Does anyone use the new bleach tablets?

I just noticed these last night when I was buying some 8.25% at Wal-Mart. The bottle said it would make the equivalent of 182 oz of liquid bleach (assuming that's 6%). It was $2.97 vs the $2.98 for the 128 oz of 8.25%. This seems like the way to go if it really does equal 182 of 6%. Less product...

Am I using too much chlorine?

I was talking with a pool owner and I mentioned that my pool "uses" about 4 ppm of chlorine every day and has been consistently at this amount as long as my CYA level remains ~40-50. He seemed shocked that I use about one jug (182 oz 6% until the new 121 8.25%)per day, which for what I pay for...

    Temperature effect on Chlorine usage

My pool is up to 86 degrees and my chlorine usage has increased to around 4-5 ppm each day. Am I getting algae or is the increased sun angle and temp causing this? I check every evening with the FAS/DPD test and raise with bleach to 8ppm. The next evening my reading is 3-4 ppm. A couple weeks...

    Anyone use an EcoJet robot?

I am looking for a robot and the EcoJet seems like a good deal - if it works. It uses water jets instead of brushes and only climbs up to 60 degree walls but I mainly want the bottom and slanted sides cleaned. Does anyone have one of these with slanted walls and does it climb them adequately?

    Pool volume

I'm not sure if I'm using the correct # for my volume. 18 deep x 36 wide x 5.5 avg depth ( 3 in shallow and slopes to 8 in deep end) x 7.5(converting from cu ft to gal) = 26730. Then multiply by .85 for sloped walls in deep end = 22,720. Is this correct? I realize this isn't exact but am I in...

    Swimming after shocking

I had a small amount of algae and shocked last night. Assuming my FC holds this morning will it be safe to swim today? I've heard conflicting answers - a)less than 10ppm is safe or b)as long as overnight FC tests OK it's good to go regardless of FC level. Shocked to 16ppm, CC was 0.5, CYA-50...

    Everyday chlorinating with bleach

I bought a house with a pool last August and with the help of the board and pool school eventually got rid of the Baquacil. I am currently using the last of the chlor tabs and plan to clorinate everyday with bleach (I already use it to shock) How many ppm should I add each day? I realize it will...

    Sand in pool after backwashing

I recently bought a home with a baqucil pool and after converting to chlorine changed the sand in the filter. Since then when I rinse after backwashing, there is sand in the sight glass. Also when I initially switch to filter (after backwashing) there is sand coming out the returns for about...
