Ultimate 3000 Mesh Pool Cover Pool Closing Help Needed

My best results with holding a pool cover down on a round AGP in Cleveland OH was jugs filled with water and then fastened to the cover eyelets either with solid cord or bungee cords. If it gets a lot of snow load, bungees will stretch, and if solid cord is used, jugs will lift off ground. I...

Debating a new cover: Mesh or Solid Safety Cover in Northeast

I had an 18' AGP in Cleveland OH for about 8 years. Always used one of the cheap-ish solid woven tarp-type covers with various ways to keep it on; having to pump water off/clean ice off, and worried about critters (2 or 4 legged) getting either underneath or clawing thru, tho it never...

Keeping pool going (kinda) over winter

Roger Thanks...been doing pools for 10+ years BBB but still get frustrated on opening/closing. And yes, I rarely have CC with only two of us in a 20K G pool....

Keeping pool going (kinda) over winter

My pool temp is still in the 70's so will wait awhile before closing. Thanks for the feedback. This isn't my first pool, I had an 18' AGP for 6 years before this one. I primarily have Scotch Pine Needles in mine....pretty much all season, but of course worse after a storm. Some...

Keeping pool going (kinda) over winter

The more I think about that, the more work it seems! End of September may be a bit warm still, might wait till well in October. But yes I think end of April would be the plan for opening and taking my time to SLAM before it's even close to warm enough to swim in. Never had a problem...

Keeping pool going (kinda) over winter

Going to be closing my 15x30 liner IGP soon, I have a woven pool cover; the pool fills back up over winter from rain/snow anyway, I also lose a lot of CYA over the winter due to degradation and draining. This was my 3rd year of opening this pool, it's a typical green mess in the Spring, this...

    chlorine level

If he read the WebMD article on that, it is so "over the top" it aint funny....and points to "indoor pools" as the main problem. I was fortunate enough to have an indoor pool as a kid, so it didn't click right away that this meant indoor community pools...

Sand Filter on AGP sprung leak.

Hayward S244T (24") is a very common filter and cheap-ish....less than $300 online. Plus new sand of course! Would certainly not be overkill for your pool. Just installed a new one to replace a 20 year old one that was working but had several issues...money well spent.

    Frogs!

No luck removing them here. 2 ponds on the property and many ponds in neighborhood. Mostly Green frogs in the pool. Surprising they don't mind shock levels either. Fortunately ours tend to stay away from the humans.

    Pool depth dilemma *eyes rolling*

Yep, all depends....My previous pool was an 18' round x 54" deep above ground. Too deep for some but we loved it, as did our 10-yr old neighbor kid...who ALWAYS swam with an adult present. Current pool is about the size UR planning...~ 3.5' shallow end, ~ 7' deep end. Yes, it is a LOT of...

How to create more surface cleaning?

The weir flap actually works the opposite of what you'd think it would do. My neighbor's pool (which I am helping maintain) does not have one and it does not skim well.

Going to downgrade a waterway plastics impeller

But will you be paying for 1.5HP of electricity or closer to 4 HP worth, even tho it's 1.5 HP output...?,

Going to downgrade a waterway plastics impeller

Not trying to derail thread...but is it worthwhile to try to downgrade a 4HP to 1.5HP? Seems a new 2 speed 1HP replacement motor would be the best way to go. 1HP should be plenty for that size pool.

Outdoor speakers and equipment I need

In my opinion, Sirius/XM audio is only of moderate quality at best, mostly due to it's low sampling rate which is beyond the scope of this discussion. Any streaming audio/video is pretty much the same. It's great for outside in the pool or hanging out in a lawn chair tho. Basic inexpensive...

Pump Suggestion for 28' Above Ground?

2 speeds are great and not a lot more $ than single speeds. Variable speed even better if you want to spend the $. If it's just the motor that's gone, how about replacing the motor with a 2-speed and rebuilding the pump...that's probably the least expensive way to go. A 1.5 HP 2 speed would...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Thanks for the Menards info. darn...just got 32 at Ace last week for $2.99 for 10%...which is about the same cost per unit as Menard's regular $3.84 price for 12.5%! I'm maintaining 2 pools now so more is better tho..Perhaps another 32 at the sale price! Any leftover can be startup for next...

Striving to Dilute to lower CYA (newbie)..

That CYA is workable, in my opinion, especially if pool gets full sun. I don't know that I would fuss with it much further. A couple of thunderstorms and backwashes and you'd be where you want to be. I will defer to those with many more years' pool experience however. Me, at that point I...

Installed new sand filter - Pump is LOUD

If you set the filter to recirculate, which bypasses the filter, does the sound change? If not significantly, it aint the filter.

Pinhole leak on Hayward sand filter

Agreed on bigger filter for your size pool...how much bigger is beyond my experience. Hayward does make several larger filters in the same series.

Looking for thread about filling sand filter for first time

Agreed...I found a 'pre-wash' was not needed if you have decent pool sand and backwash/rinse thoroughly. Much less work.

    Adding pool stabilizer?

I believe I just hurt myself laughing after that one! I add stabilizer in a nylon stocking (pantyhose leg), about 3/4 of the the amount I think I need, and hang it in front of a return jet. Rarely takes more than 2 days to dissolve.

    Newbie - Stubborn CYA Levels!

69 is high, but manageable in my opinion...you'll just have to keep your FC at a higher level. Simple math...1/8 drain of the pool would remove 1/8 of the CYA: 69 x 7/8 = 60.

Newbie, firing the pool store, please help clear up green pool

All good and correct advice. I've been on here...wow...seven years now(!)...the advice hasn't changed...and it WORKS. This Spring we opened our pool 3 weeks later than usual due to vacation. It was horrible despite a double dose of polyquat algaecide last fall. Just kept bleaching and...

Pinhole leak on Hayward sand filter

Is this a leak in the valve, the tank, or ?. Actual pinhole, or dripping from a joint? Entire new S244T can be had for under $300 shipped....+ cost of sand.
