Decisions...deciaions "baller on a budget" in North Texas

I recommend finding someone to do your kitchen that is willing to work with your PB. Any plumbing and conduit needs to be considered before the pool deck is installed. Unless you pick a PB that does lots of kitchens. I see the gas line is not in your bid. I'd get that cost nailed down before...

Algae or ..? Can't tell what's going on.

Well, I finally decided to visit your post after you visited mine. For me, I'm convinced mine was pollen. Did you clean that filter yet? It is probably full of pollen. Mine had a fair amount, and my chlorine demand dropped after getting that organic material out of there. Good luck! This...

Central Texas Pollen - Update with Storm mess

Re: Central Texas Live Oak Pollen Sorry to all those in Central TX. I prayed that the tree dropping all the pollen in my pool would "just get it over with." It really tried. The storm last night made a disaster out of my deck and pool. It tinted the water green there was so much pollen in...

    DE Filter Question

Shoot! I did beat your record . . . And then . . . Drain and Skimmer valves open, check! Filter Drain valve closed, check. Fired up pump, and noticed a pipe in my pocket (insert wife joke here :salut:). Was the pipe in the middle of the manifold that goes from the knob that holds the...

    DE Filter Question

I tore down my DE filter yesterday to give it a good cleaning, and to see what it looked like inside. The guy that did my pool startup was a joke, and I wanted to inspect it. I never back-washed since the installation, btw. So, here is the question: Should I see non-DE junk stuck to the...

Central Texas Pollen - Update with Storm mess

Question for those folks out there battling, or recently stopped battling, LIVE OAKS and all their droppings. Be it leaves or the yellow-green fronds (apparently called catkins), the pool's nearby live oak is driving me nuts. OK. The question: I'm getting a ton of these pollen fronds in my...

How long to run Stenner pump?

Good! I'm glad it helped. I've received a lot of help on this site, and this may be my first contribution. Still in debt, though. Good idea on the hrs:mins.

How long to run Stenner pump?

My wife makes fun of me for all the things I track. But, hey, here's an Excel workbook couple of spreadsheets that will help you out: stenner calc.xlsx - Google Drive <-- download and use as you wish. Link has been updated due to some Google docs security update. The first spreadsheet "Run...

Pool Math not working for me???

Yes. It is measured in ppm. Read up on CYA. It protects your chlorine from being burned off quickly by the sun, in simple terms. This article: Predicting the rate of chlorine loss based on CYA levels is over my head. But, look at the last post. The last chart (which is for 10ppm CYA --...

Increase CH now or watch and wait?

Ah, yes, of course. I meant to include my CSI. Which I calculate at -0.18 based on my water temp of 58* F. Thanks to you both for your time!

Pool Math not working for me???

I know I'm new here. But, if you waited 24 hours between chem add and retest, I would think that the chlorine loss of 3.5 ppm in a 24-hour period is not all that surprising. Assuming, that is, you had a sunny day with no CYA.

Increase CH now or watch and wait?

Plaster was completed on 11/18, and pool fill was completed on 11/19. Been expecting my CH to go up (fill water was 175 ppm CH) due to the new plaster based on posts from this forum. :lovetfp: We got a good amount of rain 1/17 - 1/18. Here's the rub, my notes suggest that my CH was riding at...

    Actuators not moving

I had a similar issue (new pool owner here). Except for me, it just drained my spa -- at least it started to. Took me a while to realize there was a switch on back.

    Jandy PDA-PS8 and a Jandy Stealth SHPM2.0-2

Been doing a bit of Googling . . . with no luck . . . to answer this question. My Google-Fu is usually pretty good. So, I'm either having an off day due to either ignorance of proper search terms, there is little information on the topic, or I have an incompatibility. Will the Jandy PDA-PS8...

New to testing and Balancing... need a touch of guidance

I'm still waiting on having water in my pool to play with. . . But, I need to make sure I understand. If you raise to shock level and leave, that really isn't a SLAM, right? Just a SL. You're not there to AM.

New Build in Round Rock (Austin), TX - Dig Started

Chaning it out would be . . well. . ugly. We are working with manufacturer with ideas on using an epoxy paint to change it. Worse case scenario, it stays. If it is any consolation, when the Antique White Lueder coping is wet, it is tan. Disappointing, though. That is tile on the front. Kind...

New Build in Round Rock (Austin), TX - Dig Started

Time up update the photos: The raised portion of the new pour is level with the existing porch to house the kitchen so countertops are countertop height from the inside, and bar height from the outside. Seems simple now. But, when I was trying to solve the two-different-heights problem while...

New Build in Round Rock (Austin), TX - Dig Started

I did enjoy it. It's kind of amazing, really. I can't figure if chem geek would think it is elementary, or if he is such a geek about it that he still thinks it's cool. But, to me, it was like playing with that chemistry set that I had as a kid. It didn't take that long. But, I did move...

    Just got my TF-100, w00t! Fill water: FC <= 0.5ppm (barely pink after R-0870, 1 drop to clear with R-0871) CC = 2ppm CH = 175ppm TA = 70ppm pH = 7.2 pee8chinal units :crazy: . . I guess the chloramines shows as, or is, CC. . . .

Yep. That's the case. They knocked out the big chunks. They claim that they must've been semi-set chunks that splashed into the yet-to-be-set floor at the time. I guess it is possible that I didn't see them for the first day. Coping around pool is 90% complete, save the three pieces which...

New Build in Round Rock (Austin), TX - Dig Started

Thanks both. Don't worry, Kim, i emailed the pic to the PB before I posted here! He immediately called me back and said, "I've never seen that." He is no slouch. He built our HOA pool (I'm on the the board) and did a great job (much bigger job). Had to pick him when he was best bid (don't...

New Build in Round Rock (Austin), TX - Dig Started

Oh no!!!! So, yesterday was shotcrete, and I've been "bonding with my pool" as kimkatz would say. Watered late yesterday, and early this morning. Sometime after that, this happened: Anyone ever seen something like this? For clarity's sake, this is the floor, near the wall, about 4 inches...
