I have an auto cover, and opened it for the first time of the season. I opened it half way to check water level (pool being opened this week.)
I went to close it, and it would not close. Did not hear any noise at all. I was able to open it the entire way.
We scheduled an appointment, but that is a few weeks out.
What is most likely the issue ? Does it sound like it could be related to an issue on the Key panel used to open/close it ?
There was power to open it, so maybe something related to a loose wire or connection related to closing it ?
Do the cover maintenance companies deal with issues on the key panel , or is that something they would say an electrician should handle ?

What model cover are we discussing?

Cover maintenance company should be able to work on problems with the key panel.

The brand is Cover Pools.
the manual cover says “Save-T 3 Automatic Pool Cover”.

Another related question I have, and not sure if this should be a separate topic, is we were given a switch/part that is supposed to prevent the waterfall from working when the cover is closed. There was back and forth between cover company and electrician on who was supposed to install, and it was never done.
I still have the part, sealed in packaging. packaging says “ACC Board Amp Limit in Encl”.
(Says cover pools inc on packaging )

is this supposed to be installed in the auto cover box ? Or near the equipment pad ?
guessing I should have this addressed at the same time .
Thanks

Your installation manual…

Do you have an electric motor or hydraulic motor? See page 5.

Any installation instructions in the package?

I think it is an electric motor. It did not say anything about either one on the invoice.
(Hydraulic system says it should be installed above ground level, and ours is in cover box/pit. See attached pic from when pool was instructed.
This was installed in 2021, and quickly looking at warranty, motors and controllers are covered for 3 years.

The key switch we have to open/close the cover is the one shown on page 20 of the manual (top right corner when turned rightside up)

Also- that part I mentioned that is supposed to prevent waterfall from going on with cover closed is also shown on page 20, it seems its the "Aqua Link Interface Board". I did find an email from when the pool was installed with the wiring diagram the cover company gave us for this, that we sent to the electrician, but I now recall electrician was saying that cover co should install, and there was back and forth on that, and...4 years later its still sitting in the package, next to where I keep the manuals!

Here is a thread about another Coverstar not closing due to a broken key pad. There is a good chance that is your problem.

thank you!
I appreciate it, I had a feeling it was probably a faulty switch, or loose connection on the key panel.

In regard to that other part, the "Aqua Link Interface Board", I did go back and see some emails from a few years ago, and found info the cover co sent for us to send to the electrician on how to install, and the wiring instructions. It seems that piece gets installed near the equipment pad. Instructions seem complicated to me (not an electrician or techie at all), guessing thats why people involved tried to pass it off on other people involved in the build, and since the cover people, and electrician were paid directly by us, and separate from the pool builder, nobody wanted to do it etc,
Time to get back in touch with the electrician, who we had a hard time getting in touch with after the pool was basically done. (we also realized they never installed an electrical outlet behind waterfall to plug in waterfall lights, so hopefully they can do that as well, and not at any expensive additional fee etc.
It seems it would be so much easier to pay one vendor, who is responsible for everything, than paying people separately (we had pool builder, electrician, cover co, plumber for gas heater, and masonry company)

Can you scan the interface board instructions and share them here? Maybe we can help you understand the best way to get it done.

To electricians a box like the Aqualink is foreign. I can understand many electricians hesitancy in touching it.

The interface board should have been installed during construction before the deck and landscaping were done.

The kit consists of two boards: an auto-shutoff board that goes near the keypad and an accessory board that is installed near the Aqualink.

Do you have the key control or the touch pad control?

Confirm you do not have the auto-shutoff currently installed?

The problem for an "electrician" installing this now is that the auto-shutoff board needs to be wired between the motor by the pool and the keypad. And that conduit is probably buried under the deck.

And wherever the auto-shutoff board is placed needs a conduit feeding it with power.

Then, a conduit needs to be run from the auto-shutoff board to the Aqualink.

I don't know the path and finishes between these locations but I would assume everything is nicely finished and digging things up for the needed conduit and wire runs will make a mess.

The hookups are straightforward once the wiring is in place in the ground.

I think it will also be challenging to install the sensor wiring from the motor for the closed cover at the other end of the pool with a finished deck.

The blue wire is the existing motor to keypad connection you have.

The red box is the auto-shutoff that needs to be connected between the keypad and the motor.

The green box is the Aqualink accessory card located in or next to the Aqualink.

The gold lines are two new conduits that need to be run from the auto-shutoff to the Aqualink cabinet.
