It ended up being the rubber hose. The ends were swollen and didn't fit tight. I cut 1/2" off each end and reinstalled it. Everything is working as it should now. thank you for your help. bill

so, the consensus seems to be that it isn't worth it to try and fix this water if I'm going to dump it at the end of the season. Stick with the Bioguard, of which I have a shed full of anyway, and after the new liner goes in, start fresh with the the TFP system? bill
