Bad Scaling On Tile Grout and Surfaces

Thanks, a lot here to read and absorb...by the way, my CH when closing was around 450 and 325 when opening...... lots of snow/rain and drain over winter....I usually close with the pH around 7.2, and when I open it's off the chart high, purple. I admit, I used Cal-Hypo 73% when closing. I...

Bad Scaling On Tile Grout and Surfaces

When we removed the cover this year, we had bad thick scaling on the grout lines, and some of the tiles' surface area was frosty..... a thin layer of scaling. Normally, this does not happen till summer. In the past, I have easily removed the scaling on the grout lines using a single-edge...

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

I added 2 pounds of Cal hypo 73 2 hours before installing the chlorinator. Then I put the IC-40 chlorinator in boost mode. The cell light stays on. I had to leave for a business trip, but I asked my wife to check the chlorine while I’m gone to make sure it’s working.

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

Happy ending. The new IC40 arrived. Took me less than 10 minutes to remove the nine year-old unit, install the new unit, all the lights come on as would be expected. ASSUMING IT’S MAKING CHLORINE, IT’S ALL GOOD TO GO.👍 I packed up the old unit with the new flow switch that I haven’t yet...

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

Well, it's working after all that "LED drama"!!! FC at 3 PM was 3.5 PPM, and FC at 9 PM was 5.0 PPM. Water temp at 62.4F> I'll do my yearly "pool opening SLAM", this weekend, then install the new IC-40. SALT at 3200 ppm. Temps will hit 35 and 32 the next couple of days...so no stress on the...

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

Yes, fully agree, this is the start of the 10th season for it. I think I got my value out of it. That's why I got the new one today.....and becuase it carries a 2 year warranty with Marina, nice guy on the phone. Easy order. Already shipped it. And it'll take me 5 minutes to install....that's...

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

Got it....I have it on Boost. I measured FC=3.5 about an hour ago. Dark overcast skies. I'll measure FC at 10 PM tonight just to see if it is producing CL. I know it's going bad because last year it read low salt at around 3800, but it was making CL. It's time for the new one, it's on the way.

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

UPDATE: This thing is driving me crazy: While I wait for the new IC-40, the old one is now functioning differently (like working?). Yesterday it had only the RED light COLD water ON, all others out, which I had never seen before...Today it's normal operation as far as the Green lights except LOW...

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

Marina sounds good. I think a 2-year warranty on something like this is a good idea. In fact, the one I received from Pentair Store direct in 2016 had to be replaced under warranty too. I have a new flow sensor coming, should be here by end of the week, will first try the repair.....as my cell...

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

got it. Here is one below on Amazon for under $1K....says "Old Style" which for sure is what I already have, purchased in 2016. Mine isn't even a DIY install, it's pop out the old, pop in the new. 5 minutes. ;)...

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

the "For Pentair" is definitely what caught my attention too. I will only buy genuine Pentair. OK, I hate to ask: After checking 4-5 websites for the "EC" version, what does the "EC" mean? The closest reference was "Extra Comfort" which I find to be a useless moniker. Is it an improvement I want?

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

Found this on eBay....$780....But I am wondering if it is a genuine Pentair replacement.....because the Pentair logo is not posted on the pic. Weasel-worded. https://www.ebay.com/itm/396392487092 I'll be looking at those wires shortly. 3 or 4?

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

Thank you for the reply: Just looked up the date I bought it...I was shocked to find out I bought it in 2016....so this will be the tenth season coming up. When pressing / holding the MORE button, the lights indicated 60% cell life used. I'll have to go check on the three vs. four wire...

IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

Last year at startup, I had some difficulty with my IC-40 telling me the salt level was low and/or the water was too cold. I measured the SALT and it was 3200 (I have the TFT Salt Measurement Kit, very handy....)....At the time, I assumed the flow switch was going bad. Ultimately, the unit did...

Filter Leaking from the Main Body on "Seam"

Yes, I agree. The price for the entire filter system was less than expected. Great idea on the landscape fabric...and I even have a roll laying around in the shed too. :) New Filter ordered, on the way, free shipping.

Using a Harbor Freight sump pump for circulation in the winter?

You will need a pump to remove water from above the tile line. If it freezes it could remove some of your tiles. I have a love seat in the deep end and keep it there. I have a weather system that measures rain here accurately, so I am pretty well advised on "how much" when any rain accumulates...

Filter Leaking from the Main Body on "Seam"

Looks like the "T" is 1.5" pipe fitting, T2 is 2". I prefer 2"....for the exact replacement desired. And I'm assuming it's a higher price than the 1.5". So, I can use the Home Depot filter with my old valve...or spend the extra $80 and get a new valve with desired size. I think it is $80 well...

Filter Leaking from the Main Body on "Seam"

Awesome, you just saved me $80...that certainly warrants another donation to TFP.... :) The one at Home Depot is the one I need, 2" PVC.

Filter Leaking from the Main Body on "Seam"

After searching thru about 30 websites where S244T2 filter (24"/2" PVC) was seen to be discontinued, I found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/283290262484?var=585688004771 I do think this is a pin-for-pin drop-in replacement for my current filter. Price in line with expectations. Free shipping.

Filter Leaking from the Main Body on "Seam"

JamesW: Thanks for the excellent data. So, being an Engineer, I was looking at the MANUAL...and the model numbers in the manual are much different than the one printed on the label on the filter. Aaaaargh!!!!! The label on the vessel says Model Number is: S244T2.... I went looking on the web for...

Filter Leaking from the Main Body on "Seam"

Thanks for the tip....I'll look into it. My goal was to find an identical tank vessel replacement, with no plumbing changes. Easy DIY. I have unions and it would be easy. My filter is 10 years old and so far it looks like MY tank is discontinued. I went to the Hayward website and left them an...
