had a swamp but now have milky blue

That is what I thought. So is it borax that will raise ph without raising TA too much? I know that I do not want to add baking soda as that will reverse what I have already done (lower TA) by adding acid.

had a swamp but now have milky blue

So I am trying to raise the Ph by aeration after adding muriatic acid to lower TA and CSI to clear up the pool. It seems to have worked... the pool is MUCH clearer now. My question is, how low can the TA be for aeration to be effective to raise Ph? Currently my TA is 80. Will aeration raise...

That is very helpful. THanks Jason! I put another quart of muriatic acid in the pool last night and Presto... the pool was really clear this morning! Once I aerate to get the PH back up, I think I will finally be able to turn off the filter for awhile. Will keep you posted.

That sounds reasonable. When you say "low Ph and TA" what does that mean exactly? As you all have told me, the numbers are everything! How low can Ph be before it starts to hurt my Kid's eyes?

had a swamp but now have milky blue

Well. The only way to say it is that this forum has got me 90% to a clear pool. I now have been running my pump 24/7 for a month (apparently much longer than most) and have taken my pool from an absolute swamp to one where I can see the drains in the deep end but only barely. For that I am...

had a swamp but now have milky blue

ok. In the meantime I just retested my water so that I can absolutely confirm my overnight test. Added some bleach after I posted my last numbers. fc:6.5 cc: <0.5 Ph: 7.5 (not sure why this tested different than a couple of hours ago... pilot error I guess) TA:90 CH:500 CYA: 35

had a swamp but now have milky blue

So I can now see the drains in the pool but the water is pretty cloudy. current numbers are: fc:5 cc:0 PH:7.3 CH:500 TA:90 CYA:35 I put 3/4 cups of pool store DE in the skimmer and that brought my pressure from 18 to 19 psi. If the water is still getting clearer, it is happening at an...

I have seen mention of the DE added to the sand filter. However, can you buy just a little of it (like a pound). Where could you buy a small amount? otherwise, thanks for confirming my plan has no major flaws. I will report back.

had a swamp but now have milky blue

numbers when I got home last night were: fc:5 cc:0.5 PH:7.3 TA:130 CH:500 CYA:35 My FC does hold overnight and the reason my CC number in a previous post was a range is because I was using the 10ml sample and each drop equates to 0.5 units. Therefore, it is difficult to measure a small...

had a swamp but now have milky blue

I'm still filtering but think I am done shocking and have started to lower the TA. current numbers are: fc:7 cc:0.5-0.75 TA: 140 PH:7.4 CH:500 CYA:35-40 I added 1/2 gal of 31.45% muriatic acid last night to bring TA from 160 to 140. Added another 1/2 gal this morning. Am also using the...

had a swamp but now have milky blue

Bought a house with a pool that had been neglected for a year and half. Started cleaning it up about a week and a half ago using methods I read about in this forum. First scooped out all the muck, then tested water and got TA and Ph right (though now TA too high), then started shocking with...
