Closing Intex Pool for the Winter

If you look in pool school you should be able to tell. Between that and the pool calculator. People freak out that we get snow here. We have had up to 21 inches overnight one winter. And we get a lot of cold weather. Probably not near what you may get.

Hard Plumbing - Solar Heater or SWG last in the line?

I believe your solar heater should be last in line. I wouldn't want hot/hot water running through my other components.

Closing Intex Pool for the Winter

I leave my pool up all winter. About five months out of the year we have around freezing temperatures. We drain the water down below the skimmer and return. Pop in our largest ride-on pool toys, adjust chemicals and cover it.

Cloudy water and sediment with Zeosand

I cleaned my zeobrite this year. I think that's the same as zeosand. I don't think it's really necessary, but you can go to their website and see how to clean it correctly.

Where do you store your Intex pool during the winter

I leave mine up year round as well. I do whatever is chemically necessary, throw the large inflatable toys on it (whales, dolphins, whatever ride-ons we have at the end of the summer) drain the water below the skimmer and return and cover it. So far we've weathered 3 winters.

Newbie - Suggestions for removing Algae?

I agree, without one of the test kits mentioned it will be almost impossible to clear the algae off of your pool. I have the same setup as you (almost) and the money I spent on the test kit was invaluable. Pool stores are notorious for giving poor results and then trying to sell you products...

    Slippery Vinyl Stairs-Any Suggestions

I wonder if you could use those decals they use on the bottom of bathtubs? Not as nice as textured, but they have tons of styles/colors available now and you might get one that didn't offend.

Been shocking for a week, water clear, can we swim?

Ah. Pool store results. I bet your CYA level was wrong and that's why your pool hasn't cleared. :(

Off season use for your pool?

Oh and this is the one that really turned their inground pool into something. http://kilk.com/pond/ My husband used his ideas for a bog filter for our pond. :)

Off season use for your pool?

I've actually seen where they turned an inground pool into a pond and it was amazing, but I can't imagine my intex pool as a trout farm! And going back and forth between pool and pond...yuck!

Off season use for your pool?

I can't imagine how much you'd have to shock after you were finished to get your pool back to swimmable. Though I often threaten if the kids don't use the pool enough, we'll have a trout farm in the backyard. :)

What chemicals do I need now?

And why would ALEX lie? It couldn't be because the pool store can make thousands of dollars off of you, could it? No one here is trying to sell you anything. They don't have a vested interest. They are just trying to help you maintain your pool in the most cost effective, accurate method...

Re: Dusty/Sandy-like Algae (newbie & frustrated) PLEASE HELP You've come to the right place. These people here are the pool "experts". Seriously, get the recommended test kit, post your results, and you'll never have to visit the pool store again except for pool toys. Your pool will sparkle...

Black Algae is kicking my butt

Do you have a good test kit? That's the most important feature. Without it, it's very difficult for any of us on this site to give you much help. I started with black algae this summer and with a good test kit, the help of this board and a lot of elbow grease I probably have one of the...

    question about CYA and SWG

My thoughts are that a SWG is generally producing chlorine more steadily then being added in once a day. I could be wrong, but that makes the most sense to me. :)

    Found Algea around steps

High levels of chlorine don't have any effect of your CYA level. Probably adding that much shock has raised it recently.
