Re-Plaster happening, pool drained, algae in pipes... help!

Thanks for the input folks, that brings my stress down to a more manageable level. I've bleached what I can see and cleaned the filter as best I can. Might try to vacuum/blow out the lines after I've given them a chance to disinfect, just so they can dry.

Re-Plaster happening, pool drained, algae in pipes... help!

Hello TFP, What an adventure. We had our pool re-plastered last year because the original plaster was starting to scrape our knees. The company we used plasters one day, leaves the pool dry overnight, and then acid washes the next day before filling it. Not sure I'm a fan of that, but it's...

Pump died. Got a VS and a question about pump height.

Thanks for the replies. Jim, to clarify... are you ribbing me for using 1 1/2" vs 1.5", or are you saying the pentair pump has 1.5" hookups? The documentation I read about the pentair says it can be either 1.5" or 2". Either way the unions and valves I bought are 2", so I guess I can use a...

Pump died. Got a VS and a question about pump height.

Hello all, Recently our 20ish year old single speed 1.5hp pump motor died (Sta Rite p2ra). It had been on its last legs for awhile, so we already decided on replacing it with a VS pump (Pentair 342001) when the inevitable happened. Luckily for us the local power company gives us a rebate for...

Getting ready to drain. Anything I should know first?

Thanks for the insight. Luckily, the temperature here for the next week is supposed to be very mild. The highest daytime temp I'm looking at for next week is around 85 with overnight lows in the 40's and 50's. The days I'm actually planning on doing it are forecast to be a high of 75. If my...

Getting ready to drain. Anything I should know first?

Just started with our pool (bought 20yr old home last November with a pool of unknown age) and planning on using TFP to keep it clean rather than the pool store nonsense. I got my new TF-100 test kit in yesterday and immediately followed the directions for doing a CYA test, as that's the number...

New guy with a question on partially draining a pool

Oh, wow. Nice catch. I saw that same document and didn't see what you're talking about. Of course I see it now that you pointed it out. I think a submersible pump is probably the way to go. More expense but less headache. By the time I pump it I'm sure the FC will be low enough that it...

New guy with a question on partially draining a pool

I am actually outside the city limits in Dona Ana County. I couldn't find any information on regulations, but the county is usually pretty easygoing. I'm using only liquid chlorine from Wal-Mart now (10%). Was using dichlor packets and chlorine tabs until a couple of weeks ago when I started...

New guy with a question on partially draining a pool

Hello all, For the past couple of weeks I've been doing a lot of lurking here and elsewhere on the internet to try to figure the pool thing out. My wife and I just bought our home with a 18000 gallon in-ground plaster pool last November and went to the pool store to get information on how to...
