    Blocked pump outlet?

I recently changed the lower housing on my Pentair Clean and Clear Plus filter due to the drain plug threads being stripped. When I put everything back in place and restarted the lid to the unit literally blew off about 60 feet. The threads for the band to attach the top to the bottom were...

    Lightening strike

5 days ago we had a lightening strike. There were multiple casualties but the direct hit was to one of my pool pumps. The pump, the control panel/breakers, the breaker at the house supplying the pool and my Dolphin Premier vacuum are all toast. I also had damage to over 400' of aluminum...

    Elevated CYA, FC not dropping

I recently over shot a little (ok, a lot) when raising my CYA. I've drained some water and it's down to 110. My FC continued to rise despite me turning my SWG down every day when I checked parameters. 10 days ago I turned it off and my FC has not budged from about 10 where it peaked at 2...

Where did you guys buy your Taylor K-2006C test kits?

I purchased one from a third party vendor on Amazon and it came with the DPD containers open all the powder spread throughout the kit. Fortunately Amazon refunded my money and let me keep the undamaged parts of the kit. I then ordered one from Pool Supplies Superstore and it came exactly the...

pH rising about every 10 days

After a pretty long period of stability my pH has started rising about every 10 days. I add muriatic acid to pH of 7.2 and aerate. My alkalinity drops as expected but bounces back up in just a couple of days with out adding any. Evaporation is pretty high (temps in mid 90's here) and I...

Balanced but out of range parameters?

My present parameters are: pH 7.6 Alkalinity 100 CYA 70 Calcium 360 FC 5 salt 3360 Water temp 80° CSI is -0.07 which is great. Should I correct my out of range alk/calcium or just monitor and correct if CSI gets out of balance?

    Should I lower my alkalinity?

Current parameters FC 5.4 CC 0 pH 7.6 alk 87 (I'm using a photometer instead of my test kit) calcium 340 CYA 80 Temp 64° CSI -0.35 I'm not badly out of balance am I? I over shot on adding alkalinity and have lowered it from mid 90's to current level. Should I hit the muriatic...

Pentair diagnostics says salt level is zero...

When it's 3800, verified by several other tests. SWG is working and generating chlorine just fine. Green light on the IC40 says normal salt level also. Any fix for this problem?

CSI, Pool Math vs kit's slide rule

Why such a large difference? My parameters pH 7.6 FC 5.0 CC 0 Alk 90 Cal 380 CYA 80 water temp 60° The stupid slide rule says +0.05 and Pool math says -0.32. That's a pretty big difference. Definitely going with the PM numbers but wondering where the error might be in the slide rules...

    Post Slam questions

I recently completed a SLAM (8 days ago). My CYA before was 55 and now it appears to be about 25-30. What would make it drop that fast? My current parameters with a water temp of 56 degrees are : FC-17 CC-0.0 TA-85 CH-360 pH-7.2 Obviously no swimming with these water temps but we do...

Will high FC levels affect the color change of alkalinity testing?

In the process of a SLAM and checked my alkalinity this morning. The color change still occurred at the same point it did before the SLAM but instead of turning to red it turned to a golden yellow.

    A couple of slam questions

We have had almost 15" of rain where I live over the last 10 days. Needless to say because of that (having to let water out of the pool 5 times in the last 10 days) and not being able to check on my chemistry for several days, my free chlorine dropped to zero. That and the warming water has...

    Complete newbie, cyanuric acid/salt questions

Brand new pool (3 months old) and first time pool owner. I've just found this site and I'm going to implement the methods outlined here. I just have a couple of stupid questions to start with. My cyanuric acid level is only 40 (bad advice from the never to be used again pool store) and I...
