    Concrete slippery solution

From my memory it was mixed with a top sealant (I think it works with many top coats/sealants), and it really added a lot of extra texture/grip without much visible change to the surface. I only noticed the coating when I looked closely...it looked just like sealed concrete. I am not sure how...

    Concrete slippery solution

There is a top coating/sealant additive you can apply called Sharkgrip - I have seen it applied to a stamped pool deck that was very slick when wet and it helped make it more safe.

    HTH PODS Stabilizer

I am using up a bag of them this year - they are finer than the Clorox Brand CYA that I have used in the past, so they dissolve much quicker. I put them in my skimmer, which has a hair net in it to act as my "sock". Since I don't have to measure and pour CYA into a sock and tie it off it makes...

    SF Bay Area New Pool

I run our robot cord in one corner of the pool where the cover almost always has trouble closing tightly anyway. Our cover bar is never perfectly aligned and tight to the coping it seems - which gives me a perfect spot for the cord. When I close the pool I rarely get the cord trapped or pinched...

Can I turn my old dichlor feeder into a Liquid Chlorine Doser?

You already have some salt in your water from bleach, muriatic acid, sweat and other things...you might even have quite a bit. Use of an auto cover with the correct amount of salt for a SWCG to run properly shouldn't create any additional problems for your cover - especially if you are keeping...

Opinions on Pebble Fina and Primera Stone

We went with one of the darker finishes - at the time it was called Black Kona - which I think is now most similar to their current color called Diamond Head (think Hawaii theme). Here are a few photos of our pool - some are showing the shallow water on the sun shelf which shows the real color...

    Adding salt without SWG?

I have fancy Himalayan pink salt in my hot tub right now - my wife found several multi pound bags cheap at Marshalls - I figure the extra trace minerals are better for my skin and sore muscles during my hot soaks...and it is more "natural", at least in my mind, even if it is still 98% sodium...

Opinions on Pebble Fina and Primera Stone

(y)(y) on Primera Stone - as an owner I love it being smooth, it can be re-polished at some point in the future if needed, and it might last longer than I do! I don't know the cost differences between it and other brands etc...so I can't help you there. We wanted a long lasting, smooth, darker...

Ideas to remove a stuck CMP Spa Master Top Draw Air Control?

I have a similar valve I damaged on my hot tub: Waterway 660-4401 2.5" TruSeal Short Body Air Control My valve was a little tight turning, and I saw an air valve repair video on youtube that showed how the top cap just popped up and off and the guts can be cleaned and/or replaced - much like...

Brand new pool, first tests :)

I mentioned in one of your other threads (cough - the zero CYA one ;))...that I run my CYA between 30-40 with a cover on the pool the majority of the time. I am right now running my pool pump for 5 hours each day and my SWCG is set at 25% when closed...Now that we have warmer water, and are...

What did you do to your pool today?

We had a big birthday bash for my now 10 year old son yesterday?! It was the very first time we have had THAT many kids in the pool at one time - only 12-14 kids and a handful of adult kids...this just happened to be our hottest day of the year no less, so the pool was perfect to keep everyone...

    Nicheless LED Light Replacement Options

We finally have 2 new lights - which is just in time for a heat wave and some warm nights where we might actually use our lights and keep the cover open! The lights are the all new Jandy Nicheless "Hydrocool" LEDs which look completely different from our older ones. These new ones have a new...

Help! I've spent over 900$ in three weeks and still can't swim!

Time to start your SLAM: First, lower the PH to 7.2 with muriatic acid. Second, add Liquid Chlorine to get to your SLAM value - per the FC/CYA Chart Test the FC as often as possible and keep upping the chlorine back to the SLAM level of CYA 40 whenever it drops below that. The more times a day...

    Is CYA Absolutely Necessary???

I have a covered pool and I have a little bit of experience with trying to run a lower CYA and can share my results. However, I have never tried zero CYA - I think the FC would be way to harsh and it would start eating swimsuits and even degrading my expensive cover. Remembering back to my prior...

    Is CYA Absolutely Necessary???

There are some great older threads on the site by Richard Faulk aka Chemgeek - he was the one who helped spearhead all of the current TFP numbers and was I think responsible for the super useful FC/CYA Chart. Here is an article mentioning the history of this information and a great quote from...

    Hayward Therapy Jets

Just as an update - our two jets are pretty powerful and all the waves/ripples in the photo, across the entire pool, are from just the action created by just these two simple jets. We have a sitting bench running along one entire side of the pool, and the 2 jets are above that bench near our...

    Hayward Therapy Jets

Hi, we have 2 therapy jets in our gunite pool - I wanted to use them to help massage my legs/back when needed. I have one VS pump for our pool and when it is turned up, and the valve is positioned for the therapy jet mode, which bypasses our normal pool returns, the two jets are very powerful -...

Ideal pH to avoid eye burn

TFP balanced water is pretty easy on my eyes. I target PH of around 7.6 - but honestly I can't tell the difference between 7.4-7.8. The biggest possible issue: Rubbing of eyes - if you rub your eyes to clear them when you come up for air it tends to press pool water more on to your eyeballs and...

CYA Levels and SW pool with cover

I have a pool cover and the pool is covered most of the time. I have decided to keep my CYA at around 40 - and I shoot for FC of 4-5 (the same as the 10-12% that Marty mentions above). However, my automation allows me to adjust my SWCG % based on being open or covered - so I don't need to...

What did you do to your pool today?

Today did a small repair on the cover ropes - we had a broken rope stop and I finally got some replacements from Cover-Pool. Here is a before photo: There is a small tapered nylon sleeve that fits over an aluminum clamp (think Chinese finger trap). One of ours broke which causes the cover to...

    New house, high CYA

Sounds like at least a 50% water exchange/drain is what you need. Marty and Pat are the TFP experts and are great people to advise you.

Hairline crack in skimmer?? With pictures

I like to use Plast-Aid on PVC repairs - it works better than 2 part epoxy for me as it chemically bonds to the PVC. Might be something to check out as an alternative.

It's always something! Cover isn't closing..

I have a different brand of cover (mine is Cover-Pools). But from what I can see, and you have explained, it might be something I can help you with. Is the shear pin (roll pin) inside the slot in the center of your cams still intact? From the photo you posted it looks like it still is, but I...

    Automatic Pool Cover Won't Open

You are lucky that the motor is running well it appears - Check if you have a shear pin as others have mentioned above (Not sure a T3 does - mine is a T3 also). I would look at the slip clutch. If you do have a sheared pin, then it would seem that your cover ropes might be stuck or too tight...

Trichlor+water exchange cost cheaper than bleach exclusively?

I think you should look again at the Joyfulnoise post above about using Cal-Hypo instead - as Matt mentions it might eventually require some sort of drain/refill, if the CH gets out of hand, but you would be much more stable long term with no CYA increases and no need to keep upping your FC...

    Awkward backyard build

Updated Umbrella Links/Info I purchased "Sundale 10ft Tilting Market Umbrella" - like these So far they are 2 years old and holding up - I bought them for $45 each with free shipping in 2017. They aren't super high quality like the more expensive ones Treasure Garden ones sold at most outdoor...
