Gravel backfill - Check my math please

Appreciate the input! I'm assuming the calculators are right so it was the way I came up with the inputs as much as anything. It seems like subtracting the area of the pool from the area of the hole the best way to figure the area I need. It's the assumption that 32" of height that I wasn't...

Gravel backfill - Check my math please

Could someone check my math? I'm coming up with about 50 tons of #57 gravel to back fill my overdig. That seems like a lot... I've got a True L that's 18x43x28 with a mostly 30" overdig. That would make the hole roughly, 23x48x33 which would be 152' of perimeter (I think). So my trench is...

    Gravel calculator resource

I've spent some time looking for a gravel calculator that would let me pick a specific size gravel. (#57 in my case) Thought I'd share. KW Trucking Mr. Mulch Gravel and Aggregate Calculator | How much gravel do I need Patio Supply

Day 5 - continued The excavator showed up around 10AM and took his bob cat... Said he needed gas and wanted to grab his forestry attachment to clean out my honey suckle after he's done digging. Just sent me a text saying he won't make it back out today but he'll drop it this evening to get an...

    DIY - Poolwarehouse build

I my case, I'd still still be a couple inches deep on the bottom itself.... I've pretty much decided to use 3/4 gravel to bring it up and level. How'd you block up the gaps under the walls? My deepest overdig areas are on the shelf. It might save me some gravel to use block.

    DIY - Poolwarehouse build

Day 5 Today's Monday and I'm on hold until the dig is done... The excavator took yesterday off which I'm good with. Saturday would have been a 3 day dig. I wanted it done to build walls over the weekend but it's tough to tell a guy he has to work on Sunday! He over dug by 2-8" everywhere...

Screwed up my elevation... Any ideas?

I just hung up with the Pool Warehouse tech line. (Great guys and I highly recommend them!) They said I take a big chance of having issues if I back fill due to expansion from freezing. I asked if I'm ok if it's deep enough that it won't freeze. They said, "no problem at all if you're beneath...

Help a total newbie out with design ideas

A lot of pool conversations can end up sounding like a Ford or Chevy argument. Ultimately, it comes down to what works for you and your family. I'll offer what I did any why. Feel free to do with as you'd like. Our old house had a pool. Our new one didn't when we bought it 3 years ago. I'm...

Screwed up my elevation... Any ideas?

I appreciate the detail! I'd like to walk through this some. You said "if you have clay use a geotextile fabric on top your compacted sub base...". I do have clay. When you say "compacted sub base", are you referring to clay or gravel? (So, compacted clay then fabric then pool crete or...

Screwed up my elevation... Any ideas?

So dropping the surrounding grade is the safest and cheapest option. (That might create some drainage issues on the house side that I'll have to account for.) My excavator ain't gonna be happy... See any other ideas that I'm missing?

Screwed up my elevation... Any ideas?

Just realized I didn't include my overdig in that. With the 30" overdig, it'd be 1,334 sq ft. 17 yards. $2,295

Screwed up my elevation... Any ideas?

    954 sq ft. If my math is right, that's 12 yards at 4" deep. $135/yd = $1,620

Screwed up my elevation... Any ideas?

So I messed up... I just dug my entire pool at 46"... When I go to lay my decking, I'll have 4" of topsoil in the way once I get 30" away from my walls... (past the overdig) The excavator will be back this afternoon to finish up and the only options I can think of are: 1 - Have him backfill...

    DIY - Poolwarehouse build

Day 3 We got everything pretty close to 42" yesterday. Ran into an issue when my back yard turned out to be all clay. I'd planned on using the fill dirt to raise the low side 17". There seems to be different opinions about using clay as fill dirt. Enough so that I decided against it. That'll...

    Concrete delivery access problem

Morning all! I'm going a DIY build and I'll need to schedule my collar later today or Monday. I'm trying to figure out how to get the concrete to the pool.. My driveway is concrete and is about 100' long. Should I let the truck drive on it? (They said I can request 2 half loads instead...

    Pool crete in stages?

So my dig will be done tomorrow and hopefully my walls same/next day. I can't get the concrete collar done until Tuesday or Wednesday but I'd like to get something done. Can I do my pool bottom next? I prob shouldn't get up to the walls since the collar could push them around a bit, but I'm...

    URGENT - use of clay

I'm doing a DIY build and the excavator is working right now. I have 3'+ of slope corner to corner. I'd planned on splitting the difference. That would require that I build up the low half with full dirt to pour my decking on. It turns out that everything we're digging is clay. I've read...

I ended up adding some. 2 skimmers, 3 returns (1 in the L) and a swim up spa (6 jets). Planning on 2" PVC to go with my VS pump. PW assured me I'll be good to go. I'm tending to agree.

    DIY - Poolwarehouse build

Day 2 Yesterday went mostly ok. We didn't get started until 3'ish and then the stumps proved to be pretty stubborn. It took about an hour to get them out. By that time, my PERFECTLY placed over dig markings were totally gone... I worked to remark while the digger started on the side we knew for...

I thought so! The facebook quotes were all over the place. A few at $700'ish total. Several at $500 total. Plenty at $50/tree. The $50/tree guys actually started blasting the $700 guys in the comment section for charging so much! Lol For now, the stumps are dumped in the woods. I'll deal with...
