    Cloudy water wont uncloudy ..

Just a thought here but Ive seen the O.P state several times that his "low salt" light is continually on. Id guess that one of your problems in the beginning at least is that your SWCG could have not been generating anything when you were running in "super-chlorinate". Mine has a 4 level...

New IG pool owner, looking for plumbing best practices?

Im not crazy about those sections of clear flexible hose clamped on there. Some may be ok with it but I think it looks sloppy and is a prime spot to develop a blowout (and you know this would happen when nobody is home and end up running your pump dry and wrecking it). And yes I would...

    Struggling with numbers

My pool stays around 7ppm FC with a CYA of 35-40 and we all swim in it with no problem.

    Why CYA is lost

I would think so. Im guessing there is a problem with the test in some way if everything else is staying stable

where to put the sock full of CYA?

I hang my sock in front of a return.

    Why CYA is lost

Are you having to add a lot of water to the pool? Maybe have a leak?

    Why CYA is lost

How are you testing your CYA? Are you using a TF kit or is a pool store doing it?

    Why CYA is lost

I was always under the assumption that CYA is really only lost due to backwashing and splash out.

    Struggling with numbers

Also I highly suggest getting a test kit of your own from TF testkits. I bought one a few weeks ago and it really helps knowing where you stand.

    Struggling with numbers

Im certainly not an expert as Ive only owned our pool for about a month. But that CYA seems really high to me. And if your are using an automatic feeder and you only have TC after shocking then I would guess you arent really shocking the pool at all. I guess with kids spitting and likely peeing...

    Raise CYA?

The pentair doesn't on it's own. I've heard the ones with inbuilt timers are unreliable though (the timer).

    Raise CYA?

Yes I figured that. I'm just not crazy about installing a timer at the moment

    Raise CYA?

Well after several cooler cloudier days my FC today is 12. Guess I'm going to have to get a timer on that pump or just start turning it off at night in the meantime. Doubt switching to the 3/4 hp pump will make any difference running it 24/7. They ordered the wrong pump so it will be installed...

    Problem conducting FAS/DPD test

Im fairly sure that DPD powder is the chlorine indicator, so my guess is that you don't have any chlorine in the pool. Algae?

    Raise CYA?

I'm planning to add one. Looking at the aube Honeywell digital at the moment. Thought I would give my electrician buddy a breather after getting my swcg hooked up. I wish they made a timer that would replace a standard switch that was rated for that service load. Be much cleaner looking. Not...

    Raise CYA?

Yeah I know. I don't currently have a timer though. The pool gets full sun from morning to night. I was actually afraid the fc would be a lot higher.

    Raise CYA?

Just got my tf50 kit today and have my results. Wondering if I should raise my CYA or not. I run an IC40 swcg in 20% output all the time and I'm happy so far. Results: FC 7.5 CH 140 CYA 35-40 CC 0 TA 90 PH 7.8

I agree. It's ran for two days now without so much as a hint of a problem. The builder called this evening and will be out either tomorrow or Friday to replace my pump with the 3/4hp so I hope it works just as well with that. I'm not worried though, I think it's going to be fine.

As far as shortening the life of it, I can't really see how it could make a difference either. Water balance and on-time are the two major things that dictate cell life according to what I've read on the subject. You see a few companies that sell systems where the cells are plumbed with two...

Yes it calls to have a straight run ahead of it. I suspect this is to have as laminar flow as possible as it enters the cell. It wasn't really feasible with my setup though. I don't see any way that it could effect chlorine production though. As someone above said; it's most likely to give the...

CompuPool Control Unit :Flashing all LED's and LCD display!!

Re: CompuPool Control Unit :Flashing all LED's and LCD displ Is it set up for the correct voltage? Ive read posts of people who have wired up a control unit to 220 that is set up for 110 and vice versa. Just a thought. Id call compu pool regardless if the unit isnt super old. It seems their...

    Sand Filter

I have the same filter and recently got a good look at the bottom while dumping and refilling with new sand and I can also say with confidence that there isnt any opening. It is a solid molded plastic tank but the shape of it would allow anything leaking around the multi port valve to run down...

Please help me get rid of the ducks

Probably unrelated but where I work we have large compressor buildings and get pigeons that like to roost in them because they are basically giant sheds with no walls only roofs. We have to call in the state wildlife people and they set up air cannons (C02 powered I think) to scare them away...

    Too much pump??

My wife and I couldnt be happier with the whole process. Had one hiccup with the decking being poured, the concrete truck driver decided to help the guys doing the work and dumped a wheelbarrow of concrete right up against a stryroform cantilever form bowing it out and separating it from th pool...
