Adding irrigation valve to use as fill valve

Just went out there to see what I could find. Everything is buried except the valve, but here are two pictures I took. The ball valve is literally just there in the dirt and mulch. I would need to dig up the line to see where it actually goes, but I cracked the valve open for a few seconds to...

Adding irrigation valve to use as fill valve

I do not have that yet. It's raining and pretty sloppy out there so I haven't been able to get this yet. I can tell from here that it is in the ground though, because there is nothing above ground at all.

Adding irrigation valve to use as fill valve

I have not seen this either. When I say it goes into the filter, I mean it goes into the plumbing that then goes into the filter. I would have expected it to be plumbed into a return line so it would go straight into the pool, just like putting a garden hose in the pool. This does not...

Adding irrigation valve to use as fill valve

So my builder ran a water line off of our main after the water meter and before it goes into the house. The line has two ball valves on it, one right after it comes off the main and the other right before it goes into the pool plumbing that goes into the filter. I want to hook this to my...

    Another "First water test" post

I must have some old chlorine. I put in enough to get my FC to 3.5 three days ago. Just tested and FC is only at 1.5. I guess it's a good thing it's too cold to swim.

    Another "First water test" post

Been out of town for a while and not able to stay on top of everything. Just tested again and my FC is at 0. Gonna add some liquid chlorine to try to get it back to 3. Even though it's near freezing outside, am I expected to lose chlorine from the sun in the winter still?

I was suspending the sock in front of a return. I think I'll toss it in the skimmer next time. The date code on my chlorine is "22PV24211 07:27:28AM" and it's from Lowe's. My FC is actually up to 3 today so what I put in last night must have helped.

I'm trying to get it up to 75. I'm just having trouble getting it added to the pool. The stuff just doesn't want to dissolve. I was squeezing on the sock a good bit, but my hands can only take so much 55 degree water at a time. There's gotta be an easier way to do it. Still trying to get my...

    Another "First water test" post

Got pH down to 7.8, FC up to 1, and CYA up to about 10. Added more CYA and liquid chlorine tonight. Will test again tomorrow and see where to go from there. It has rained here for literally a week straight so I'm assuming that has something to do with the levels moving as well.

CH is up to 300 now, but pH has gone back up to 8.5 and FC was at 0 on latest test. I added 3 pounds of CYA today and will keep everything running for 24 hours now. I'm guessing I will need to add some more chlorine once the CYA comes up.

pH was at 7.5 2 days ago. Added chlorine yesterday and tested everything again today. pH: 8.2 FC: 1.5 CC: 0 TA: 60 CH: 100 We've gotten a lot of rain lately, but I'm not familiar enough with it to know how that affects everything. I guess add more chlorine and muriatic acid?

    Another "First water test" post

Taking it one step at a time until I get more familiar with things. I added 55oz. of muriatic acid earlier today while everything was running. Just tested again and the pH is down to 8.5. Put that into the app and it told me to add 60oz to get it to 7.2, so I just added that in. Letting...

...and one more thing. Should I even bother with adding salt? Temps are going to be consistently under 65 probably until spring now, and I believe that's the limit for the SWG to run.

Thanks so much for all the info. One thing I forgot to add to the original post. I noticed the filter leaking today so the builder told me to just turn everything off today until he can get back out to adjust it. He's currently out of town until Tuesday so I'm thinking everything will be off...

    Another "First water test" post

First water test on new pool. Pebble was put in on 10/26 and the builder has maintained it so far. Temps here are 60's during the day and anywhere from 50 to 30's at night. Did my first water test today and am not really sure what I'm looking at. We plan on keeping it open during the winter...

    Choosing cleaner for new build

Man this is all great information. Thank you all for the information and opinions. Expounding on this, I see one feature that is touted by all of the robotic cleaners: water line scrubbing. I'm assuming the Polaris 280 can't do that because it's just not "smart" enough. If running the...

    Choosing cleaner for new build

Just went out and looked at the equipment that's already been installed. Looks like the plumbing and booster pump are already installed, but nothing is bolted down on the pad. When we picked out our tile back in June we were told we didn't need to decide on the cleaner until later. The work...

    Choosing cleaner for new build

I'm leaning towards the robot. So I'm trying to decide if I should just go with the Polaris 280 that is included in the build and buy a robot cleaner on my own or upgrade to the Polaris Alpha IQ+ for $900 from the builder. Will probably come down to comparison of warranties.

    Choosing cleaner for new build

We're having our pool built now and have been given several options for automatic cleaners. I've done some reading about the cleaners. I'm sure there are differing opinions but I generally see the robotic cleaners recommended over the cleaners that require a separate booster pump. Our build...
