    Phosphates Debate

Dirk & Riley If you read the Application Section in Lee's post it warns of cloudiness and increased filter pressure, so one would assume that it "converts" the phosphates into something that can then be filtered out.

    Green pool despite chemicals

Liquid Chlorine is typically sold by the gallon, prices vary from one locale to the next. It's something you need to source locally, as most places don't ship it. Try Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes even your grocery store (Bleach, NOT Clorox, scented, spashless, etc) When comparing prices you need...

    Constantly Slamming...all summer

Before you refill it next season, call your water department and let them know you are filling a pool. Many jurisdictions will waive the sewage fee, but they all have different requirements to allow you to get the credit.

Can anyone recommend a digital tester?

From that site, it appears that the Poolmaster test kit does NOT test for CYA, FC over 5ppm or CC. Not to mention how much other misinformation there was on that page. There is no digital tester that will allow you to perform the tests necessary if you want to use the TFP methods as...

    Phosphates Debate

Hmmm...this seems unlikely, with the average reported loss of 2-4ppm of FC per day in the hottest months... even the low end would burn 14ppm per week and it seems it only takes many folks on here just a few days to drift down from shock levels after a SLAM.

What is stronger, a lemon or a belly?

Dirk, Just to be clear I was in NO way insinuating that you would shirk your supervision responsibilities. It's just my better safe than sorry mindset. But you gave me an idea for a great invention... problem is I'm not sure how many folks would be as concerned as you to make it worth developing.

What is stronger, a lemon or a belly?

Just curious as to why you feel the need to "test" how much damage could be done by the suction port... don't you already know it's a danger? I know you are concerned that you will forget to put the vac back in the pool... when you take it out of the pool, is there a part of it that you could...

Can anyone recommend a digital tester?

If your pool/hot tub is an acrylic shell, I think fiberglass would be the best choice. After you setup your pool tap the "check mark" in the upper right to "save" your Pool Setup. You will also do that to save each log entry (test results, maintenance, chemical addition, etc.) That should...

    Cya mystery

I wonder how much impact method and filter type has, I recently added 4lbs. (HTH Brand) using the sock method (actually used 2 socks suspended on separate strings and it worked really well because they kept beating against each other so I didn't have to knead/massage them much) and got exactly...

Anyone have a suggestion for main drain bubbler?

Just a thought... I don't know how many bubbles it would produce, but maybe you could fish aquarium tubing down through the main drain pipe, pull it out through the main drain cover and attach an aerator stone. Then use a fitting in the main drain pipe similar to what is used for a Stenner pump...

    Smelly swimsuits

Yep a tub/shower diverter valve would be the easiest way to go, especially if you want to keep the plumbing in the wall. Just make sure you have proper drainage away from the house.

    Smelly swimsuits

I've seen lots of neat open-air showers. When you plumb it, include a low spigot that can be used for a foot rinse. I don't know if you ever have freezing temperatures where you are, but that will also allow you to drain down the pipes if necessary.

We have a cistern painted black mounted to the roof of the pool house. It supplies the hot water for the shower and sink in that bathroom. The solar heated water gets really, really hot. You definitely need to balance it with cold water. I don't think I would use solar heated water without a...

Yep, that's why soaps are so irritating, they are alkaline. I said I agree, I'm just saying that maybe for folks that use those products the scent may be stronger or more noticeable. Smelly swimsuits

Natural skin pH is mid 5's, when it's too alkaline it can become drier and more sensitive. Hair & scalp pH is around 5 give or take .5, that's why pool water can make your hair dry and brittle. Rinsing your hair with diluted vinegar (white or apple cider) makes your hair feel softer because it...
