    Does anyone run two filters?

I don't remember, it was years ago. I decided it was a load of garbage within a year, but that's no longer the point. I'm doing maintenance on it each year like you two. Again, not the point of the post. This is great advice for some people, but we show signs of algae by mid-April, and we...

    Does anyone run two filters?

The algae issue is typically only at pool opening. The rest of the year is it just garbage and sediment from wind and general pool activity. Skimmer basket socks don't seem to help too much other than cotton from cottonwood trees which was wreaking havoc on me for awhile. I test chlorine levels...

    Does anyone run two filters?

We have a 16x32 AGP sanitized with bleach. We currently run a Pentair 342001 1.5HP VS pump and a Hayward EC50AC DE filter. I went to DE years ago after we just could not get the crystal clear water I wanted using sand. Based on everything I'd read, the DE should be able to last several years...

New AGP build. Looking for Feedback.

Jumping jack on the bare soil, plate compactor on the gravel. The soil has to be rammed into place, whereas the gravel has to have the vibration factor as well to get the particles aligned and locked together.

New AGP build. Looking for Feedback.

The first couple pictures aren't great, I was taking them for another purpose but they do show part of the progress. First pic includes the outside ring which is soil cement underneath, and at the time of the picture had an inch or two of AB3 base compacted onto it. The grayish looking area...

How's this AGP setup looking? In the early assembly stage:

I built my 16x32 oval on screenings (stone dust). I did not use gorilla pad, I used 3/4" foam board insulation (foamular 250), but I did set it right on top of the compacted gravel. I duct taped the seams and cut to fit inside the track. Came out very nicely. If your gravel base is compacted...

New AGP build. Looking for Feedback.

Funny you say that, I actually don't have a background in earthworks. I spent all last winter and spring reading everything I could so I wouldn't screw up my build. I knew I wanted to raise it and that I didn't want it to fail. Even after all the reading I was nervous going into it. Overall I'm...

New AGP build. Looking for Feedback.

Here's my experience building on a built-up site. My pool was originally built in 2000. They cut into a slope to build it, but ended up actually slightly below grade all the way around, resulting in the trough holding water and rusting the track. When I rebuilt the pool this year, I wanted it...

    pool out of plumb

It almost looks like the site was leveled with sand. A sand base for the track and uprights is a major no-no since sand washes out VERY easily. When they're out to fix it, make sure it's built on soil and not sand.

    Rigid PVC plumbing question

I think you have a couple of options. Option one is to use a short length of flex PVC at the skimmer and return jet and join that to rigid PVC a foot or two from the connection - that would give an area of pipe that has flex. Alternatively you could use Fernco couplings. They are not pressure...

Help with water between liner and base

I thought about boring a hole, but the trouble is that per the pool instructions, the base is dished out to about 1" lower in the center than at the tracks, so the water is accumulating in the middle and would not run out the edge. I have considered trying to get a small diameter tube between...

Help with water between liner and base

Hi. I finished rebuilding my 16x32x48 oval a little over a month ago. I built the pool on a built-up, compacted gravel screening base. I covered the base with rigid foam insulation, and gorilla taped all of the seams. The foam coving is gorilla taped to the wall and also the foam base. Our liner...

    Liner fit

The side that stretched is the east side so it got sun all afternoon. I've drained it almost empty again tonight. Tomorrow I'll dry it out with the shop vac and do my best to center it, then start refilling at around 6 a.m. on Thursday right as the morning sun starts hitting that west side. Do...

    Liner fit

Hi, looking for the voice of experience on a liner installation. I rebuilt an above ground 16x32 oval. It's an older pool and I had to use instructions from a newer model, which the pool store said was the same structurally. Turns out it wasn't, and my pool ended up 16.5 feet wide instead of 16...

Does anyone have experience with an AGP from MGK Pools

Hi, my wife and I are planning to (hopefully) replace our 18 year old Doughboy with another pool this year. The old pool is 16x32 and, long story short, it has to be retired. I've done a lot of looking online and found MGK pools, MGK Pools - Provider of Premium Above-Ground Pools Accessories...

Doughboy pool rebuild - help and advice - long post alert!

Long day today. Made some progress, but not as much as I'd have liked. The grass grew about 6" into the gravel around the pool, and cutting that out and shaking the gravel from the roots was a pain and took awhile. I did get about 2/3 of the way around, down to dirt. Here's the east side, the...

Doughboy pool rebuild - help and advice - long post alert!

I got started last night. Not a lot to show yet, but slight progress was made. I cleared out all of the flag stone landscaping, and continued with gravel removal. Here you can clearly see sun shining right on through under the track, and my beloved sand washed out and mixed with mud.

Doughboy pool rebuild - help and advice - long post alert!

We have a nice, warm, calm day today, so we're planning on doing the entire dis-assembly after I get home from work today. While I'm at work, my lovely wife is labeling all of the parts with a number and masking tape so it goes back together the same way. I'm also stopping at the quarry to get a...

Doughboy pool rebuild - help and advice - long post alert!

After consulting with a pool builder with 25 years ABP experience, I have a good but tedious path forward. Basically he said that the manufacturer's recommendation to not build up low spots is based on an assumption that if they said it was OK, some people would just toss dirt in the low spots...

Doughboy pool rebuild - help and advice - long post alert!

We are on 3 acres, so theoretically there is space. However, the layout of our land doesn't really facilitate it. Plus, I'm not really fond of rebuilding the deck if it can be avoided.

Doughboy pool rebuild - help and advice - long post alert!

Thanks Casey. Yeah I'm sort of dreading it. Waiting until it dries out sounds best even though at the rate the weather's been going, that might be July or August. We've had 3.5" of rain in the last 24 hours, which washed even more of my sand away with it, and rain in the forecast every day for...

    Platform for kids??

Pauls234 - that is awesome. I've been trying to figure out how to rig something up for my 3 year old, and this looks like a great start. Thanks!

Hey there! New to the forum here. I'll start of by saying this will be a long post...I tend to be long winded, and don't like to leave out any details (though I'm sure I'll miss something that one of the resident experts will want to know). I started lurking last year after we were ready to...
