    Pollen or Mustard Algae?

Following this thread with interest as I too have been battling this. It has been windy here for about a week. Could it just be pollen being blown in? I don't know. About 5 days ago I was at 6 ppm FC. Dumped 5 gallons of Cl into about 11000 gallons. pH was at 7.6. Pump has been on for 4...

    CC level question

My CC is at 0.5. Should I be concerned? Water is clear. My FC is at 7.0. I like to keep it a little higher as my power frequently blinks in the summertime and the pump doesn't always come back on. If I'm at work, the SWG will not run for a day. CYA around 60.

    Chem Question

Living in SoFla, we are getting heavy rains pretty much every day now. I was a little negligent on my testing process and things kind of got away from me. No, I didn't have an algae bloom but my Cl got low due to having low salt. Got my salt up to 3200 now (using the reagant test, not the...

    Poop In Pool

This morning I walked out and noticed two turds in our pool. I'm guessing it was one of the feral cats around here (that's a different story). I scooped out what I could but didn't get it all. So I vacced and backflushed. My Cl is maintained at around 8. I'm wondering if I should jack it up...

    Need A Fitting

I am looking to replace the flex hose on my pool. I'm in need of a couple threaded fittings that would enable me to go from the 2" threaded discharge to PVC pipe. I'm not sure what the fitting is called. A 2" female adapter fits where the gray nut is attached. However, I would prefer to...

    Free FC Level

So I'm in a discussion with a co-worker who manually manually doses his pool with Cl. He does not have a SWG. I told him I keep my Cl level at around 8-10. He says, "that's too high, I wouldn't want my kids swimming in that." I tried to explain to him that those levels are perfectly safe and...

    pH and FC

Sorry for being redundant here. Curious again at what level of FC does the pH test become accurate? I know that high FC can skew the pH test. Just can't remember the level of FC. I promise I won't ask this question again. At least until I ask it again. LOL Thanks.

    Intex Copper Electrode Bypass

I want to get rid of my copper electrode housing on my Intex pool. I have read it is not necessary. It has begun leaking a little too so now is the time. Wondering if these fittings are standard sized PVC fittings/threads or if they are proprietary. I would like to just run PVC from the pump...

    Just Checking In

This is my first summer with my pool. Setup last fall and have been utilizing the expertise here to get it just right. My chemistry is doing great but I still need to work on my hard piping of the the pump as I'm still on the flex provided by the mfg. It's too hot here in SoFla to do much of...

Stabilizer Down Sink Drain!! FYI Don't Do It

I'm adding about a pound of CYA this morning. Weighed it out on the digital scale and began pouring it into pantyhose. I was doing this over my patio sink. Little did I know that one of the legs of the hose was cut out. I forgot I did that! So at this point I have about half a pound of...

    Best times for running pump/swg

My pool receives 8+ hours of SoFla sun everyday. At least when there are no clouds. I'm wondering if there is an ideal time to run the pump and the SWG. Is it better at night or day? Currently, I'm running 8 hours during the day from 9A-5P. Would it be better at night? Thanks in advance.

    CYA Testing

After a mini-SLAM, I added CYA as advised in another thread. I was at 45 and was advised to raise it to at least 60. I'm shooting for 70+ as I'm in SoFla and the pool gets lots of sunlight. Used Pool Math Calculator and added the recommended CYA. In fact, after the first dose, I added more...

    Pool Store Nonsense

So I was just at the pool store getting some CYA. After doing a water test for another customer, the "salesman" starts piling stuff on the counter for the customer. I'm sure you've all heard it before, "you need 8 ounces of this and a pound of this and then some of that and come back in a week...

    Cl Concentration ??

Yesterday my neighbor asked me for some help with his pool. He's been using a pool cleaner service but his water is kind of jacked up. I used my TF100 test kit and showed him his results. He needed more Cl. I use the pool calculator and find out he needs 4 cups of Cl. When I go to his jug...

    Drinking Pool Water

So we're approaching storm season again here in SoFla. Last year, after Irma, we didn't have our pool. We were without power for about 4 days. I'm planning ahead this year. With my SWG pool, without power for a couple days, obviously there will be no chlorine generation and no filtering...

