    Helping my neighbor

I have a nozzle that is adjustable for the smooth part and a brush for the cracks. At the lowest setting I've hit my bare feet and it wasn't pleasant, but I didn't break the skin. I want to make sure I don't create more problems than I fix!

    Helping my neighbor

My neighbor is a single woman who bought the house despite it having a pool and has a real mess. The CYA level was well over 100 last time I checked it and I explained to her how the trichlor pucks were complicating the problem and in the meantime black algae has grown in all the cracked...

    enclosure for swag?

I'm in the same sunny boat. My equipment pad is in the hottest place in the yard until mid afternoon. In the short term I'm going to cover the cell with some insulated reflective material. The wife operates a sewing machine, so longer term we will have a nice looking cover made from outdoor...

    Covering a CircuPool cell

Thanks for the advice. My wife could make one of those sun covers and it's no big deal to mount the controller in a steel switch box.

    Covering a CircuPool cell

I read that the clear plastic isn't to be in direct sun. My equipment pad gets a lot of sun and heat. Has anyone used a cover, or made a shade for it? Thanks!

Can I drain and power wash my IG plaster pool?

Hi. I did this a few years ago with my pool. It's half your size, so to get a fast drain consider renting a pump. I used my 1600psi washer and was careful. No issues, just used water. Drained one day, washed, refilled and running again by morning of third day. I didn't allow pool to dry out...

    Faux Waterfall?

They make rocks you can fill with concrete for jumping. - - - Updated - - - Hi Bill, Did you do the install yourself? I'm strongly considering one of these and would like to do the work.

Just getting started in Frisco, TX

I notice that you have a waterfall, but haven't mentioned much about it. I'm replacing a failed water feature and am strongly leaning toward a prefab. They look pretty good in the pics, and appear to be a good diy project. Do you know the mfg and model? Is it something you'd recommend? Thanks!

Trouble on rounded steps with Zodiac MX8

I'm a former MX8 owner. My suspicion is that you've already consumed a gear drive unit. My MX8 went through those, and the long gear shaft, very quickly. I hate to bash the equipment, but after two seasons I replaced it. In the end I couldn't even give it away on Craigslist.

    CYA problem

I had to hire a pool service for about a year due to job travel. They used triclor pucks in a floater. I recently quit my job and fired the pool service when the guy said he'd have to drain my pool due to the CYA getting up to 100. It was time to get back to doing it myself (BBB method). I...

    New Pool Build Finish

+1 on Wet Edge Technology. Their middle range materials are not much more than the cheapest alternative and a huge improvement. I used it this last year and at one year am very happy with our choice. Pete

    New Build in Pearland TX

I will say two things that I'd do differently with my pool. 1. Use a SWG system 2. Choose rock that is more resistant to SW. Use a design that keeps the natural rock bits out of the pool water. best regards Pete

    Clarifier good or bad

Last year my DE filter broke and a bunch of stuff got put back in the pool. I had it fixed but the water looked pretty terrible. I added some clarifier during the nonstop run while periodically vacuuming. I was back to normal in about three days. I used the "Back to Blue " stuff, a neighbor gave...

    Hayward Navigator troubles

I have had some improvement from removing one section of hose, adjusting the back flap to position 3 and throttling back on the skimmer a bit. But it is still getting twisted up. No leaf filter.

    contradicting CH numbers

The store guy was very deft as far as his drop rate. It was quick and precise. He'd probably done it a thousand times. I'm going to try it with swirling and making sure the mix is more thorough and see if it makes a differance. I'm also going to see what Taylor tech support has to say. Pete

    contradicting CH numbers

Three weeks ago I refilled my pool after a restoration with Wet Edge Satin Matrix. It looks great and the water is great. I had my first swim at 72f - brrrr! Anyhow, I bought a fresh test kit, a TF100. I wanted a fresh start. My numbers are: FC=2.0 CC=0 PH=7.6 TA=170 CH=400 or 240? CYA=20 I am...

    Hayward Navigator troubles

I recently went back to a Navigator after a very expensive experience with the Barracuda MX5. I have plenty of slack suction line so it isn't restrained in any way. However, after about three hours it will be completely hung up, almost tied in knots. I understand how the steering mechanism...

    What's your pool cleaners name?

My Barracuda MX5 is nicknamed "POS". It's actually an acronym . . . I coined the nickname after going through $100 worth of replacement parts in the second season of ownership. He's up for adoption now. For free.

Use and care for DE filters

I think it worth mentioning that after you have opened your filter the first time it's a lot less intimidating from then on. I open mine about every other time it needs to be recharged and hose it clean. We have never had any serious clogs or issues and our pool cleaner operates better. The...

Algae despite good FC level...are phosphates to blame?

I think more brushing is the answer. My pool has pretty good circulation, but if I either forget, or go out of town on business there will be a green area on the south wall of the pool. When I am diligent with the brushing it does not happen. I routinely have 3-5ppm FC, and never any combined...

    Auto-fill or no?

My Pool-miser autofill is wonderful. We lose as much as an inch a day during the July-September period and my idiot neighbor is always running his pump dry due to inattention to the water level. It's based on a FluidMaster toilet tank valve and is trouble-free. I don't see the down side to this...

What would you do differently, if you could rebuild your pool?

I would choose my natural rock elements based on their resistance to salt. 18 years ago saltwater pools were not "on the radar" and my hardscape is mostly limestone. Not good for extended exposure to salt. - - - Updated - - - That's silly! I like your pool shape and wouldn't let some...

    Addin salt without a SWG

I think there is some middle ground here with enough salt to make it feel nice and not enough to harm the landscape. As far as hardscape goes, my pool builder used lots of limestone and I'm not getting any salt water in that. I've already had some issues with my natural rock loosening up in the...

    Calcium Removal Question

It is a little more work, but I discovered that Bartender's Friend is great at cleaning tile. Include the reduced hazard and it makes a little bit of elbow grease worth it. Mod note: Please see post below as a follow up on why this is not a good idea.
