    CYA to FC levels

Sorry all. I forgot to come back here. My water is clear and pretty. Though if I forget a day it starts to get cloudy, after a bit of bleach, it clears right up. I have a friend with a pool that uses tabs. So maybe I'll just go get one from her to use and see what it does. The pool is mostly in...

    CYA to FC levels

Hi all, Last year I was dealing with 100+ CYA levels. I'm happy to say that through several gradual water replacements, that is no longer an issue. I just opened the pool yesterday. Today I did a test and my CYA is <30. What is the recommended FC level for a CYA of 30? Do I need to raise the CYA...

Opened pool - things are pretty good!

Hello fellow TFP'ers. After a few days of 80-90 degree weather, I finally decided to open the pool. Last year was my first year using this method, and I had a heck of a time dealing with a CYA of over 110. The cover came off, and the water was clear!! Such a relief that was. Of course, there...

So it doesn't matter if the FC is the same from night to morning? If there is some green, it doesn't pass?

    Green water

Hi all! We are preparing to close our pool now. Following the steps on here, we waited until the water was cold enough, then brought the water to SLAM level. The first time, the water went from 26 at night to 25 the next morning. The next day it started at 24 and stayed at 24 the next morning...

    Pool Closing question number 2 & 3

Hi all! I have read and read, and feel comfortable with the concept of blowing out the vents, and lowering the water level to just below the skimmer. But, I'm still a little baffled with the pool pump. Am I supposed to be doing something to that? And I keep reading about putting pool noodles or...

    Pool closing - High CYA

Sorry, yes, I know. SLAM, not shock. I just used the wrong terminology. No, the waters not consistently at 60 degrees yet. This is the first week it is starting to get cold. So I'm keeping an eye on it and waiting. Is the polyquat 60 purchased online or at the pool store?

    Pool closing - High CYA

Hello pool experts. As I'm getting ready to close the pool, I have a question regarding my water. My CYA levels were rocket high this year (just started BBB this season), and the best I got it down to was 80/90. I've just been maintaining the water at that level. So, with closing and my levels...

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

A week later and this is where I sit. FC: 10 (added more bleach after testing to bring it back up) CC: 0 TA: 120 CYA: 90 pH: 7.6 Pool is almost clear, there is just a hint of cloudy at the deep end.

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

FC was 11.5... I hadn't added bleach the last two days, so I added what I needed to get back up to 13 CC was 0 pH was 7.2... added borax to bring it up a touch TA was somewhere between 100 and 110. CYA was 90. So, whatever I did in reading the test the other day, I must have just been off, as...

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

No, there are no pucks, and hubby hasn't been to the pool store. He's finally on my side (after a very hormonal crying fit of him not trusting me to give it a go, like I trusted him to buy whatever the pool store told him to last season. Ha!), so he's not interfering. Plus, the pool is looking a...

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

FC: 11.5 CC: 0 pH: 7.2 TA: 110 CYA: 120 Now I'm confused! How did I get a CYA of 90 a few days ago, and now it's over 100?! The only thing I've added to the pool since the last CYA reading is bleach. Yesterday they kids played in the pool for hours, and I didn't add anything. That is why the FC...

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

Oh! Haha! Okay, thank you. I did a backwash in the meantime. The water was green, and didn't take long until it went clear. I will do another full test this morning and see how things are. The green is slowly going away.

Well, that seems simple enough (the deep clean). I will go do that first, then look into the DE option next. How do I make sure that the filter is isolated from the pool plumbing? Where do I find the DE?

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

No, I have never opened the filter. I only just learned how to switch it to waste to help drain it this last week! I will go research and see what I can find out.

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

Okay, this mornings test for OCLT, FC: 13.5 CC: .5, I'm sure it would have been less had I used the larger water sample. It just barely had a pink tinge to it. The water is a cloudy green when the pump is on. When off, it all settles to the bottom and the water is clear. So I'm confused. If...

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

I added one more gallon of bleach before the sun went down. I tested around 10pm, FC is up to 13.5, CC is at 0. I will test again first thing in the morning and report the OCLT results. I will also pick up 2 boxes of borax to bring the pH up where it needs to be.

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

Thanks Texas. I do plan on getting the CYA lower still, and will probably do another drain on Friday, and work on the other levels and filtering until then. For the slam... If my CC is less than .5, and I pass the OCLT, do I still need to SLAM? Or by virtue of having any green in the pool a...

New owner, just opened pool. Help!

I still have about 12" of water left to fill, but here are today's numbers. FC: 10.5 TC: between 0 - .5 there was just a slight hint of pink pH: 7.0 TA: 90 CYA: 90! More like 85, but someone said to round up. With 12" more water to add, I anticipate this being lower tonight. I'm thrilled...

    Teach me about my equipment?

Also, We don't have a way to "vacuum" the floors of the pool, other than a net bag type thing we attach the garden hose to. So that's only good for large debris, not the green algae gunk on the bottom of the floor. So if I were to purchase something to attach to the skimmer, or pump, or...

    Teach me about my equipment?

I know nothing, so I took some pictures in the hopes that you could tell me what they are (to put in my signature), and to make sure they are appropriate for my pool. My pool is a 28' octagon, 3' for 1/3?, then quickly goes to 6'. I guessed it to hold around 20,700 gallons.
