Solar Covers - Above Ground vs Inground

I have an in ground pool and am looking for a solar cover. I found this one that is close enough to my size but it says in the description that it's an above ground type. I can't for the life of me figure out how there could be two types but i bet somewhere here can help me. Also, should the...

FC dropped to 15.5. Sun has finally been out all afternoon. I'll test it again before bed and see what it does overnight. I've got the Barracuda in there cleaning the floor as I type this.

Thank you for the detailed response. I will just have to exercise some patience now and trust in the plan and stick with the regiment. This has ballooned into this all-consuming task that I literally can't stop thinking about it. Every morning I eagerly hop out of bed (never done that before)...

OK. Then what FC level should I hold it at now that it's held 22 overnight? Do I let it fall back to it's normal 3-4 level or keep it at shock level? Do I wait till the pool clears before I add salt and let the SWG do it's thing? Thanks for the help everyone.

Yes, system is filtering. This morning I backwashed the filter and checked the skimmer basket and all is well.

Yes, filter is running 24/7. Everything looks fine chemically to my pool school-trained eyes. I was debating turning the pump off when I got home to see if the water cleared up any. My thinking was that would let air bubbles out of the pool (if that's what they are) or it would let the dirt...

I'm officially stumped. My FC held at 22 overnight even with a quarter inch of rain early this morning. The pool is cloudy as ever and shows no signs of clearing up after three days at shock level. I really have no idea what to do now. Last night I turned the lights on in the pool after it got...

    My before and after pics!

Thank you for posting this. I needed to see that it WILL happen... just not soon enough for me! And since it took you seven days, I may still have a few yet to go though my water didn't look as bad initially. Anyway, thanks again!

Alright, I went big and put 2.8 gallons in and tested 30 minutes later. FC is now at 22 and I brushed the walls and bottom to get all the crab stirred up again. Maybe this is working as there was FAR less stuff in there bs yesterday and even this morning. I'm also monitoring pump pressure which...

Updated the Google Doc with tonight's test results. This morning I got 11 on the FC test and added 182oz of bleach and had to get to work. Eight hours later (and not very sunny until later in the afternoon) I get home and do a test and it's back to 11. Adding another 2 gallons now to get FC...

Trust me, I'd LOVE to send you some of this rain. Here in Kentucky we usually average about 4 inches of rain in April and we crossed over the 10 inch mark last night setting a new record for rainiest April... naturally, since it's my first year with a pool.

Updated the Google Doc to reflect an additional 182 oz jug of chlorine last night before the storms hit which should have gotten FC to around 16 but I never could get back out to test it. This morning I was in a bit of a rush so couldn't get the full battery of tets done but did do the chlorine...

Good deal. I just added another gallon and two cups and of course the heavens have opened up again and we'll be getting several more inches of rain tonight. I guess on the bright side, I'll have plenty of water to vac to waste with. I will report back tomorrow with my results. Thanks so much...

Should I proceed with taking the chlorine level to 24 or is 12 enough?

My test results are in the link above or are you saying I'm missing something else? As for the cloudiness, I would describe it as white and semi-transparent as I can barely see the bottom of the shallow end... just barely.

It's rained every day for at least a week. And I'm not talking small amounts of rain either. I've had to pump about 500 gallons out twice now as the water level rose over the top of the skimmer.

I'm putting all of my test results into a Google Doc so you can see the history as well as any notes I've made. Any chemical additions in the Notes section were done immediately AFTER that particular test was taken so the results of that addition would be seen in the following line. Google Doc...

    Autopilot & Solar Cover Questions

Only two dumb questions on this rainy night... :hammer: 1. I just did a rough measurement of my in ground oval for a solar cover. It's 13'9" wide by about 34' long. Not totally positive on the length as I only had a 25' measuring tape but if its off then its only by inches, not feet. I took...

First results with TF-100... here's my plan.

I couldn't take it any longer so I ran to the big box store and grabbed bleach and stabilizer since I have muriatic acid, ph+, ph-, and akalyne+ at the house. Of course, one of the jugs of bleach was Mountain Scent so I need to take that one back but no big deal. I still don't have an answer...

First results with TF-100... here's my plan.

OK, let me see if I have this right... So I'm going to address PH first by stopping the aeration and adding around 20 oz or so of the muriatic acid I have (not sure of the exact type since I'm not at home, so unsure of the exact amount) which should get it to around 7.6. I will go to the store...

First results with TF-100... here's my plan.

I know having the jets aerating the pool can raise PH, so is it beneficial to skip chemically altering the PH for now and try stopping the aeration and see if the Ph level falls on its own or is that not normally how it works?

First results with TF-100... here's my plan.

So I've been out of town for a few days and came home today to my new test kit and rushed out to give it a try. A few background items (other than what's in my sig below)... - Pool was opened last week by pool company (cover put away, plugs taken off, etc.) - Pool company dropped six bags of...

    Normally open or normally closed?

Hmmmm.... I just assumed that gray enclosure meant it was the outdoor type but it says in the spec it is indoor rated. Looks like the unit is about 8X8 square. Any suggestions on a box to put it in? I assume it won't fit easily in a 2 gang box. I'd also like a clear door on the front of the unit...

    Normally open or normally closed?

I'm in the process of adding my pool pump to my home automation system. The technology I use is called Insteon and they have two options for switches. One is normally open and the other normally closed. Which version would I need?

Pool School vs. Salt Water Pool

That makes sense to me! I've now officially vac'd the bottom of the pool and gotten all the solids out. The water is a bit cloudy... the blue liner makes the water look like a baby blue. I'm out of town for a few days on business, but I'm ordering the TF-100 tonight so when I get back I'll get...

Pool School vs. Salt Water Pool

Now that I'm vacuuming my way to a clean pool, it's time to start with water treatment. I've been reading the Pool School, but it never mentions salt water pool applications in the tutorials and why is there no section on opening an in ground pool? Anyway, I'm trying to figure a plan forward...

First pool. Day two. How can a pool vac be so complicated?

Re: First pool. Day two. How can a pool vac be so complicate SUCCESS!!! I was doing everything correctly except letting the vac hose fill until the head or robot sunk back to the bottom. I was able to get it working on the first try and also closed off the main drai about 50% and really had the...

First pool. Day two. How can a pool vac be so complicated?

Re: First pool. Day two. How can a pool vac be so complicate Yeah, I didn't wait nearly that long. The head came up to the top of the water and a bunch of bubbles definitely came out but I didn't wait for it to fall back down, so there's a straw I can grasp at. Sweet! On...

First pool. Day two. How can a pool vac be so complicated?

Re: First pool. Day two. How can a pool vac be so complicate Yes, it's the blue corrugated type. When I finally gave up last night and pulled the hose out of the pool, it sure felt like it was full of water because it weighed a ton. So now I'm thinking maybe I just needed to backwash the...
