    Temperature concerns

Pool is open and want to get the pool testing underway to get the balancing done. Are there any concerns with water temp affecting the results in the TFP kit?

    Possible Leak??

Opened the pool today from its winter nap and got everything up and running. I did notice that the returns in the stairs were not blowing any air in the flow stream but other than that no issues. The plumbing in the cabana is showing no drips so thought all was good. After a few hours of...

FC, pH and prep for closing

Hi Folks, Getting close to closing time here in Southern Ontario. My heater is off for the season as I wait for the water temps to be comfortably below 60°F which will be in the next couple of weeks. I am still continuing to monitor my water and have left the SWG on it's lowest setting. My FC...

    CYA testing variability

I am finding that my CYA testing results seem to be variable and am looking for a "best practice" discussion. I tested my pool on July 31 and got 60ppm Since then I have added 600g of dry stabilizer (7ppm) and tested at ~ 65ppm I tested again today and have attached the pics going from 70ppm to...

    Unusually low pH

Trying to help a neighbor with his pool. Extremely low pH (bright yellow). His Stabilizer is high due to stabilized pucks (70) and I have his FCL at 6ppm now. Added pH up but little effect. Testing with my TF test kit so comfortable with the numbers. Suggestions or comments?

Pool Heater Bypass - In season

I redid all of my plumbing in the off season and installed a bypass for my NG heater. Mostly so that I can bypass it in the startup season until the water is balanced. My water is now sitting at 85-87 and the heater is set to 82 so it will not come on. Is there any advantage to bypassing the...

    CSI opinion

Hi Folks, Just looking for an opinion on my current CSI. My PM numbers look good and the pool is probably a little cooler than typical but the CSI seems low which would indicate corrosive? Vinyl, SWG and Heater Thanks

    LM2-24 Cell issues

Having issues with the above cell. As you will see from my logs I am using the cell and not getting any Cl increase from it. When I first started it the Cl increase was reasonable for 24hrs of service and now the Cl is dropping even though I have increased the % output and even tried another...

Hayward H250 ED2C Service LO preventing heater from firing

I am getting a LO alarm which I understand is related to flow and affects the PS. Here is what I know, With flow through heater 1 - PS is open circuit when checking continuity on the PS connectors. Should this be closed with pump running? I can verify flow as I have a check valve on the...

    CYA Delay

I am using CYA granules and have added 1.8kg of about 6 that was recommended on PM. I just had a store test (I know...) which is still showing 0. I am not concerned about their reading as much as I am their comment. They said..."do not add more if you have already added as it takes 2 weeks to...

    Borates and TA

I am interested in the comments about the benefits of 50ppm of Borates however I have also read that using 20 Mule will increase both the pH and the TA. I can address the pH with Muriatic but lowering the TA seems to be a tedious acid/aeration process. My TA is currently sitting at 60ppm and I...

Sand Filter media - Is this normal?

I have attached 3 pictures of my Sand filter media. I have no basis for my assumption but this Sand does not look "normal" to me. One - it looks extremely coarse and 2 - it is not the color I was expecting. Hoping some of the Pro's on here can provide some feedback as I get set to start up my...

    Correct numbers for SWG pool

Hi Folks, Loving the site and hope to get many years of useful info from all of you. I have had issues in the past with my SWG pool and am told that my chemistry is off. I have read the "Water Balance for SWG's" article and it seems to be contradictory with regards to the "ideal numbers...

    Heat Exchanger Repair

Probably reaching here but it appears that I have a leak between the Copper tube for the Heat exchanger and the stainless face (with location tube). The copper tube is likely brazed into location and it is this brazed that is leaking. I was thinking of JB Weld but was concerned over the...

Heater Bypass - stagnant water question

I am redoing my plumbing and going to add a 3 way valve to bypass the heater and a check valve on the outlet of the heater. My question is if I was to bypass the heater for say 2 weeks while away what effect does the stagnant water in the heater have on the heat exchanger if the water is...

    Heat Exchanger Cleaning - Internally

Not going to reply previous posts but I have a heat exchanger in a Hayward H250ED2 that is only a year old and showing significant signs of corrosion. I have to replace the flow control valve as it broke and am considering cleaning the internal surfaces of the tubes and wondered if anyone has...

    Proper Bonding Needed

Moved from old thread HERE ATTN: @Pemolis Hello, just read your thread and I am in the exact same position and wonder what you did end up doing? My pool is not bonded and I also would like to protect as much as possible and digging under the concrete pool deck is NOT an option. Thanks

    Premature Failure of Hayward H250ED2C

Hello, I had a new Hayward H250ED2C installed in 2019. The HX leaked in 2020 and was replaced at cost by Hayward. No warranty as they claimed that this was a "water chemistry" issue. I firmly deny that claim as I am a Type A person who is meticulous about my pool chemistry. I have a full...

    Bonding - Arghhh

Apologies if this is not in the correct forum but here goes. I have an inground SWG pool that was installed in 2003. I know that the pool is not bonded. How do I know that... my in deck ladder supports have "dissolved" and there is no bonding wire coming into the pool shed which houses all...
