    Vacuum Hose Length

Hi, I have to replace my vacuum hose, so I measured a very old one I am using. It measures a little over 42 feet with no stretching of it. Does any one know if this is a 40 foot hose that stretched, or a 45 foot hose because it might stretch to that length? Thanks Chris

    Hot Tub disposal

Hi, I have a hot tub that is pushing 20 years, that I am contemplating getting rid of. It is a big 7 person tub with an acrylic liner. Is there an economical way to get rid of this myself, or do I just bite the bullet and pay (hundreds?) for someone to remove it. I am thinking of cutting it...

Trim piece on stair Gasket coming off

Hi, I had my liner replaced two years ago and now either a trim or an edge of the stair gasket is coming off. I am attaching two pics. Algae and debris are getting in the slotted area, but I could remove it if I brushed it hard. Does anyone know if this is just trim and no problem or if...

Nut for band on old-style hayward DE filter

I looked through here, but could not find an answer. Has anyone found a replacement or work arobund for a stripped nut sleeve for the band on the old style Hayward DE filters? I would hate to have to buy a new filter because of a $10.00 part. The body and grids are in great shape. Thanks.

    Check Valve Problem

I have a flap check valve, about two years old, after my filter, which feeds into a three way actuated valve for my solar heater. (see pic) I believe it has a one pound spring. This year when the pump is off and the actuator is in the off position, the valve leaks a small amount of water out...

Air leaking out of return plugs

When closing this year, I have air leaking out of both of the return plugs after blowing out the lines. I tried a new plug, but still have the issue. I use the screw in plugs, and tightened hand tight and when it did not seal I tightened it slowly all the way, but both continued to leak. Do I...

    Jandy Check Valve for Solar

I am replacing some plumbing on my pool, which includes the check valve for my solar panels. I was going to replace my ball check valve with a Jandy check valve, as I read here that they have significantly less resistance. However, Jandy instructions say that the check valve should be used in...

    Install of replacement jet internals

I have to replace two waterway jet internals on my spa - a cluster storm and a polystorm. The jets have a cutout on the side of the back. I have attached a picture of one. Is there a way to tell which direction the cutout should be installed? I have a feeling it has to do with aeration and it...

    Does Muriatic Acid Lose Potency?

I was going through my mother's garage and I found two gallons of muriatic acid that my father must have brought home. He died 10 years ago. I don't want to leave it there and I figure a good and easy way to get rid of it is to put some borax in my pool along with the acid. However, I have...

Slightly used Tristar .5 hp motor available for cost of shipping

I have a four year old .5 hp Energy Efficient motor for a tristar pump that I used about 1/2 a season available if anyone wants it. (.99 total hp) The pump was too small for my solar panels so I upsized to a 3/4 hp. It has been kept indoors and is in excellent condition. I had to rebuild my...

I have Balboa control and heating on my 6 year old hot tub. It is the system with two sensor going into the heating unit and no other sensors. I recently got the "Sn" code and the spa will not turn on. My owners manual confirms that the spa will be disabled if the Sn code displays. Since it...

How do you blow out the lines?

I want to put my hot tub to sleep for a couple of months this summer. I looked around, but didn't find a good description of how to blow out the lines. I have two pumps, both accessible, with drain plugs. Do I blow them out from the pumps? Alternatively, can I just go up to 20-30 ppm on the...

    Spill-Less Clorox not real bleach

I bought several gallons of Clorox that was labeled "Spill-less" in bottles that look just like Clorox. There is nothing on it that says it contains sodium hypochlorate, it says in small print it is a "patented formula," it says "not a disinfectant" and when I put some in a small fountain I...

    Bulkhead Fittiong Leak in Progrid

I am scratching my head on this one. I had a small leak from the bulkhead fitting - not the variflo valve, but from the fitting the valve attaches to. I tried to tighten the bulkhead fitting some more, but the leak increased. I took the fitting out and the o-ring looks brand new. Reinstalled...

    Union for 2 inch variflo

I am replacing my 1.5 inch vari-flo valve with a 2 inch valve. The old valve had specialized hayward unions going to the pump and on to the plumbing. Should I purchase a set of Hayward unions for the new vari-flo valve, or would a set of standard 2 inch male to female or male to slip unions...

    Pump electric usage comparisons

I have begun looking at replacing my Superpump with something which could give me electricity savings. I saw that my 1.5 hp superpump flow rate curves match almost exactly with a full rated .5 hp whisperflo. I then went to the maximum electricity used in each. The Superpump says its 1.5 hp...

    Combined Chlorine in Hot Tub

I recently fired up a new hot tub. As with the pool, I am using bleach and muriatic acid to keep numbers in line. (No need to raise ph yet.) I am having trouble going to 0 with combined chlorie. It stays around 0.4 ppm after several shock doses of bleach. Is this normal or do I just have to...
