I bought a house 13 years ago that came with a pool. I am replacing my pool heater but have concerns about the existing gas line. The gas pipe is buried from the meter to the pad 16 feet away. After disconnecting the gas from the heater, I noticed the gas line moves very freely back and forth. Is this normal? I've heard of flexible connectors, but this seems excessive.

It is best to have a qualified plumber look at the gas line and gas connections. I assume you are referring to the elbow fitting that turns the pipe vertical which appears to move back and forth. A picture will help define the issue better.
