Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

You're right, I stand corrected, thanks Allen, the caveat is in there, at least for those who dig into it. "However, if a pool experiences constant acid demand and the pH rises too quickly, TA can be safely lowered as far as 50 PPM..."

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

I surely agree about the source of confusion. When I stare at the poolmath summary output for my aggregate pool (pasted below for fun) I find that recommendation somewhat in conflict with the many good, helpful, smart and experienced folks informing me, with good justification, that I should be...

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

I guess one can't overstate the implications of that tail chasing!! Aside from my own brand of "thickheadedness" on the matter, I still wonder how many folks are doing similar. Especially given the numbers among us cleaning CA off cells, and the numbers among us injecting or otherwise adding...

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

Thanks, I see it's available for $7.50 at my local Tractor Supply Co. I'll pick one up and test it. Is this the one you mean @pjt , which states "for water softeners"? Not that water softener statement matters much I guess. I don't see mermaid around here in the Southern USA, will keep an...

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

Wow - this amazing, thank you guys. The ABC's and plenty of other posts like in poolmath says "TA level to keep the PH in balance". I guess I never appreciated what that truly meant, so I created a battle. I'll let the TA drop to 50 and keep an eye on PH, now realizing the goal is simply to...

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

So here we go.... Me too, but as soon as I try to get it near that 70, 80 or even 90, that's when my PH keeps trying to rise correspondingly faster, and I have to add muriatic acid to keep PH down, then my TA falls again. I've been in that cycle for years.

Well, maybe I'm learning something :) Please know that I've not trusted or used poolstores for tests (or just about anything else) in 20 years - I use the standard kits noted in my signature. But it's still a fair point that I should get calibration/verification of my tests, thanks. About the...

Thanks for all the thoughts guys. Aside from my OP about iron in pool salt, it seems an interesting debate has emerged about calcium buildup in SWG cells - how fun! @Bperry and @mknauss - you guys report very interesting results that your cells almost never get calcium deposits, and @mknauss...

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

I’ve loved my SWG over the past few years. Even with having to add salt and clean the cell every few months, it’s so much easier than dealing with buying, transporting, storing and deploying liquid chlorine constantly. But a recent salt-stain event had me questioning the SWG if there is iron...

    REPAIRED! - Hayward GLX-PCB-MAIN

Major applause for you guys - @teerff, others, (and @BarryTX & @syberia81 who sadly don't seem to be around much in TFP anymore) - for finding and documenting these great controller repairs! I love saving big bucks fixing stuff like this. Of course the toughest part is figuring out which...

    Spillover issue?

If we understand your description, then indeed low flow. I set my valves so that the spillover just clears the tile behind the waterfall when the pump is on low speed. When it starts to trickle back and run down the tile that becomes my "automatic reminder" to clean the filter :p

(New) Spa Blower shuts off after five minutes

A lot more information is needed from you, unless someone has seen this before. Are you getting a normal air flow from the jets while the blower is running? Water flow normal from the jets? Does the blower get hot? Does it run again after cooling off? Have you put a meter on the blower motor...

3 yo Jandy Heater: Repair or Replace?

I agree with all the comments. Just to add, another preventive option is to have a whole house surge suppressor installed at the main entrance panel for a few hundred bucks. Not just for tornado alley, but here in FL half the state gets heavy afternoon thunderstorms in the summer almost daily...

No bonding required for pavers over deep sand with no concrete?

Thanks very much folks for all the replies and detail. So the first thing I now realize is that a bonding grid of some type is indeed required, whether or not poured concrete is below the pavers. Well I actually don't really know that - I just assumed that no grid is present because I dug this...

No bonding required for pavers over deep sand with no concrete?

As I looked at the pictures in this post Ladder anchors don't have drainage I was reminded that my entire lanai is pavers over deep sand with no concrete under the pavers. Does anyone know why pavers don't need to be bonded in such a case? I don't get shocks and I have not (yet) tested for...

    Ladder anchors don't have drainage

For drainage I drilled through the bottom of the anchor, through the concrete pad and into the sand - very long concrete drill bit. Since I was the one pouring the pad I had also placed a 1/2" PVC tube under the anchor so that cement would not fill the tube. But cement got in there anyway so I...

    Heat Pump Question

I agree with @elwood58 that the internal flow override is good enough, I run mine that way all the time, so I don't really consider that an "error" per se. At the risk of complicating things, I suppose one could argue that controlling the heater on a schedule (that matches the pump) adds a bit...

Extra single wire from spa light? Repairing junction box

All good, thanks @JamesW. I might have been nitpicking but I was just trying to draw a distinction between the type of remote Jbox the OP might be considering, versus one of those full blown rated transfomers (eg intermatic & others you kindly linked) that are effectively their own Jbox...
