    Muriatic Acid Needs

Yes. Your FC is extremely low for a CYA of 80. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/free-chlorine-and-cyanuric-acid-relationship-explained/

    Cannot get a Chlorine reading

A single speed pump is far less expensive to run than HVAC. If I do decide to upgrade a VS is certainly on the list.

Just got my Taylor K-2006C test kit - Questions

I just checked the dates on my Taylor reagents. Same as yours, but I ordered my kit late last season. I’ll be ordering the TFPro Salt next season.

SLAM almost done - CYA too low for Salt Water Pool? + Maintaining after the SLAM

In my neck of the woods I have my CYA at 80 and it worked splendidly. I’ve been running my SWCG anywhere from 3-6 hours depending on conditions, starting at 5:00am, to take my level at or near 9. I’ve never lost more than 4 in any day.

    Getting small amounts of algae

I had to SLAM in early June. My ladder was absolutely disgusting once I took it apart.

    Getting small amounts of algae

Hi Gail. Small world. I grew up in Harmar down south on 28. Glad to see a fellow Western PA TFPer. 👋

Has TFP's opinion on swimming in high chlorine changed?

Yeah. All devices have open mics whether we like it or not.

    Pool opening 2024

Most of the tarps I used for various camping excursions should be alright, so long as the are heavy duty. My pool cover was cheaper.

Slamming, CYA not increasing, still cloudy

You do not need to increase your TA. pH is good for now; if it goes over 8 reduce it to at least 7.8. As you lower pH with MA it will reduce the TA.

    Pool opening 2024

I don’t know the particulars of your pump. If you don’t have a sump pump you don’t have much of an alternative.

    High CYA and High FC

I merely stated there’s not much season left to naturally lower your CYA. I haven’t seen a CYA value listed from your own test. If I missed it I apologize. With very high CYA your options to do anything in the way of everyday chlorinating and SLAM chlorinating are challenging. Closing your...

No. You have to maintain the SLAM level until you meet all three closing criteria.

    Better late than never

That’s just a mile down the road. This is the county seat with a population of 12,000 at best. It’s as rural as it gets. We all live atop of a inactive coal mine. I used to live in southern IL in the early 80s while I was in the USAF. Coming from the coal mines of western PA it surprised me how...

    High CYA and High FC

There’s not enough time left in the season for that much CYA to dissipate from natural cause.

    Cannot get a Chlorine reading

Not enough to alter the issues you have. You’ll need to SLAM. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2018/12/12/slam-shock-level-and-maintain/

Yeah, the bucket method stinks. The sock method works very well.

    Better late than never

Here’s a bird’s eye view of the back yard. Tough to see all, but to the left of the pool starts a dill plot, then there’s a peony. The bare spot is a dying rhubarb, then another dill plot, then lettuce. We let everything go to seed and allow it to regenerate. The jungle in the far left corner is...

Has TFP's opinion on swimming in high chlorine changed?

I don’t do social media at all. Far too much drama from what I hear others say about it. It’s pleasant here and I actually learn something.

Been here since June and now finally getting around to this. I’m Derek along with my wife Kathy, and we’re smack dab in the middle of Illinois about 30 miles southeast of Springfield. Yes, pretty much nothing but farms for as far as the eye scan see with some towns and villages scattered amongst...

    Is this algae?

I get similar looking stuff almost every day and collects in the center half of the pool, along the lines of circulation. In fact, I was watched the debris “swim” yesterday afternoon before I vacuumed. Mine is not algae, simply stuff coming into the pool on a daily basis. It’s quite breezy here...

This is a Lot Harder than Y’all Made it Out to Be

I slammed in early June with a CYA of 80 because I failed OCLT. Catching it early is the key so you won’t need to use the overall volume of LC as you would with a cloudy or green pool.
