    DIY automation?

My 16’x36’ in-ground gunite pool is being built in Central Virginia, and everything has been laid besides coping, plaster, auto cover, and decking around pool. I currently do not have automation, but now thinking maybe I should add it as a diy project (to lower cost rather PB installing). I...

Type of mortar for SWG pool?

I am ready to place down my Travertine coping around the SWG pool. Does anyone know which "Type' of cement mortar I should use for the grout between and on the bottom of the coping? I was thinking of using the Workrite Masonry Cement Type N since it has the color that I like and would blend...

Foggy window in Jandy TruClear Pro salt generator

Is the Jandy pump controller window susceptible to the same potential moisture and fog build up? I have one that is out in the open with no cover. Is there a way to prevent the potential fog or moisture in the window of the controller? I'm not sure if a shield over the unit where water can...

Install Travertine deck now or wait until Spring

Thanks for the suggestion. Glad to hear that they cleaned up everything. I would not want a mud pit if I can help it. I'm just waiting for the coping & tile to be set first since then hopefully the deck people can come by. I have the pool people doing the coping & tile, and another contractor...

Install Travertine deck now or wait until Spring

I plan to install a dry-set travertine deck around my pool. We live in Virginia. The travertine coping will be install in approximately 3 weeks. The plaster for the gunite pool will not be installed until in the Spring due to the temperature. I was wondering should I have the deck people...

Where to place electrical outlet on pool deck, and control for autocover?

Thanks! That is a good idea to make it look more polished than just a 2x4 with the outlets out. Yes, if you don't mind in taking a picture of the front of it when you get home, that would be great!

Preventing Hayward Colorligic LED light from leaking

Thanks for the bump. I'm just getting a little worried that the LED lights will begin to flicker and go out much earlier than the LED bulb going out on its own. Any ideas or experiences with this LED light would be appreciated.

Preventing Hayward Colorligic LED light from leaking

I am currently getting 2 Hayward color logic LPCUS11100 LED lights installed into my new pool. I have heard that they may start to leak or malfunction after a year or two. Are there ways to prevent them from leaking before they are installed so that they will last for a long time? Is there any...

Where to place electrical outlet on pool deck, and control for autocover?

Yes, the outlets will be connected to the pool equipment. Are your outlets on pedestals around the pool? My deck is flat with no other type of close landscape wall or shrub except for a bush at the far corner (20ft away from water edge) where I plan to hide the Jbox. How should I have outlets...

    Another New Pool - N.Houston

Your pool design looks great. Are you planning to lay your Travertine pool deck in a dry set or a wet set? I am in the process of my pool being built and I am leaning towards the dry set method vs a concrete slab. I'm living in Virginia and trying to make a decision.

Opinions needed about coping grout color & sealant

I like the way you are thinking. Another good thought, but we did not get one. We figured that having an autocover on during most days and just opening it up mid to late day will help the pool retain some water without evaporating too fast. We hope.

Opinions needed about coping grout color & sealant

Good point. I contacted the PB in regards to that question and waiting back to hear from him for clarification. I'll keep you informed. Any thoughts on weather to get it sealed or not? Anyone had any experience with that? We do not want a wet look, but the natural look along with...

Thanks for the comments. I went to the store and I'm thinking about the second from top grout in the picture below. What are your thoughts? Will that look good with the tile as well along with the Travertine coping?

Edging & Base for Travertine Pool Deck

Hello all. We are putting in an in-ground gunite pool (16x34) and will have 2in. Travertine coping and 1.25in. Travertine paver (French pattern) deck with a 5' x 25' Travertine walkway using the dry set method. Instead of a concrete slab (just in case of any future leaks, it may be easier and...

Thanks for the information! This is very helpful! Lots of things for me to think about and burn more cash out of my pockets!:D I do like the lighting around the pool, so I probably will invest in a larger transformer to accommodate my potential new habit.;) - - - Updated - - - Thanks for...

Where to place electrical outlet on pool deck, and control for autocover?

Thanks for the info on the key switch. I haven't heard of too many people with the keypad either, but it is an option. I may go with the key since it seems that it would be more reliable and less likely to cost a lot if it would break or malfunction in the future. Unless others have used a...

Where to place electrical outlet on pool deck, and control for autocover?

Those are very nice lights! I'm getting the itch to go for these, which would spruce up the look and give enough light to see where I'm putting my feet at night. I could not open your photo attachment. Could you please resend? I'm a DYI'er so I may try for one of the kits and install myself...

Where to place electrical outlet on pool deck, and control for autocover?

Thanks for the suggestions! Our J-box will be about 8-10 feet from the edge of the decking on the 7ft. side. We have a large bush there and the thought was similar to you, where we could hide the J-box; however, I think it may be quite far to place the other electrical outlet there unless we...

Where to place electrical outlet on pool deck, and control for autocover?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, they plan to follow the code; however, they said that it could basically be anywhere outside of the 5ft perimeter of the water in an enclosure. Thinking if they put the one outlet on the flooring within the deck on the 7ft side, should I ask them to place right...
