Just started dabbling in outfitting custom built barns with golf simulators. Pretty fun side job. Lots to learn but coming together nicely! I’ll post more updates of the final results.
Thought about using 2” thick adhesive backed foam, but it didn’t look good. So we got some heavy duty black vinyl wrapped that around plywood with foam. Did an overlap on the boards with the foam facing the screen so the edges are protected as well. Then ran screws and cover them with buttons and leftover vinyl. Next one we do we are buying a bigger screen so we don’t have to frame it in like this one.
Yeah it’s always the back 9! Worst thing that could happen besides a full whammy bounce back to the face is taking out the projector with a back swing. Projector placement is key for the limited height.
We put 2” thick foam around them. You’re standing about 10’ or less from the screen. Chances of actually hitting straight into the light should be low albeit not impossible.
Club slipping out of a hand on an indoor range is very unlikely. The only time a club ever slipped out of my hand by accident was in the pouring rain. In any case I would worry more about the projector than a light.
The lights do have a pretty durable cover at least. We looked into finding a suitable cover but nothing looked good. Also thought about trying to attach something to the vinyl but nothing seem aesthetically pleasing or durable so we left well enough alone.
Man, that’s sweet! Without redesigning my backyard, I just don’t have a spot for a full-on simulator setup, so I have to set up my Spornia net every time I want to hit. Not horrible, but kind of a pain. I plan on installing artificial turf this year and may be able to find a permanent spot for the net, along with a putting green, but not anything as nice as what you have. I sold my launcher monitor/sim because it just added to the setup. I bought a Swing Caddie device that has a display so I can just set it down without connecting it to anything, but I only get distance, not trajectory.
But having the pool to dive into while practicing is lovely!
