Stumped - Never ending SLAM, Dropping CYA?

Long story short - I procrastinated too long and let the FC in the pool hit .5. Water was still blue, just a TINY bit cloudy. Started the SLAM. Been at it for 6 days. I have slammed twice before (once with VISIBLE algae) and it's never taken more than 2-3 days to successfully finish the...

Salt Sale (Houston) - for those needing massive amounts of salt post Harvey

High PH causing scaling... How to keep it down? How low can I go with alkalinity?

I am tired of fighting with high PH, and am starting to see scaling (or at least I assume it's scaling - it's white patches that won't come off with a metal brush, and fizz with acid) if I don't stay on top of the muratic acid daily (using a quart every other day, if not daily). Because I know...

    Wall brushing robot?

Let me start by staying that I really can't complain (much) about our pool. We thankfully have a lovely in ground cleaner that I can't say enough good things about that keeps our pool 99.99% clean. And given we live in a forest (literally) that's really saying something. The one thing it does...

    How do I reduce TA

Moderator comment: This post was separated out from another thread: This is SOOOO what I am looking for! How EXACTLY did you do this? I need steps. For dummies. :) I am dumping 16oz of muratic acid in DAILY trying to keep my PH at 7.6. I have high PH fill water (8.2+), and new plaster...

    Invasion of the pests?

I never knew there were so many June bugs in our neck of the woods until I turned the pool lights on one night, and they literally chased us out of the SPA. There must have been 30+ land in our tiny SPA (or on us!) in a span of 5-10 minutes! I've never seen anything like it. Is there some...

Adding Acid Daily... Is this normal?

I've read plenty of threads saying new plaster will cause PH to rise and stay high for as much as a year. And if the filter is on water is dropping 12 inches out of my SPA via 3 12" wide spill overs which it's doing 10-12 hours a day every day... So I am sure the aeration doesn't help either...

    Best place to get chemicals?

Thankfully the pool builder left us with a pretty nice startup kit that's kept is in chemicals for almost two months. We are however starting to run low on muratic acid, and need to buy baking soda, bleach, borax, etc. Figured I'd just grab most of it at Walmart, but one of my neighbors...

Raising TA & Measuring Muratic Acid

I need to raise my TA by ~30ppm which comes out to about 10lbs of Baking soda. Is it okay to dump it all in at once, or should I do this in phases over a couple of days? How much of a bump should I expect to see in PH because of this? Sounds like "not much" but I haven't seen any numbers...

    Getting Chlorinator Set-up

Builder officially turned the pool over to us on Tuesday and turned on the inline chlorinator (CMD PowerClean) for the 1st time. They hadn't been using it during setup. Our chlorine level was at .3 so they cranked the chlorinator up pretty high, and then told us there was no need to do...

The Pool Builder did it. (DE in new pool)

Hi, folks! Clueless first time pool builder/owner, here. Plastered (pebble sheen) last Saturday. Acid washed and started filling Monday - done on Wednesday. Came home today (Friday) and I could hear water running into the sewer tie in. Called the builder - they've been working on startup...
