    Polyethylene Discharge Hose

Does anyone use this harder type hose for backwashing? We've always used the softer, light blue stuff but it gets holes in it so easy... Thanks.

Anybody ever leave the solar cover on for the winter?

We live in Colorado and the air is very dry. We use a winter cover however have had issues with the pool draining to just 12" due to evaporation. We open to crystal clear water every year and were wondering if anyone, in freezing country, has ever left the solar cover on under the winter cover?

I'm not sure I can do anything about these developing wrinkles...

We are filling after a liner replacement. Did everything as right as we could do. It appears the shop vac stretched the liner so now we have this situation going. The water is ankle deep, but I am unable to do anything about these. Do we drain and start over? Please say no. :)

Any reason not to use automotive undercoating?

I've got rust all along the bottom of the wall below the coving, where the sand touched the sides. I've scraped and scraped to get the chuncks off and now it's time to spray. Of course there are spots that will need a patch with metal.

Here's what went on behind my 8 year old liner...

I decided to replace the liner after getting a hole along a seam in the bottom last year. We repaired it but see evidence of rust on the sides here and there. We left it uncovered over the winter in anticipation of the event and it surprised us that it lost less water than in all the years we...

Should I replace the sand after clogging the filter?

In closing the pool last fall I think I did a really good job of clogging the sand filter. I thought I was going to waste, bypassing filtering, but I must have been incorrect because it stopped moving water after a while and there were a lot of leaves in the pool. We took the multiport off but...

Is this liner price too good to be true or just good?

    I'm making it a career researching a new liner. Ugh. Prices for a 25mil/gauge 15 x 30 oval beaded liner range from $494 (http://www.nationaldiscountpoolsupplies.com/15x3ovunabgr.html ) to $299 ( http://www.linerworld.com/store/product.php?productid=765&cat=32&page=1 ) I'm only looking at USA...

Leave the cover off all winter?????

I've seen posts that say you should close as usual even when planning to replace a liner in the upcoming Spring. Due to living in the dry climate of Colorado, the water level is going to drop at least half way down over winter due to the evaporation we experience. If I put a regular cover on...

    Did this slit happen naturally?

The pool started leaking yesterday and I couldn't find the leak as I was looking on the sides. Is it possible this type of slit in the bottom of a pool can happen on it's own, or did someone have to do this to it intentionally?

Do I want a 2 speed pump with solar panels?

We rely on our solar panels to heat our pool here in Colorado. I need to replace the pump, and found a 1.5hp 2-speed for our 15 x 30 above ground pool . It's a: 1.5 HP 2-Speed 3450/1725 RPM, 115 volts Above Ground Pool Pump - Waterway brand - With large Debri. Everyone says it's very quiet...

Hubby is in the hospital and the pump is stopping!

Ok, I'm on my own for a week and the pump is stopping and starting by itself. My friend just checked it out and it is so hot, when he poured a dribble of water on it it boiled away instantly. I'm thinking it needs to be replaced. Even though it is 100 here, it is in the shade under the solar...

How much to raise my TA...

FC 4.5 TA 50 CAL 70 PH 7.5 CYA 20-25 I use Clorox Above ground vinyl pool PH drops .2 every other day so I've needed to add Borax to get it up to 7.5-7.6. I'm thinking the TA is too low to keep it stable, but I want to do this right and not overdo it as I like adding Borax much better than...

**UPDATE** - The pool has evaporated nearly completely.

So it's Colorado and our humidity levels are nearly nonexistent. Combine that with the windiest winter on record and you get an empty pool by March. I've heard you can't empty a AGP this much and reuse the liner. It's gone down by 2/3s before, but not like this. I've thought about adding...

Rust - Now what do I do?

    I've got changing #s.

I tested on 5/29 to the following: FC 3 PH 7.5 ALK 50 CAL 50 CYA 0 Salt 850 Added CYA, a tiny bit of baking soda and Borax and my ALK and CAL actually dropped to 30 for both. I know ALK and CAL aren't important to an AGP with a vinyl liner, but I'm wondering how those low results affect the...

