Winterized too early and now I've lost a lot of water

Agreed, that was my prime motivator.

Winterized too early and now I've lost a lot of water

Just thought I'd come back with an update. Turns out I did have a hole in the liner. There were some small tears where the pool ladder goes into the pool. Since my ladder is broken and moves around a bit, I'm guessing a rock or something got under that and cut the liner as someone was getting in...

Winterized too early and now I've lost a lot of water

I looked all over but didnt see any evidence of one. It has been really hot since labor day when I covered it, and i think my pool cover lets water through it.

Winterized too early and now I've lost a lot of water

So I just let the pool go and now almost all the water had evaportated out of it through the cover. I guess I should fill it back up so it’s strong and put the floats in it or something.

Winterized too early and now I've lost a lot of water

I live in southern Missouri and the general practice here is to open your pool around Memorial Day and close it on labor day. Which I did, with a winter pool cover on top. The winterizing pool guide said to wait till the water reach 60 degrees, and I didn't wait for that. Its been SUPER hot...

Small Green Spots on pool floor, normal?

Last night I was at 5.5 FC. I added 32oz of 10% bleach per pool calc. An hour later I was still at 5.5 FC... This morning I was at 4.5 FC.

Small Green Spots on pool floor, normal?

Yes I can definitely do that tonight. To be clear, by proper you mean adding the chlorine tonight, checking the level 30-60min later to confirm I'm where I want to be, and then checking it again the next morning, correct?

Small Green Spots on pool floor, normal?

I SLAM'd my pool last week until it passed the 3 tests. Since then I have not let the chlorine drop below 4ppm. However, I noticed that I am getting these spots that will appear on the bottom of the pool. After vacuuming them up, they will appear again in a day or so. All my levels are good...

Adding chemicals is not increasing my pool values

That is a good point. I should do a full range of tests again. Thanks for that last little tidbit. You probably saved me some panicking if my chlorine was getting eaten up as I ease off the SLAM.

Adding chemicals is not increasing my pool values

*** UPDATE *** So I started the SLAM on the 23rd. The first few days the chlorine was getting consumed FAST. Like 6ppm in a few hours! But the last 2 days it has really tapered off. I have a question about the pool calculator. I noticed that, for instance, last night my FC was at 16 and my CC...

Adding chemicals is not increasing my pool values

I followed the steps in the tf-100 exactly, so assuming their chemicals work, I'm fairly confident. I can do it again to see if I reach the same number.

Adding chemicals is not increasing my pool values

Ok guys, so it's been a few days. I'm still doing something wrong I think. So after doing the the weekly test on Saturday, these were my levels despite adding chlorine every day (this is just to give an example instead of listing every day's readings): FC- 0 CC - 0 TC - 0 PH 7.5 TA - 70 CYA -...

Adding chemicals is not increasing my pool values

Walmart by my in MO sells 10% liquid chlorine in pool section for $3.64/gal. And they have another one thats the same strength for $6.44/gal, but I don't know why anyone would buy that.

Adding chemicals is not increasing my pool values

Thanks Mr Bruce. I'll follow your advice and adjust from there and see how it goes. Any thoughts on why my PH wouldn't be increasing though?

Adding chemicals is not increasing my pool values

Since I just added the CYA again on Friday, and I've read it takes at least a week to get absorbed or whatever, should I just add chlorine to try to get to get to the amount FC of what I think the CYA level should be at? If the amount the pool calculator is telling me to add is not effective...

Adding chemicals is not increasing my pool values

I do have some small brown spots in the bottom of pool that I vacuumed up yesterday but are back again this morning. I thought it was just dirt. Would that be algae? If that is the case, does that mean I need to SLAM it?

Adding chemicals is not increasing my pool values

Hey guys. I'm kind of at a loss here. I have a TF-100 kit and this has been my experience. When I first got it, my FC was around 1-2 since I had put some chlorine in the pool already, PH was 7.2. Friday May 5 I do the full test and my CYA was practically 0 (at least less than 20, no cloudiness...

This site has saved me so much headache!

I opted for the test kit and the little spinner gizmo that swirls the water, and it was like $114. I feel like on average when I went to the pool store I walked out of there spending at least $40-80 bucks. So I'm already getting bang for my buck.

Pentair 320 Auto Chlorine Feeder Always has water in it?

Yeah, I know it doesn't matter now with no tabs, I just wasn't sure if it was an indication of malfunction. That height is what it is at with the pump currently running. I'm on the fence about using it. In the How To Chlorinate Your Pool page on this site it says that using Trichlor tabs...

This site has saved me so much headache!

This is my second season with our pool that we inherited when we bought our home. Last summer, I fumbled through pool care. I fought algae all summer, and I felt like every video I watched online or advice I got from the pool store resulted in more and more $$$. The water was always hazy, eyes...

Pentair 320 Auto Chlorine Feeder Always has water in it?

Hey Guys. My pool has a auto chlorine tab feeder on the pipe to the pool return. So far I have just been adding bleach to the water instead of using the chlorine tabs. Not sure if this is a more effective method or not. Anyway, my Model 320's valve is set to off, but the unit is still half way...

Having trouble figuring out how long I should run my pump

Thanks for the reply, Richard. I did read that article before, and I think you've answered my question then. It's basically just providing enough circulation combined with how much aesthetic appeal you want

Having trouble figuring out how long I should run my pump

Hey guys. First time poster! Excited to try maintaining my pool the right way after fighting algae all summer last year. This is our second season with the pool (purchased home with existing install). As you can see in my signature, the pool is just over 16,000 gallons. Last year I ran the pump...
