I bring the water in to a pool store. I have test strips but I am aware that they aren’t that great.

Found this in my pool when I took the cover off. Water was quite clean otherwise. Can I just shock the pool or is a drain necessary? not sure what kind of animal that is. Was hoping rabbit, mole or squirrel since I read raccoons are the most dangerous for pools.

I use the fly traps at Home Depot. Hang them around the property. It cut our fly problem down 95%