Which way is closed on this Pentair 2-way?

Just want to confirm which position is closed/open on this bad boy: http://www.westsidewholesale.com/review ... eview-form As we understand it, if the handle is perpendicular to the pipe it is open, running the same way (as it is in the picture) is closed. Do I have it right? Thanks.

Do I really need a pillow under the cover?

I heard that water freezes UP not OUT. Does this make the pillow unnecessary for me under my winter cover here in Colorado? I probably need a new liner and now's the time to figure this out. I haven't noticed bowing from the past 4 winters. What I HAVE noticed is liner damage/wrinkling on...

Solar cover on or off for fastest heating?

It's our first 90 degree day of the summer and the pool has been open for a week! What's the latest on how to heat the pool the fastest, cover on or cover off?

Is our air vent in the correct location

We have a new solar set up this year and it came with an air vent. I've read all the posts and have been told it should go at the bottom of the panels like we have it plumbed, but I was just wondering, since our panels are half above/half under the water line, does that change everything? When...

I need to move my sand filter/pump combo--any advice?

We need to move our StaRite Waterford Sand Filter System w/ JWP Pump (can't anything stay the same?!) due to a rebuild of our solar panel array. My husband wants to move it without removing any or all of the sand if we can get away with it. I'm afraid it may damage the spider gasket and...

Does anyone have Vortex Solar Pool Heaters?

We need to replace our hail damaged solar panels and need 4' x 8'. Does anyone have Vortex Solar Pool Heaters? http://shop.solardirect.com/index.php?cPath=21_34_38_48 I can't tell for sure, but I don't think they are the standard nipple header assembly most others are and the header is 2"...

Need advice for repair after hail storm

We had a doozie of a storm the other night that included hail and tornadoes. I'm left with 3 leaks in two of my solar panels. I'm sure the fix is an easy one...I just don't know that it is. I've got to keep them on to warm the water after 4" of hail. Help!

    Our AG pool deck

Here is a peek at how we did our AG pool deck. This is our 3rd year with it and I'm glad we did it like we did...under the railing. It could possibly have been 1/2" or so lower, to aid in covering in winter, but it isn't a deal breaker. Solar panels are on the left in the first picture...

    Pics of solar set up

After learning so much from all the brilliant people on this forum, I thought I'd share what we did at our house in hopes it helps someone in the future. Thanks everyone for all your help over the years. Pool water enters the system at the pump and exits from the filter on it's way to the...

    Dirt on the bottom

We installed our above ground pool without compacting the sand for the bottom. This will be our 4th season and I am CONSTANTLY fighting a silt problem in the nooks and cranies on the bottom. It collects in each and every dip--you can even see the different layers of sediment in some of the...

Did the water go too low?

In our effort to avoid a swamp on our cover this year, we drained the snow melt off occasionally. I just noticed that the water level in the pool has been draining a little each time as the cover is a few years old now and holey. I think we're probably 30-40% drained. Did we just ruin the liner?

    Timer/Program Memory Question

I am really excited about how inexpensively I can add a SWG to our AGP! We currently run the pump from a timer located next to the electrical panel in the garage. It shuts the power off at the house so if I had a SWG out by the pump, it too would loose electricity. Is there...

    Darn Cat!

Well, the neighbor's cat must have been walking across the cover on our AGP and fallen in. At least the cover is off the edge and in the pool and we noticed the water level was down. A day later we noticed it was very wet on the outside of the pool several feet away. We think we found all of...

    Who has a heat pump?

I am thinking of rolling up the solar panels for good and replacing them with a heat pump. I got hooked up with Marcus Miller at Poolheatpumps.com from the forum and he has sent me a ton of really great information, but what I want to know is: Who has one? Do they like it? Does it cost a...
