    Pool Heat Pump recommendation

Maybe ask that guy if he'd be willing to acquire parts for you? Talk to several? Having more resources being a good thing! I hear you! I went so far as to pursue my epa608 cert so I can legally fix a couple old pool heaters and home AC. Even after acquiring all the tools I'm already far...

    Pool Heat Pump recommendation

I agree with earlier comments about BTU, service folks, power, etc., and the links work - at least for me. Try another browser? There's a lot of good information in there. Many of us in the far South prefer the Built Right brand for lengthy warranty & reliability, also very quiet - I have...

    Hotspot energy FPH install

Dude that is wild and interesting, thanks for the explanations. And wow, that’s a lot. Awhile back I read through your plans for FPH on a heat pump system, I knew it would be complicated. But it’s perhaps enough to frighten away anyone thinking of implementing FPH to a home AC/heatpump. First, I...

    Hotspot energy FPH install

Also wondering if you might have run a 4 conductor low voltage cable between the two controllers, such that perhaps the FPH is "thinking" that the a/c is cooling by way of picking up induced current in the 2nd pair of wires. Or the "commons" of those two 24vac circuits interfering with one...

    Hotspot energy FPH install

That seems so weird. I guess it seemed weird to you too. I don't know the heat pump control wiring intimately, but it seems like there must be 24vac some place in the heat pump that is only active during a home a/c cooling cycle. It also makes me wonder if somehow the internal FPH controller...

    Hotspot energy FPH install

As Matt (@JoyfulNoise) states, there are tons of tips and explanations across hundreds of posts in those search results, all worth a careful read-through – or two (three?) read-throughs 😊 In those many threads I’m not sure we ever summarized it well. So here goes: The supplied FPH controller...

    Dual Heat Pumps on LI?

Agreed - Having heater(s) is so very great even if only for these special events, in my opinion. And/or for heating a spa. I do also like the "one of each" (NG & HP) solution, so you have the extra BTU power if needed - either to overcome having let it get cold, and/or for a quicker spa heat...

    Dual Heat Pumps on LI?

I’m thinking there are a lot of great points and counterpoints made in this thread, here’s a bit more, my idea of a “summary”…. I’m thinking that once you wade through the great heat loss estimates from @JamesW and others, and related efficiency specs for heat pumps running in cooler weather...

    Dual Heat Pumps on LI?

Hey @Newdude, I agree with your comparisons to AC in various seasons, but not so much in agreement with your latter points about extending the season. Most everyone I know with a Heat Pump uses it to extend the season. It's just a matter of degree, depending on your climate and how much you're...

    Dual Heat Pumps on LI?

I love the idea of two heat pumps – I’ve been thinking about it for awhile, partly because I repaired one and now have a spare just sitting there unconnected The cost to run two should be nearly identical to the cost to run one – just faster with two, making it possible to recover the needed...

Heater not as powerful as before

A good set of applicable previous replies from others, here’s more… As noted, it would be most helpful to you and to us if you would include the model number and BTU of your heater and add it to the signature too. Another simple test for a DIY-er that would quantify any potential problem is to...

How quickly can pH/negative LSI eat through a heat exchanger?

Good advice and feedback, methinks. I'm just wondering how 'close inspection' and disassembly would reveal a heat exchanger that was about to leak. If a highly acidic environment were degrading the heat exchanger, wouldn't all that degradation be located inside the exchanger (which to my...

    Shock/Tingle getting into/out of pool

I think reasons for the change, i.e. reasons for variable test results, were fairly well documented in posts #188 & #189 above.

    Need info

Just my opinion but I think one day (soon) you'll regret not at least wiring for a future heater, rendering lesser wiring plans a waste/throwaway. Absent a heater, even in Florida you'll be limited to 4-6 months comfortable swimming - in water at least 80, preferably 85F. I'm far South...

Newer thread on HotSpot Energy Air Conditioner heat recovery pool heater

@superdave5599 …. As @JamesW noted, there are many threads running about here in TFP that debate the Hotspot FPH, including merits, costs, ideas, downsides, etc. Including this thread that ran for about 9 years with over 14 pages and 260+ posts to the thread Hotspot FPH AC heat reclamation pool...

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

I figured that's what you meant, was just checking. And voila you did the work! Thanks Steve for re-summarizing to include the additional info. I added an edit to the OP pointing to your post #71. I had this other thought or theory. Salinity & some of the Aquasalt bags reference or imply...

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

A good idea in theory, I wouldn't know how to begin reliably testing for purity. And, as others noted, the next batch could be totally different. I took another look at the bags since I still have them. Unfortunately all the ones I tested have very little information - about purity level, and...

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

In case of confusion for anyone wondering why "I" delved back into the TA/MA thing at post #63 above, I didn't. I had posted #63 as a new thread in the testing and balancing forum but I guess a moderator thought it better to continue in this thread, so there it is above, with subsequent...

Thanks for the tip. In that regard (CSI), the phone app seems to match the online 'calc' version. All good.

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

I guess this might get controversial, but I hope not. Before getting into it, a word of caution: If you decide there is merit to this and you therefore embark on a process to lower your TA levels, please be very careful to watch your pH and TA levels so that you avoid the risk of equipment...

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

I only illustrated the tool result to show that, in this case, it matches my experience that CSI and pH rise with rise in TA. But I agree with you, given the many variables, only empirical data tells the real and full story.

Iron stain from pool salt - all or most salts have iron.

I get it, at least from a purist sorta perspective, so thanks. I'm just not sure how much it matters to me that the relationship is direct or indirect, since I'm reliably having that experience - and presumably the reason you and others advised me and @tcat to lower TA and thereby exit that...

Indeed I think that is worth the effort, I think it may help folks & thanks for pressing forward the change. The 50-90 range is evident when one clicks on TA from the Overview area (in the app). That said, the other sources remain for folks to watch out for, such as: ** ABC's landing page says...
