New Heater Installed, Water Pump not circulating anymore at low speeds

I should add one more observation. even at 2000 rpm, one of the jets (even though I don't know how things were plumbed, it is the farthest from the pump) has no water coming out... increased to max 3250 and now there is water in all the returns.

New Heater Installed, Water Pump not circulating anymore at low speeds

We have recently had a gas heater installed. Pentair model. I know for heater to be able to heat the water, you need to have the pump running faster. But I didn't expect it to affect the operation of the water pump in any other way in normal operation when not heating. I have noticed the...

Turning on SWG creates a white stream in the returns

I had attributed the 'bromine' reading on the stick to that prodeuct. their language is a bit confusing and they don't disclose what they have in them clearly so i'm glad to hear i am not mixing both and screwing up my chemistry even more - phew! So i guess my test strips, as you said, are...

Turning on SWG creates a white stream in the returns

Fair enough, it has been a struggle on my end as well, trying to make sense of various results. and I understand I won't be able to accurately execute any protocol without a test kit.

Turning on SWG creates a white stream in the returns

BioGuard Smart Silkguard sticks - I believe they add bromine and chlorine together. And that is based on test strips only. I don't have my own test kit yet. have been relying on a combination of test strips and test lab results from companies in the area.

Turning on SWG creates a white stream in the returns

it is Chlorine. The Bromine got added from those Sticks I used (and will probably not use again)

Turning on SWG creates a white stream in the returns

the white spray still has not fully gone away, but clearly our salt level was not right. Aquarite reporting lower and lower numbers as time went on. which means SWG was trying to run with too low salt...added bags of salt and now it is 3200. So a follow up question : CYA for salt water pool is...

Turning on SWG creates a white stream in the returns

Hi guys, In general new to pool ownership, 2nd year. and this year I opened the pool myself. Now that the water is warm enough (19 C - 67 F) I started the SWG. After a minute of turning it on, I get a white / cloudy stream. I read some articles suggesting, maybe air leak, maybe low CYA...

    Solar blanket recommendations (incl. liquid)

well, i cut it into 4. basically 4x "8x16". I realized I don't have a good sense for when to put it on/off. Even with 4 pieces, it is not something I would want to deal with on a regular basis. My wife said she prefers having the pool uncovered, but there will be times we want it covered. We...

    Solar blanket recommendations (incl. liquid)

just received a 16x32 8mil for a 18x36 pool . no reel. unmanageable :) :) as you must have guessed. planning to cut it into four (from the middles) so i can get a better handle from the edges of the pool .

Trouble w/ pH and CYA level recommendation

so finally, here are the numbers from 2006C : FC : 5.5 pH : 7.7 TA : 130 CH : 170 CYA < 30 (2006C cannot measure it) I started with thread with some numbers (especially pH that we could not lower - which in later conversation we decided wasn't that critical, at least for now) and the fact we...

Trouble w/ pH and CYA level recommendation

I haven't adjusted the runtime. Seeing that I was losing FC, I had increased the SWCG level from 40% to 60% on the Aquarite before I had posted on the forum. Oh, btw, the test I ran last night didn't cause much loss of FC, which seems to suggest I don't have much organic matter attacking the...

Trouble w/ pH and CYA level recommendation

One / Two :) questions : 1. If I start SLAM tonight, when can I realistically swim? 2. When left unattended (3wks, only SWCG running), what is the likelihood that I will need to SLAM again when i get back. Thanks :)

Trouble w/ pH and CYA level recommendation

OK. quick search on Canadian Tire revealed : Ro-Tyme 20 Daume (31.45%) Muriatic Acid. 4L for 14.99$. Aquarius Pool Water Stabilizer. Not sure what is in it. 900g for 12.99$ Aquarius Chlorinatic Liquid. (10.8% sodium hypochlorite) 5L for 5.19$. OK. products available all around.

Trouble w/ pH and CYA level recommendation

so having a low CYA will help :) at least for the SLAM part... I understand a bit the 'buffer' concept. so for the short term, if 7.8 pH is acceptable, I will not worry about that and focus on SLAM, considering water is still cloudy. Wondering those, assuming i can do that and get to the...

What is Step #1 ? CYA up to 70%, then adjust SWG so that I can maintain FC at 5 ?

Trouble w/ pH and CYA level recommendation

Thanks everybody. The reason I am here, asking all these questions is because I want to understand how the TFP way works and get off the pool store wagon. I was very disappointed what they said, what affect the products they gave had (or not in most cases), etc. Especially hearing that a high...

Trouble w/ pH and CYA level recommendation

Hi there, I got a 2006C testing kit from a friend but also getting the water testing by our local shop (for those who know Ottawa, it is Purewater). I have a salt water pool, with a Hayward Aquarite SWCG (T15 cell). it reads the salt level at 3000. 1. Running at around 40% (SWG setting), we...

    Solar blanket recommendations (incl. liquid)

I see... So back to what sktn77a was saying about heating vs. heat loss. There is relatively small gains to be made I guess from using a blanket. Possibly extend the season by a week or two. with slightly more comfortable temperatures. But really, one would need a heater for our region...

What is the idea behind cutting it into smaller pieces? So basically each piece floats side by side with each other? pool is 16x32 I believe. Rectangular. 8 pieces? 4 pieces? Thanks

    Solar blanket recommendations (incl. liquid)

Hi there, We are in Ottawa, ON. Weather is cooler in May and even in June with showers. E.g. we are expecting a week of rain on/off this week to give an example. Temperatures are around 20 C(68F) during the day, and 12C(55F) during night, and we don't have a heater. Wondering how effective...

New pool owner and a mysterious pool

So that accumulation before impeller was the culprit of 2 returns basically not getting enough water flow. Water pressure was so low I guess that It couldn't push it any further than the first return (assuming that one is the closest in how the pipes are built) I am curious to see what the...

New pool owner and a mysterious pool

Update this morning, Last night as I was taking pictures for Jim, I was also reading the manual for the pump and I believe the area that you can reach in after removing the basket is where the impeller can collect debris. There WAS debris there which I removed with my finger as best I can. It...
