    SLAM Q

Thanks everyone. Verified my CYA as 45 just now. Ironically I'm running out of DPD powder (eep). Also - do you all recommedn walking around perimeter of the pool slowly putting in chlorine then throwing it acrosss the pool in increments? I do it this way to focus the chlorine around problem...

    SLAM Q

Heya all, About maintaining FC to shock levels - does this mean adding chlorine in bright daylight or waiting until night to "bring it back up" to shock levels? Also I forgot to test pH before I started, so unfortunately it's possible my pH is like 8 or something. But in the future, if I were...

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

Hi Cant'play Good to know! I'll get an After pic up here soon. I'm confused about the 33 as 40 and 40 as 33 :/ Little confused which is which? The Test repeatedly said 40. The way you describe, is exactly how I conducted it :) I'm just lost how I aimed for 33 and got 40....seems like tryign...

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

Hey all! Last question from me probably: How often should I test the Chlorine, CYA, and pH levels? I tested my CYA/PH/TA again. PH at 7.2 - aerated a lot to bring down TA but now I know TA is secondary so not too worried. CYA was surprisingly 40! Did the Taylor test twice...The black dot just...

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

Thanks for your brilliant advice. I do fee llike I'm chasing the TA! :) It is frustrating. I haven't begun the chase and my head was spinning. Your answer makes sense. pH SHOULD be my priority - TA should be a secondary monitor to that given environmental conditions. Thank yoU!!!!

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

Thanks ! I did that. My concern is this: TA is 140 - on another thread someone says a TA that high can start drifting PH higher and require more pH adjustments. I rather work on dropping TA to about 70-90 like the calculator recommends. Thoughts? I realize I have to go to pH 7.2 and aerate -...

I use the legacy calculator as it's a bit more transparent. Do you all still recommend I try to approach the goal CH?

How much do you think I shoudl run my pump besides chlorination? Just 1 hour a day? I can do maybe 4 hours a week tops.

Interesting. When you say run the pump after adding chlorine - do you mean 30-45 minutes a day? or when I make the chlorine addition? You're the only one to give me a great plan and something I think I can definitely do! I heard "shocking" the pool when CYA is low aka CYA 0 in my pool currently...

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

Hi All... Manny - thanks for this answer. I understand...So it's either run it at least 4 hours or run it 1 hour and notice marginal gains. I suppose it makes a lot of sense! Also to @cantplay - thank you and I understand. I do wonder if covering the pool is a good idea? I one time covered a...

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

What's that one choice? lol Also if you mean the picture - that's just completely arrogant. That happened as a result of me not putting chemicals in it and the CYA being through the roof to the point I didn't even bother AT ALL. Are you trying to say even if I bother, but it's not up to your...

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

I mean again I get you're trying to help - but it's up for interpretation or you didn't clarify it enough with details for me to consider otherwise. Even if I can't afford a pool now, your responses are really not contributing anything other than telling me to "fill it up." OK. But you should...

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

Great advice, but the last part is nonsense. You assume I came into it with no money and went "durp I don't want to maintain it." Situations change. Clearly I have to prioritize. But I agree - I wouldn't buy a luxury car if I had no other money to drive around with it. That's assuming I started...

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

Pool has been drained + cleaned & chlorine rinsed. Now....I'm curious - I read not filling it up can lead to plaster issues. I don't want that. So - do I have to fill it up all the way? Summer seems to have evaporated almost 1/2 the water in this pool....a lot of water $$$...... Also - what...

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

Hi everyone! Super glad my old account got merged. Now a question I wonder - the pool is drained (super algae) - I have to clean the walls with bleach and a brush. What do you all recommend? Should I even bother to refill it if I can't afford to run the fixed-speed pool pump more than once a...

Oh apologies to all. I used to have another account here: CaptainJackHarkness - but for some reason no email is registered to it! I own a Taylor K-2006 test kit. Thats how I measured my values. I don't trust Leslies.

Need help with my pool - and questions about testing

Hey All, 1. Somehow my pool has a CYA of 250 [been using dichlor trichlor for years (was none the wiser)] - I decided to drain most of it (smart or not?). I realized CYA 250 is way too high. Also a lot of my water (40%) evaporated in this summer heat...is this normal? Anyways - I'll be...