    Mini SLAM

After being away for a couple days, I returned home to see a slight green in my water. Checked the FC and it was around 1. Not sure what happened while I was away. Pump was still running at 4 hours/day. I've brought up FC to 10.5 with liquid Cl. Not sure if my SWG is functioning properly...

    Titanium v. Copper Electrode

Can somebody explain to me the difference between the titanium and copper electrode? If I clean one should I also clean the other and is the process the same? Also, how can I tell if my CG is working properly? Thanks.

    Need 1-1/8" ID Hose

Still trying to retro fit my Intex pool. I need 1-1/8" ID flexible hoses for the suctions (skimmer and filter inlets from the pool). Of course they need to be semi-rigid because they are suction hoses but flexible enough to bend. None of my local home stores carry such a thing. I've been...

    Intex Hard Pipe

I know this topic has been visited here. The photos that were posted originally have all been taken down by Photobucket. I'm now trying to make sense of all this. As is typical, I have a suction and skimmer attached via the hoses pictured. Without taking them off and measuring, I can't...

    Max FC Level

I completed a SLAM a month or so ago and am very happy with my clarity. My pH is maintained well as is the other chemistry. But I still have some organic stuff falling into the pool. I'm skimming daily and vaccing every 2 or 3 days. I'm curious how high I can keep my FC without too much of a...

    SLAM Complete

So my water is gin clear. Still have a little debris on the bottom as it has been windy here and have fair amount of organic material dropping in. I've been vaccing daily, except for yesterday, worked 24 hours. Filter pump has been running for about 5 days. Will vac again today even though...

    SLAMed and still have algae

I've been at this for almost a week now. I started a SLAM on 2/25. Brought my FC up to around 25 for 3 days. It fell to 18 on day 4 and I brought it up again. Been vacuuming every day. On day 3 I was finally able to get my pH down to 7.2. Prior to that it was in the 7.4 to 7.6 range. CYA...

    Pool Devil With Intex

Received my Pool Devil today. Having some difficulty figuring out the attachment to the return. Here's the fitting I have on the pool. Can't figure out how to get the nut off that holds the ball valve. Tried putting a pump plier on it but didn't want to turn too hard. It didn't budge...

    Pool Devil With Intex

My father has an inground installation and uses a pool devil. The device seems to do a decent job of capturing surface debris. His pool is screened and mine is not though. So there may be difference. The pool devils are not readily available in my area. I'm also curious about the...

    Intex Vac Problems

I have found that the Intex vacuum system pretty much sucks...no pun intended! It doesn't seem to be very effective besides just stirring up the stuff on the bottom. Sure, it grabs some bigger leaves and debris but I'm still left with stuff on the bottom. Making the connections and assuring...

    TF Kits S/H

I don't have any problems supporting this site or TF Kits. I've gleaned lots of great info from here. But man, $14 for S/H on three small reagant bottles is pretty steep.

    FC climbing

I'm pretty comfortable with my chemistry at this point. TA may be a little high but I'll let that adjust. Yesterday, FC=6.5 pH=7.6 TA=90 CYA=60-70 Today, FC=8.0 pH=7.6 TA=100 Currently my SWG runs for 5 hours a day. I will dial that down to 4 hours tomorrow. I'm wondering though, for a...

    Why is pH increasing?

I have added NO chems yet my pH is increasing. Yesterday my pH was 7.8 and today it is 8.0. Did the test twice. My TA yesterday was 130 and today it is the same. We did receive a healthy amount of rain yesterday. My FC was 6 yesterday and is 6.6 today. I'm guessing I need to reduce the...

    Taking a bath in pool

Years ago I lived in an apartment complex and after a long day at work I liked to take my shower kit down to the pool and have a nice bath. It was usually late and nobody was in the pool. I would not do that if others were swimming. Of course at the time I was not the "pool guy." This was a...

Water Balancing 2.0 (or maybe 3.0!)

So after several days of fussing with things, I'm at a point that I'm pretty close to where I need to be. At least I'm closer now than I was before.:D FC=2.5 pH=7.0 TA=120 CH=130 CYA=70 I read the balancing page. So I need to raise my pH but lower TA. Pool Math recommends putting pH at 7.0...
