New Liner - Am I being too picky?

Have to admit......I've had fun reading these responses! Who knew the TFP folks could be so witty :ROFLMAO: Love this place!

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

Well, I certainly appreciate all the feedback and things to consider. Today, the pool company that installed it said that they misread the Latham email and they are willing to give me $1500 rather than $1200. I'm suspecting some shenanigans and maybe they are trying to see what I will accept...

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

You know......I actually tried that and I have to admit, it was very hard (if not impossible) to see the defect when I had the pump running. Given that I do leave the pump running most of the day perhaps I could live with that as a solution.

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

So, I finally heard back from Latham about this discoloration issue in my liner. They agreed it was a manufacturing problem and said they would either replace the liner (at no cost me me, including labor, water and startup chems) OR they would give me $1200 to leave it as is. As much as it pains...

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

All true, however, for an additional $100 (which I gladly paid), the installer (pool company) offered liner insurance which specifically covers all of those items for the first 5 years...100% So, as you said, the difficult part will be getting Latham to cover the defect. This is clearly a...

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

Yes, that was my first thought and I'm sure they will push back with that. It is on the slope, but it's in the middle of the slope. I also took a picture of the liner without water and I can see that the splice of liner in that exact spot is actually lighter. I included a picture without water...

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

ok, makes sense.....my new liner has a white base, hence the white seem. However, Latham says this about their liners/seems (directly from the Latham website). "And with our patented Ultra-Seam technology, which comes standard on all of our pool liners, you’ll never see an unsightly seam again."

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

Another thing I noticed is that the seams along the bottom and the steps all look white (see pic). Is this normal? I never noticed anything like this in my previous liner. This liner is a Latham liner which I thought was a decent manufacturer. I'm having some doubts now.

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

I hope so too.....I'm sure there will be a lot of negotiation around it. Like, who pays for the re-fill and re-install and all the chemicals I just put in to balance before closing. I am of the opinion that the manufacturer should pay for ALL of that. It's probably going to be a battle :(

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

Yes, it's that lighter strip that bothers me. I'm not sure what they can do short of replacing the entire liner  My wife thought I was being too picky (she hates conflict and doesn't want me to pursue it) but for the huge amount I spent for the liner, I don't think I should have to live...

New Liner - Am I being too picky?

Just had this new liner installed 3 days ago. When filled I noticed what appears to be a manufacturing defect. I was planning to complain to the pool company that installed it but am I being too picky about this issue? Please take a look and give me your opinion.....

New Liner this fall....how to close?

Thanks for the info.....I guess I better buy some CYA/Chlorine. CYA of 30ppm ok? I normally keep it around 70-80 when the SWG is running but 30 will allow for less chlorine to bring to SLAM before closing as I won't be using the SWG.

New Liner this fall....how to close?

I am questioning the need to CYA/Chlorine since water temp will likely be 50 degrees by late October (It's already 59 now). I suppose I could add Chlorine as insurance, but then I would need to add CYA, some of which will be lost due to water displacement over the winter.

New Liner this fall....how to close?

Sorry.....the testing for proper TA/pH was implied as I said "making sure proper TA/pH are good". If you look at my signature you will see I have the TF-100

New Liner this fall....how to close?

So our new liner will be installed in the next couple of weeks. Normally my pool would be closed by now but we obviously need to keep it open. My question is about getting the water ready for closure after the new liner is installed and the pool is refilled, likely by mid October or even late...

    New liner costs

Yes ugly indeed. I guess we picked a bad time to replace a liner. Just got second and third estimates and they were all in the $10K-$11K range for what seems to be a similar pool as yours. I've decided on the estimate from my original pool builder. $10,700 for 27/27 and they can do it before...

    New liner costs

My liner is 16 years old and needs to be replaced. No leaks but it is pulling away from stairs and there are many wrinkles on the stairs. Also faded. I posted in another thread that I got an estimate of $10,500 to replace it. It's a free form Lagoon style about 40 feet long and the deep end is...

    New liner costs

Hey guys.....after 16 years I am going to get a new liner for my pool. The old one doesn't have any leaks but the bead where it attaches to my steel steps has ripped away and I'm afraid another winter will end up tearing the liner. So this is a pre-emptive move to avoid a mid-season disaster and...

Need new solar cover for irregular shaped pool

My plan is to get 2 rectangles to cut/fit to my irregular shaped pool. Probably from Sun2Solar. My gut tells me to get the cheapest ones (800 series - 8 mil) as they typically don't last more than a couple of years at most anyways. Does anyone have any reasons why I should get the more expensive...

Heater won't start even tho flame icon is flashing

Thanks....since the pilot no longer lights, how can I test that gas is actually getting to the pilot ignition? Same leads?

Heater won't start even tho flame icon is flashing

Yes, I was getting the two flame icons when the pilot lit, the outside one was flickering around the inside one. (but now I just get ILO after filling the tank...probably coincidence). I didn't see anything that looked shorted on the board. But as I mentioned, that problem is not happening...

Heater won't start even tho flame icon is flashing

Not sure about the gas cock open/closed when filled. I'm thinking I left it open. Yes, the the pilot DID light, the sparking stopped
  27. R

Heater won't start even tho flame icon is flashing

Well......I was hoping filling the tanks would solve this but no such luck. After filling, the pilot never lights and I get ILO after 90 seconds. Initially, before I filled the tanks, the pilot was lighting (I put a mirror under to see it) but the burners would not ignite. Now the pilot never...

Going away for a week...ideas needed

Yes I do have a mesh loop loc cover but I was trying to avoid putting that back on for the week I'm gone. I'm beginning to realize I may need to bite the bullet and put it on for the most protection.

Going away for a week...ideas needed

My other idea is to fill the water such that the level is above the skimmers. That way the stuff floating on top should bypass the skimmer and eventually sink. This would require adding about 3" of water tho....might be a little costly
