plaster on new pool-is this how it should look?

mine had some brown spots from a and s when it was done. turned out to be from some kind of plant or tree debris that the chlorine took care of. other than that, I can not say my plaster is perfect, it does have lighter and darker spots here and there. whenever I see other pools I always...

    Calcium build up

hardness went up. im not an expert but I attribute this to the scale dissolving and thus turning back into CH...but I could be wrong. these shot were after the pools first winter up opening. the previous year I kept my ch 350 or over. I now keep it lower around 300-320 and towards the middle...

anyone ever notice this on the taylor site regarding TA test

False-high reading due to cyanuric acid Cyanuric acid (CYA) titrates as total alkalinity when CYA is greater than 30 ppm. Adjust for this by subtracting 1/3 of your CYA reading from your total alkalinity reading to get the correct alkalinity value. For a more detailed explanation, refer to page...

    Calcium build up

I had this issue the first 2 years after my pool was built. scrubbing with a wire brush did nothing. a pumice stone would work but doing the whole pool would have taken me forever and went through a lot of stones. I ended up using scale tech and by following the directions closely, it removed...

    phosphates

i wouldn't disagree with that. but the way I see it, phosphates are food for algae. the less food, the better. plus it didn't cost a whole lot to hopefully get rid of them. and I will admit, between my neighbor telling me his story and the high test I had done, I was sold on the idea. i...

    phosphates

I cant say with 100% certainty but...I never paid any mind to phosphates until the other day while I was hanging out with a neighbor. turns out he had a pool at his old house. we were talking and I was telling him my pool was driving me nuts with chlorine consumption and he said "you probably...

    phosphates

I did do a test of ph and ak last night along with chlorine. ph is slightly higher as expected, ak is the same. did not do ch or cya. will do those when this is all done as I will also be getting a phosphate test done at the store in a day or 2 unless my kit shows up before that. will also...

    phosphates

update: here are some pics of solidified phosphates im guessing. even if this does nothing as im expecting, I still like the idea of getting rid of this stuff. in a strange turn of events: yesterday morning fc was at 6.5 and I ran the swg all day to come home and it was at 4.5 tc with 0.5...

    phosphates

water temp has been around 60 all week with minor fluctuations. I have never seen that cya/chlorine chart...good to know as I have always kept the fc around 5....I now see that's too low and will increase, but have never had any issues. I never use pucks and only use shock bags when when either...

    phosphates

im having an issue with chlorine demand upon opening this year. pool was opened last Monday and swg can not keep up with chlorine so I have been manually adding bleach. current levels are: FC 7 PH 7.5 AK 80 CH 310 (will be adding) CYA 70 I did go to the pool store to have a phosphate test...

    Pitting or scaling?

kinda looks similar to a problem I just got don't dealing with. however, mine did not leave any holes when I scrubbed them? are you sure the holes are into the plaster or is it possible that the holes are into a layer of scale that you think is plaster? have you used a pumice stone on this...

    backwash hose

when I backwash I have to run that flimsy hose in a large arc to a 90 degree change of direction. sometimes is goes without a hitch but most of the time it ends up flailing around, kinking and then splitting. then I have to shorten it. I though I had it figured out last night, I bought a 2"...

    Polaris hose getting tangled

I had this problem with mine when it was brand new. on the one I have there is a adjustment swivel/dial down low on the back of the cleaner. it adjusts the angle shoots out the back. I set mine to 11 o'clock and it has not tangled since.

    impractical slam?

kept it that low on purpose as per instruction on Scale Tec, which actually works I might add. ok then, no slam it is. my thought process was to get rid of the cc which im thinking climbed by now from the low fc level I have been maintaining. I haven't tested it since there was nothing I was...

    impractical slam?

I am planning on shocking slamming pool this weekend. I have been keeping fc 1.5-2 for a couple weeks dealing with scale. (as per instructions on product purchased). latest number are: fc 1.5-2 cc 0.2 (a week ago) ph 7.6 ta 65 ch 300 cya 70-80 its a 31k gallon plaster salt pool. I have never...

walls and floor covered in ???

that's a great idea, I surely would have tried that last week. but if what im seeing by eye is actually what it is, it will only take me 10-20 to finish up with a stone.

walls and floor covered in ???

UPDATE: fc 1.5-2 ph 7.0-7.3 ta 70 ch 300 cya 65 I added scale tec last Saturday, turned off swg, maintained 1.5-2 fc with bleach, kept ph low. on sunday floor was covered with small bright white specs which have since almost gone away. floor is almost clear, walls are looking much better...

    Bleach

I hear ya but I don't have a whole lot of choices. figured Id throw $80 at it, and hope for a miracle that relieves me from scrubbing entire filled pool with a pumice stone. with that said, the scale is much better than it was, most likely due to me holding ph 7.0-7.2. just put the scale tec...

    Bleach

I know it is. cya is 65-70. the product im using "scale tec" suggest 1.5 -2 chlorine level or the chlorine will render product ineffective. they suggest using algaecide while using product. believe me, I don't feel good about it but I feel worse about the scaling.

    Bleach

thanks for the reply. I went to lowes to pick up bleach. I wanted to get Clorox but they only had splashless so I got an off brand. I have to keep pool at 1.5-2 fc. I will try to keep as close as possible to high end. should I be calculating this as 8.25% or 7.86%? not that it will make a...

    Bleach

I have to turn off my swg for 2 weeks while I try scale tec to remove scale(described in another thread). instead of using chlorine tabs, I was going to use bleach. is there anything I need to know before I do this? do I just use the Clorox I have in the laundry room? or is that not the...

walls and floor covered in ???

here is the latest update... ph was 7.8 last night at 5pm. I added 1 gallon of acid and retested after 1 hour, pump was running and I was brushing it like crazy during the hour. it came down to 7.2. the encouraging news is ch went up to 330 from 275 so im thinking its starting to dissolve...
