More bad press for Salt pools...

That's fair, and it leans to the side that this is fear mongering. It is curious that they seem to have support from the ROC now, which calls into question the integrity/validity of the ROC now if they're not doing true due diligence before supporting these claims.

More bad press for Salt pools...

I think it's a bit cost-silly to rip and replace my decking when I could replace my chlorine source. I'm trying to ask a specific question about realistic potential for degradation vs. fear mongering nonsense.

More bad press for Salt pools...

I did consider that, but even though I disclaimed that I'm not a concrete guy, I do know that not all concrete is the same and that the formulas, ingredients, and mixes they use for bridges over salt water are undoubtedly vastly different than a pool shell or decking in my back yard and are...

More bad press for Salt pools...

The topic has been beaten to death... industry "pros" generally have bad things to say about salt pools. My take is that they are not well-informed, they are sensationalistic, and want to sell you very expensive and borderline silly things like UV and other magic sanitizers because they can...

    Rusty Water In Light

Yeah that's kinda where my question was based.... with rust naturally once it starts it's invasive so even if I dried it out and replaced the seal my concern would be that the rust would persist. If I got lucky and it was just a screw or something that was rusting maybe it wouldn't be that bad.

    Rusty Water In Light

I have a Pentair Amerilite standard light fixture. I recently had the pool drained and power washed, tile cleaned, etc. After refilling, I'm now noticing what appears to be rusty water inside the light housing. Could the power washing have forced water into the light housing/compromised the...

    INYO discontinuing PureLine

Hey everyone, is anyone plugged in with the folks at INYO? I think we might have one or two floating around the forum. I see that INYO is now promoting a new brand of pumps and the PureLine stuff is being discontinued. I am curious if anyone can discuss the reason for that? Was there...

    Target TA level

Correct, pool is just a basic hole in the ground with water in it. :)

    Target TA level

I find myself adding acid every 2 days as I'm always back up to 8.0 very quickly. Just trying to temper that a bit. Yessir, understood. That's exactly what I'm aiming for -- less often.

    Target TA level

Noted. Another member was helping me in that thread and posed it as a possibility, as well as that I could be dissolving some scale. He was clearly more knowledgeable than I, so I will take his advice not to deep cycle the pH as aggressively as i was. I don't have much visible scale, but that...

    TF100 Test Kit

I did see someone else suggested using 4 drops instead of 5, as it made the shade easier to match to the indicator. I don't remember who it was otherwise I would give credit, but I do think it makes the colors a little easier to match up. I had been using the pH test from my K2006 kit because...

    Target TA level

Is it a fool's errand to try to lower/maintain a TA of 70 when the fill water is 140? My "ideal" chemistry requires a low TA. I tend to have high pH, so I wanted to slow the pH rise cycle with borates. I wanted to get the TA to a target number before adding the borates. The target chemistry...

    CH increase?

Geez, I hadn't gotten into that part of the app before. I'd used it for SWG calculations. That's very helpful, thank you for your advice.

    CH increase?

Alright, thanks for the help. I was following the path of "get the TA to around 70 before adding borates" but I guess I was being too aggressive? Putting my target TA into PoolMath just said lower the pH to 7.0-7.2 and aerate to bring pH back up. I guess I should have paid more attention to...

    CH increase?

I thought it might be something along those lines. My logs are in my profile, but I haven't been logging immediately after the acid adds. If I take my existing levels and drop the pH to 7, the CSI does drop down to -0.69, which of course is not good, but I assumed this was expected with a...

    CH increase?

Hey folks, would love to get your input on this one. Disclaimer: The CH test is my kryptonite. However I don't think I'm crazy on this. My CH has somewhat suddenly increased and I'm not sure why. My autofiller is on a softened line, so it's not the fill water. We haven't had any rain and...

    TF100 Box/Case?

This was my latest adventure... it's a DeWalt parts organizer that I picked up at Home Depot. It *almost* worked out how I wanted it to. The test cards/papers can't be stored in it because when the lid closes the dividers press into the recesses in the lid. Not shown is my pH test meter that...

Awesome, I'm seeing some great ideas here! Looks like tackle box is the way to go.

Ahhhh, good idea. I had thought about a small tool box but this is better. Do you happen to have any pics of it filled up?

    TF100 Box/Case?

Has anyone rehomed their TF100 to a different box or case? I have been searching in earnest for over a year for a suitable replacement case. The included case is fine to fit the kit as it ships, and I even managed to get the K1766 bottles in there, but I also have a SpeedStir and I have a few...

    Pool Math App Update

I'm a little late to the party here, but I have noticed that when I go into pH from the Overview screen, my target pH keeps showing 7.4. If I set it to my actual target, like 7.6 or 7.7, it will show me how much acid to add to get to that point, however next time I go back into the pH screen it...

    CH with SWCG

Understood and agreed. I never rely on pool store tests, only use them on occasion to bounds-check my own results due my color perception issues. If something of concern comes of it, where else to go to clarify than here? I usually ignore the results, but this *particular* case was odd enough...

    CH with SWCG

I know the "ignore the pool store" refrain, but as I mentioned I have trouble with the colors on the tests sometimes. Reds in particular and I can't always tell the difference between purple and blue, so I periodically get outside testing to ensure I'm staying within a margin of error. In this...

    CH with SWCG

Why is the recommended CH for SWCG pools higher than bleach pools? I have been getting around 310 or so with my tests. 2 pool store tests today (yes, I know...) gave me 241 and 250. So, either they're coincidentally consistently wrong, or I'm wrong. I admit that I have trouble with the colors...

    Adjusted TA?

Thanks for the answer. Yes, I realize all those things about pool stores. Grain of salt and all that, for sure. I have difficulty with the colors on the tests sometimes, so occasionally I like to gather some extra data points to see if I'm within standard deviations.

    Adjusted TA?

Has anyone gone to a Poolwerx store and had a water test which gives 2 results for Alkalinity? One for "Alkalinity" and one for "Adjusted Alkalinity"? Occasionally I like to sanity check my test results against pool stores. Poolwerx has a digital meter system so I figured it would be less...

    Getting Ready for SWG

My fill water is softened. The water here is extremely hard so there is no way I'd be able to keep the CH below 450 with straight city water. With the softened water I can control the CH as needed. My TA is currently 50 and I'm hitting 8.0 pH every 2 days. If I can slow that rise down with...
