Need help deciding between two different designs....

I like the first design of the second set. But I agree with those who says to lose the built in spa. If your upper deck is large enough, I would put a small stand alone hot tub there. It would be covered and you would use it a lot more. In lieu of the spa on the pool I would enlarge the sun...

    Skimmer repair, help needed!

Should be an easy fix. I would sand down the weir area after removing the bolt, epoxy the bolt holes up and then sand flush and then just epoxy the wier bracket to the base of the skimmer. Epoxy is some great stuff and would probably last for many years.

Pool Build in Costa Blanca Spain.

The red appears to be a cover for the blue tile sheets. After it dries they pull the covering off. Looks really nice. Would be cool if pool builders in USA did all tile pools on occasion.

Do you have roots coming out of the corms of the banana plants? The closest one in the back of the carts doesn't seem to have any. Without getting the corm and some roots. the plants will not grow.

    The Liquidator installation is done..

Yes I am still active and still using the LQ. It has worked great for however many years I am going on now. 9! They also basically warrant the various parts in it indefinitely. Just call Hasa with any issues. I wanted spares of all of the stuff in case I needed them so I bought a second unit...

Does pool water get stale? I have constant ALK drops and PH increases

Isn't 60 low? I have always tried to keep TA around 100. Used to be able to keep it there too. But not anymore.

Does pool water get stale? I have constant ALK drops and PH increases

I have a 6K gallon fiberglass pool. Have had the same water other than rain and top ups for many many years. Never done a full drain. I chlorinate with bleach (Liquidator). I keep all my numbers pretty perfect. TA 110ish, PH 7.4, CYA 40-50, CL 4-6. Starting about 2 years ago I developed this...

Concrete Pool Coping Bricks and a Fiberglass Pool - Bad Idea???

Waterline tile is applied with silicone caulk. I would use the same color to stick it on and grout it IMO. After you put it on and let it dry, liberally apply caulk to the face of the tiles and then use scrubbie pads doused in dish washing detergent & water to spread it into the grout lines. It...

New Pool w/ Falls & Slide in Baton Rouge, LA

Cool slide build. It is a shame they couldn't design a way for you to use the space under it. It's practically a room. Nice storage area, pump room or tornado shelter!

Considering a complete tear down of my Hot Spring Spa. Ill Advised???

I'd do it. You don't need the foam for support. Just build a new base out of salt treated that the rim of the hot tub is supported on. If it were me I would use 3M 5200 caulk on the fittings inside of the tub. That stuff lasts forever. After you are all done I would get some foam sheets and cut...

Swimming pool in need of renovation

I think that is a great looking pool and deck. The tile and desk also both appear to be in good shape from what I can see. I would train your kids to deal with the lip. No one should run around a pool anyways. I don't see a skimmer though. Got more pictures including any of the equipment pad...

New Filberglass pool install. 2" off level

Guy, What is up with the rock cap that you have on the side of the riser wall? You are not going to put a new cap over your cantilever around the pool are you? I would lean towards pouring cement pads on top of the riser wall and using the same cantilever forms that you did on your deck so the...

    Pool remodel progress

Not sure what to tell you on the mud and other issues but on the skimmer height they are probably planning on using a skimmer extension. They're not that uncommon. It is a sleeve that slides into the skimmer and extends it and you can level it independent from the skimmer.

    Waterproofing options for pool renovation

You might look into Drylok. It is a latex based masonry sealant. I have used in in pond and pool applications and it will not hurt fish or plants but would have to be redone eventually. In the bog side the sludge produced will help to seal the cement eventually as well. You might consider just...

    Vinyl Remodel Help Needed

The time to replace your coping and your steps would be when you have to replace the liner. You can install many different types of track systems and some are designed to be a flush mount with a brick coping. Just Google "inground liner track" and you will find a number of companies who make...

New Filberglass pool install. 2" off level

Guy, I feel for you. I had a similar situation to you although not as dramatic and since I installed my pool myself I had no one to blame for it but me. It is true that these pools are not perfect on the top rail. Mine was the same way. I had the shell sitting in my front yard for over a month...

    Repair/Renovate or Remove?

OK, I will take a shot at it. Other than replastering, I could see myself DIYing something like this if I felt good about the shell. After cleaning and hydrostatic valving, I would: Rip off all of the coping and tile and the stuff on the outside of the shell. Dump all but the wood around the...

    Over my head in Wisconsin

JVTrain I hate to beat a dead horse but I just noticed that the unions in the second picture that are going underground are DWV unions as well. Certainly the 2 90's in the image and I think the M/M unions as well. As cheap as it would be to correct I would replace them. The female end on a DWV...

    Over my head in Wisconsin

Are you sure all of those unions are SCH40? Those sweeping 90's and 45's look like what I normally see in HD as the non-pressurized unions. I think SCH20? The 90 coming out of your backwash is definitely a SCH40 union.

Continual declining ALK and increasing PH / 6k fiberglass pool

Any idea what could be causing this shift? Old water? Weird bleach? I have never had this problem before. I have used almost 3 gallons of muratic acid this summer and that is a lot for a 6k fiberglass pool. I guess I will stop increasing the TA and just concentrate on the PH for a while and see...

Continual declining ALK and increasing PH / 6k fiberglass pool

I have a 6000ish gallon fiberglass pool. I chlorinate with 8% bleach and have done so for years. This year my alkalinity refuses to stay in the 100-110 rage that I try to keep it in and my PH always seems to move up to 8.0. I've never tracked CH but I just tested it and it is 40. Any...

    Fiberglass coping stone question

I did my own DIY fiberglass install as well and put down cantilevered flagstone. I did my coping similar to yours where it was flush with the fiberglass bond beam. I used mortar to hold mine down. I mortared right over the fiberglass bond beam and onto the cement. I did use a bonding agent on...

Fiberglass Pool Install... what to do about coping?

It is definitely slow going. But at least you have the sub-deck poured so it is really completely usable once that is done. I think I took 6-10 months to do mine a few square feet at a . I do not see how you could ever afford to contract that type of work. It is just so time intensive that one...

Fiberglass Pool Install... what to do about coping?

Hi Dan, I did something similar to my fiberglass pool but I flagstoned the entire deck. A link is below in case you want to check it out. I DIYed the pool install as well as the flagstoning it so I am pretty familiar with the whole process if you have any questions. In regards to your second...

New Viking Montego in Riverside CA

I DIY tiled my fiberglass pool a few years ago. It is a great upgrade IMO. Easy to do, looks great, and is very durable. I was actually surprised at how strong it is once applied. If you have a cantilever deck it also is a great bond between the pool shell and deck to keep water out. i bought my...

Pasadena Pool Build by Owner (from concept to cracks to water)

An easy way to test a fix for this and this might actually be a pretty permanent fix is cut a piece of solid foam to the right size and wedge it in there up near the top. It if works I would snap out the incorrect metal (it looks to only be held on with two spot welds), cut a piece of salt...

    Decking demo (fiberglass pool)
