    Cloudy can mean dead algae?

Cloudy is after the stuff may be dead. Mine was cloudy for 3 weeks after it was slammed. I wait for rain water as I have a well, and need tons of water to flush it out with. It's as good as ever now. Cloudy doesn't mean algae. At least if it's a blue ish pool and white ish cloud. 1...

Just getting started...did my first full test

Your numbers are good. You don't need CH in a vinyl pool. TA could go up more if you choose. I keep mine around 70. Just seems to work with the water here. Just keep chlorine in your pool, and you should be good

    Filter sand... Where to buy?

Thanks. And back flushing can take a cup or so out at a time... at least is what I read and the last time i had it opened it wasn't as full as it should have been... so don't need much. just want to top it off. I know it never runs out of usefulness. Will go look again.

    Filter sand... Where to buy?

I can't find it at my local lowes, or home depot... the best thing I have found is play sand and I am sure that can't be right (I have not bought it for the filter) Is this something I may have to go to a pool store for? Or is it some kind of gravely sand? and is at the hardware stores? Just...

    Stumped

Interesting info, thanks. A lot is from the roof as i have a well... so when it rains it pours :) Guess i need to filter it a little more before it goes in... hmmm. and the rain water was from a bucket on the side of the pool after it rained, it was the only water in it.

    Stumped

yea. i guess i blame this time on the rain... the other times were what stumped me. As in hot and sunny, no rain, and it would go up in a week. I notice it when the FC drops a lot in a day for no reason, I check the PH and it is way up.... It is plaster and built in 96'. Will lower it...

    2017 Bleach Prices

Ollies has it for 2.99 for a full gallon of 12.5%... going there tomorrow with coupons, so should be 10% less at best. been getting 8% at Aldi for 2.80 a gallon. Was waiting for Ollies... Seems all the companies have raised prices this year as Ollies was 2.50 last year.

    CYA newbie mistake

Thought to post this earlier, but forgot. I think I get what was wrong now. I tested it thinking the rain water just mixed with the old water without ever running the pump after winter, and when i opened it. So I guess the new water sat on top of the old so it was 10, then it mixed, and...

    CYA newbie mistake

PS. The first test was outdoors with bright sun, and the tube filled all the way up, just slightly cloudy could see all the way to the bottom. the next one was indoors with room temp water, but the dot disappeared between 80 and 60... kind of right at 70. using indoor lights and some outdoor...

    CYA newbie mistake

Ok. so last year it was around 100 CYA. pool store and me not knowing anything got it up that high. So 50 is probably correct as I drained half the pool for winter and let it fill up. Water was 59 degrees so not freezing when I first tested it, and the tube filled up and was just slightly...

    CYA newbie mistake

Wish the laminated card would say use room temp water for the test, instead of just on the extended directions on this forum. Since it seems to be a major thing. Pool is perfect... beyond perfect other than CYA... I thought it was 10, added some to bring it up... read the directions on here...

Am I expecting too much from my pool cleaner?

That looks complicated for it to clean... They do hit most spots, but sometimes skip over others... esp with the way that pool is made I bought a leaf bag to clean out the big leaves myself, best purchase I have made this year... then let the cleaner get the rest. I have a polaris sport. I...

Closed it myself! Hope it works

Edited.... No air lock as far as i Know... I can probably go back and try again, but have heard ball valves may not hold totally anyways... and i have no real way of using anything else to keep it as the pipes are locked in place for good... Being I am sure I got the water out of the first...

added some polyquat cause we get warm and cold weather mixed a lot... Was pretty easy really... Took about 25 mins to put the cover on... (with help of my father in law) Drained it below the return lines about 2 feet total with the main drains so i could blow those out with a shop vac... put...

    PH rises like crazy

did the math, seems i need more calcium chloride. TA is 70, Calcium is 225... though it is around there as the dropper seems to give me issues, and get air in it when i try to drop the drops. -.26 CSI Guess it is good?

    PH rises like crazy

They did have me throw in 50 lbs of cal hypo at the beginning of the season as well, so the calcium number was quite high. maybe that explains some of it? Or am I not understanding?

    PH rises like crazy

Weird. I swear you hear everything and then some on here in some form or another. Lower it to 7.2 to slam cause it works better... but with CYA it doesn't... So... a slam is a slam no matter where PH is?

    PH rises like crazy

Thanks. I think by the end of the year it will be down to around 50 by time I am done adding stuff. Chlorine does work better when the PH is lower... which is why i am trying to keep it down... so then i can slam before closing. it just goes up so fast, and high that it takes a bit of acid...

    PH rises like crazy

I think it will stay 7.8... but i think last time it got up to like 8. something... so it keeps going up and up. id aim for 7.5 or .6 if i could get it to stay.

    PH rises like crazy

I was more just posting how it is going... I already know the answer. Maybe I should change it to, the effects of a pool store, and fixing it from here on out. I know TA doesn't jump up. I don't think I said that? The PH keeps jumping up cause of high TA. I haven't filled it with well...

    PH rises like crazy

I was talking from the beginning of the season for the pool store... they had me add like 2 bags of baking soda. And the reason I don't really care about ALK is everything i have read on here is... if it keeps jumping up... it needs more acid until it is stable. so.. till i see it is...

    PH rises like crazy

I have probably put in 7 or 8 gallons of muric acid this year. I don't know or really care where ALK is. I know it is not 0 and it is under 100 from the last test, and 3 gallons of muric acid added. I must have the most alkaline rain anywhere. I had PH at 7.2. after 2 days of rain, it is...
