IC-40 SWG Cold Light RED_Can I "Eliminate" Thermistor?

Mark,

Keep in mind the IC40 only knows what it thinks the salt level is... The actual salt level could be 6K, but the cell might think the salt level is only 2800 and report low salt.. It all depends on how bad the thermistor is...

Since the low salt light is on, the cell thinks the salt level is below 2800.. It will make chlorine between 2800 and 2600.. In theory, it will quit making chlorine when it thinks the salt level is below 2600..

thanks,

Jim R.

Got it....I have it on Boost. I measured FC=3.5 about an hour ago. Dark overcast skies. I'll measure FC at 10 PM tonight just to see if it is producing CL. I know it's going bad because last year it read low salt at around 3800, but it was making CL. It's time for the new one, it's on the way.

At best, the old one is on really really borrowed time. You will not find a replacement for $999 out the door, or even close to that, when the time comes.

Yes, fully agree, this is the start of the 10th season for it. I think I got my value out of it. That's why I got the new one today.....and becuase it carries a 2 year warranty with Marina, nice guy on the phone. Easy order. Already shipped it. And it'll take me 5 minutes to install....that's the BEST part LOL.

Use the new one for the warranty period. Then squeeze whatever the old one has left, then go back to the new one.

Well, it's working after all that "LED drama"!!! FC at 3 PM was 3.5 PPM, and FC at 9 PM was 5.0 PPM. Water temp at 62.4F> I'll do my yearly "pool opening SLAM", this weekend, then install the new IC-40. SALT at 3200 ppm. Temps will hit 35 and 32 the next couple of days...so no stress on the pool. Should be good to go.

Happy ending. The new IC40 arrived. Took me less than 10 minutes to remove the nine year-old unit, install the new unit, all the lights come on as would be expected. ASSUMING IT’S MAKING CHLORINE, IT’S ALL GOOD TO GO.👍 I packed up the old unit with the new flow switch that I haven’t yet installed. But worst case scenario I have a spare.

Mark,

If the "Cell" light is on, then the cell is making chlorine... Just for reference... At 50% output, the cell light will be on for about 2.5 minutes and then off for 2.5 minutes as it rests...

Glad you got it up and running... :goodjob:

Thanks,

Jim R.

I added 2 pounds of Cal hypo 73 2 hours before installing the chlorinator. Then I put the IC-40 chlorinator in boost mode. The cell light stays on. I had to leave for a business trip, but I asked my wife to check the chlorine while I’m gone to make sure it’s working.
