I would keep up with the SLAM yeah, there may still be a touch of cloudiness there. You are looking for completely clear water. Once the clarity is there, then you'll need to run a OCLT test and that will determine if the SLAM is over. Looks like you will be out of this pretty quickly either...

Its there now. Maybe I was hallucinating. :) Good luck with the SLAM, keep us updated.

First time with Taylor Testing Kit

Its going to be difficult to calculate anything worthwhile for a SLAM with the CYA measurement only being "<20". Recommended CYA for a SLAM is 30 and your reading is fairly vague. Without enough CYA in the pool the chlorine will dissipate as fast as you put it in and getting it to hold FC will...

How long does SLAM take: one man's story

I think the reason TFP works is because its a long term solution, and its educating the pool owner. I have zero doubt a pool service can get my pool blue and clear, if they couldn't they wouldn't be in business very long. However using TFP I can get my own pool there, for a fraction of the...

Agreed, looks like you are ready to go! Make sure you use the 40 calculation for the Chlorine/CYA chart for SLAM levels, always round up. Get that SLAM started and let us know how its going. If you can take pictures daily looking down at the steps that would be a great way to help determine...

Lime Green Pool, $500+ to a pool store and still bad....

What's done is done, what matters is what is happening now. The good news is, no matter what the test results come back as, its all fairly simple to get back to where it needs to be. Brush and/or vacuum daily as Richard mentioned. The cleaner the overall surface of the pool is when you start...

    Another Newbie - SLAM Question

Welcome to TFP! First and foremost? Where did you get your numbers from? 77 isn't a number we're typically going to see for CYA coming out of one of our recommended tests, or even the local pool store for that matter. Lets figure out if we can trust the numbers and then we can talk about how...

    New oasis in Midlo!

Welcome to TFP! Glad to hear you've been doing reading, you are one step ahead of the pack. There aren't silly questions....okay, maybe there are, but no one here is going to judge you in the least. ;) I'm on quite a few forums as well, I think you'll find this one carries a bit of a...

Hello from TX, new guy to this forum checks in.

Welcome to TFP! I don't personally have any experience with the ic40, but there are plenty around here who will be able to help you. I spent 14 years battling my pool before I found this place recently, I feel your pain! Rest assured, you're in good hands here and you're about to realize very...

    how do I get started?

Welcome to TFP! Glad you found us, you're in the right place! So in your case since we are starting from absolute square one, I think the most necessary thing in order for us to help out is pictures. Pictures of the pool and the pump/filter setup will be a good start and everyone can start...

Jump over to Pool Math, plug in your volume you previously gave here, put in your current FC and a target FC of 5. Change the % to match that of your bleach and get your number. I could get it for you, but....so can you. ;)

I am crying. Pool leaks and Filtration problems.

Agreed, I had skimmer leaks for years due to my own negligence. Arizona sun + lack of pool maintenance resulted in cracks in the skimmer basket. Water level would rapidly drop and that skimmer would be dry, however once it got to the bottom edge of the skimmer things slowed considerably. With...

    New pool owner

Perfect, in front of the skimmer or a return I assume. Crunch those things up from time to time and help that process along, keep the filter running, and once its fully dissolved it'll be time for another CYA test. I think in the interim you could just add enough FC to raise that up to 5 so we...

How did you add the stabilizer? Don't want to start an SLAM until we make sure your CYA levels are where desired, but you can definitely put some bleach in to keep a minimum dose in there. How many gallons did you calculate your pool at?

14 years of pool stores and failure...

Santa Dave's package showed up in my mailbox! Normally don't do my full tests midday or on Thursday for that matter, but this was a special occasion. Still working on dropping TA down to 80. Its starting to change at 8 drops but not fully until 9, almost there. Then back to monitoring PH for...

Brand new guy here! Need a shopping list - Pool Pic included

You had me at 'Pic Included'. Love seeing everyone's pools...beautiful and blue or pre-TFP doesn't matter. Your shopping list is good for now, test kit! You may need CYA, you will definitely need bleach or liquid chlorine. Beyond that, the numbers will tell the story. Your pool guys didn't...

Beautiful pool, nice work. Getting really close! As noted above make sure you passed the OCLT and that the water is CLEAR.

Ok, previously green pool that is still cloudy that has no CYA and no basically no FC, an algae bloom is highly likely. My previous recommendation would still be the same. CYA & PH > SLAM.

Lime Green Pool, $500+ to a pool store and still bad....

Agree 100%. When I bought my K-2006 I at the same time bought refills for the CYA and FAS-DPD because I knew even with just my SLAM I'd run out quickly. TF-100 XL would be my recommendation, having previously made the other choice. :) The only plus side is I now have 16oz of CYA reagents and...

Lime Green Pool, $500+ to a pool store and still bad....

TF-100 K-2006 One of those two is what you need. The XL option on the TF-100 wouldn't be a bad idea either. My Amazon K-2006 took FOREVER to arrive, if I had to do it again I'd go with the TF-100. My 2 cents.

So if you're battling a green pool, you're going to need to SLAM. Read through the SLAM process and the rest of Pool School if you haven't already and familiarize yourself with the process and what it requires. You're going to need to make some adjustments to your levels before you can properly...

How long does SLAM take: one man's story

Only things that I've read is that it can cause somewhat of a gooey mess in the filter, but with a sand filter that less of an issue, and that if your cloudiness is in fact due to an algae bloom instead of just misc particles in the water it can mask that and potentially flare back up. I was...

So maybe this boils down to differences in color perception. I'd call that pink based on the lighting of the picture and a viable starting point for your CH test.

New to the Forum and I love it! Ran my first test...

You cannot possibly over document, this is golden information. Seems like you are doing everything almost perfectly. Just remember, as stated earlier, if you target FC is 20, the goal is to not let it dip below 20 so don't be afraid to aim a little bit higher when you add. Below 20 and you're...
