Pool noob needs some guidance, may have algae

You're on the right track. In order to properly diagnose this and help you through it though you're really going to need either the TF100 from tftestkits or the Taylor K2006, assuming you only ordered the stand alone FAS-DPD test kit. Combining your current test kits you should have what you...

So quick update on my pool. Everything is going fantastically still. Everyone has been in and out of the pool and loving it, daily testing makes keeping this thing sparkling clear a breeze, couldn't be happier. Hence the reason I added that awesome little badge last week. Also have a new...

It was already done, was just waiting on the e-mail. I'm sure TFP staff had better things to do last night. ;) Proud owner of a shiny new badge here. TA took a flying leap to 90 in my test last night, didn't exactly believe it so I retested....sure enough. 90. Guess its time to watch the PH...

That's awesome. Its a combined effort right? First it was me doing the research, you guys helping, and all of us having success. Now I am trying to be a part of the effort to help others, so if using this as a success story is helpful to others...WIN! As for the TA and PH, thanks that is...

Just opened pool can't see the bottom

As Slinky mentioned, first steps first. Test kit, you need a TF-100 or a Taylor K-2006 (either one will do, the TF-100 is the recommended kit by this forum). This is the most important thing right now. With this you can accurately test your pool levels and the forum can help you turn that...

Phoenix Newbie Here - Suggestions Appreciated

Arizona represent! Starting to heat up around here. Agree with Trip, the CC is the biggest immediate concern. Are you sure the FC test went totally clear? If the OCLT test recommended above doesn't pass, its time to SLAM. Post some pics if you can, lets see what you're working with.

    Cloudy Pool

Just stay on top of that SLAM and in no time you'll be there, also be sure to maintain the once or twice daily brushing and/or vacuuming. I recently completed a SLAM as well and my results couldn't have been more pleasing. As many around here will tell you, don't stop until that water is 'gin...

Project Lower TA still in progress. Started at 140, hovering between 100 and 110 now. Color change starts at 100 and fully saturates at 110. Progress! What's my ultimate goal? I know the 'range' is 70-90. Everything else is on track. Step pics really aren't needed anymore since I'm not...

Dropped the PH to 7.2 last night, checked again tonight and TA was down ~20ppm to 120. Project Lower TA is working. Forgot to turn on the aerator last night so I did that this evening, will hopefully cause this PH to rise faster and speed things up. :) (See, I've been doing my reading!) A...

Perfect! When you want it to be clear so badly...its really easy to tell yourself its clear when its not. In retrospect if someone had consumed gin that cloudy, there may have been aftermath.

New Home/Pool - No Experience - Seek Help?

We don't do the whole pool opening/closing here in sunny Arizona, but I will tell you based on my experience here, you don't need to hire anyone to teach you how to use your pool. Post some pics of the pool and the pad where all the equipment is with specific pictures about your "what the heck...

They are happy that is for certain. Numerous comments about how clear it looks, and its already been used a few times. That's going to turn daily here shortly as school is wrapping up and the 100 degree days officially began yesterday. I think they'll be even happier when the pool stays this way!

First and foremost. What in the name of all things have you people done to my pool!!!!!!!!!! Its... Its.... Its..... FANTASTIC!!! Second, Patrick you called it. I started doing daily tests and watching PH, it started drifting upwards after about 3 days and hit 8.0. I've added acid twice...

Oh, thats really good to know. My liquid chlorine stays in its own space on the back patio (shaded), but I was contemplating moving it to the pool shed. Guess I'll have to relocate the MA first. I'll watch the PH for the next 2 weeks and see what happens and keep you guys posted. Thanks!

So, I've only done two PH tests so far, yesterday and the day before. Both were steady at 7.6 I don't really have a big enough sample size to say if its spiking or not yet. Should I wait to determine this before working on taking it down? Also, side question. Acid in my pool shed is at...

SLAM is over. Whew. OCLT was 1.0ppm. Everything is set up so the fam will only have to do minimal things to maintain over the next few days then I'll come back and post some current numbers and figure out what to tackle next.

Today is what I am hoping is the last day of SLAM. (My electric bill really hopes so.) Been maintaining FC at 24, manually vacuuming/brushing daily. This morning was the first time the pool was what I would consider "gin clear". Pics today were taken immediately after a vac and brush which...

Pics from today as promised. Most of the color variation at this point is just attributed to the plaster. As you can see in the deep end picture, there's quite a bit of....character....in this old plaster. :) The shallow end plaster is definitely more worn and doesn't give the same color hue...
