Everyone here recommends kits like the taylor-k-2006 but I guess not the guidelines that come with those kits? I usually follow the guidelines that come with the kit for all chemicals. I try to stay within the bounds.

Just clean it, it's life. Duck and geese poop in my pool, I just clean it. I occasionally clean out a dead mouse, live turtles and frogs from the pool. Luckily no snakes yet.

Thanks, I've read that before. I guess I'll try all that but it's at the bottom of the pool so "holding it there" is going to be kind of tough. It's also on the slant. I'm not draining the pool to get it, it doesn't bother me enough to spend 1k on water. If it's organic I guess I'll have to wait...

Ok, thanks. They are very cheap so I'll probably get one. The only thing I can see is if water got in there and expanded and somehow ripped it. I suppose UV could fade it or cause dry/cracking but that could happen in summer too.

Yes, the heater is working fine. When I turned the gas heater to manual mode (ie, not bypass operation) everything seemed to work ok, with it being only 250 (wish we had installed a 400, considering they aren't much more expensive) it gets about a degree every 90 minutes.
